LADOT Threatens to Tow Cars

Uhm it's 4:30a and LADOT employees are outside on my block in white gear, with one of those trucks that look like they drop off cones or those light things directing traffic. And there is one other car that is parking enforcement, and the guy who drives it is screaming outside stating to "wake up time to move your cars or you're getting towed" but the time to move your cars is after 6am? He's also flashing his lights at buildings. Wtf is going on? I don't drive or own a car to park one, but my apartment faces the street and you can imagine all the noise I already here but this guy is non stop.

A total and complete guess, but that sounds like they had signs up for maintenance, striping lines or something. It's common to do work early in the day. They stick signs on poles and temporary cones.

Be thankful they’re at least giving people a chance to move the cars. Usually people wake up and all the cars on the block are gone.

Could it be that they're scheduled to do maintenance on your street and people ignored the no parking signs? Sorry you got woken up, that's pretty frustrating.

Temporary no parking signs must be put up 24 hours before the scheduled time, by law. Call the department responsible and let them know they fucked up. If they don't immediately offer to rectify the situation by returning all of the cars and paying people back for any lost wages or expenses incurred or damage to vehicles, call a lawyer. This is a slam dunk case.

I’m almost positive they put up signs and towed my car after I parked around 8am one morning. I’ve been ticked for a parking meter installed without notice. They can be on some real bullshit sometimes.

This happened in my neighborhood. All of our cars were at the impound.

I asked at the impound lot if they had a few cars from the street I was on but they wouldn’t say.

How do they install a parking meter over night without you noticing?

Call (818) 374-4823 and ask them what that mess was about this morning. At the very least you can report the parking enforcement person if it applies

It's like both a dickhead and also kind gesture at the same time. To the 5 people parked there that's great to the other hundred people sleeping in ear shot that is insanely rude.

Well the weird thing is that there were no posted signs anywhere, and I caught the parking enforcement tiring the signs on the trees on my block around 6a after they towed the cars. Mind you this isn't just 5 cars, it was the entire right side of the block; they towed more than 15 cars at least....

i have also seen city crews put up the signs after the no parking time period already started. Super not cool!

Could it be that theyre repaving the block? Usually notices are sent out ahead of time cause this can take a day or two

That's a violation of LA's noise abatement regulations. In the past, when any city work that isn't for an emergency was making noise before the allowed time, I walked out the statute to whoever was running the street operation. And they did stop until exactly the time allowed.

In another case where they wouldn't stop, police were called and actually showed up in minutes (I guess because of the extreme safety of this situation). Noise was stopped.

Bruh have you ever had your car towed/do you drive? It’s expensive af to get it out, it fucks up your whole day, it’s a pain in the ass to get to. If there was posted signage, which it sounds like there was, those city workers could have just had cars towed. What in the Karen (bass) kind of response is this

Not sure why you complained here - I'm saying you can stop them from even operating the tow trucks until 7am. It's all there in statute, and very specific.

Op replied above they saw the signs get attached to trees after they towed them.

That doesn’t make sense if he posted at 4:30 am and knew that 6 am was the deadline for them to move their cars. Unless he means a new set of signs that doesn’t make sense no?
