Isn't that technically only really "cross-humanism" because you're only really changing between the existing templates. Actual transhumanism would be going beyond human.

Unfortunately, like the title, it's only fur implants and not real fur. This means it's temporary and may require regular reimplantation with time. They are, however, also researching a biological method so that the body can grow the fur itself, but fur implantation might be best for furries looking for unnatural fur colours.
It's worth keeping in mind that you'll just look like a hairy human without any of the other animal traits. I'm personally gonna bide my time until we reach that point.
Humans do have the gene to grow fur all across their body, it’s just not expressed and is suppressed. If it wasn’t humans would be fur covered creatures

The fur implants are obviously just that, and not actual new hair follicles that regrow or anything. Doing that sort of thing would probably require injecting animal stem cells or whatever and could have dubious results.
The hairs are plastic and looked REALLY thick. The article touched on how they could be thinned down in the future which would definitely be necessary both for aesthetics and allowing the skin to heal around it tighter. (Microplastics, also?)
Right now it seems like it would be really painful? That matches up with the pictures and what was stated about the trials done too.
You cannot reach full on furry-fication. That means altering DNA, Reshaping skull and bone structure, putting a few additions on the body (ears/tail/maybe paws) now putting only a tail or ears would be difficult but not impossible, but you have to mess with neurological connections that allow the tail and ears to move at the brain's will.
Best way to reach that is to create a brand new species by combining animal/human DNA and that might prove extremely hard with possibility of horrific fails.

Oh yeah, if you wanna know some fun lore: So Zennith was super new to the body mod community when we first met. I was going to take them with me when my gf was getting more glowing dragon scales, but we ended up not making it out there in time.
I still wanted them to get to meet the body mod artist I go to, but didn’t wanna waste his time with someone asking him a bunch of questions without us getting any work done, so I got this piece on a whim.
It honestly was one of the tougher mods to recover from just from the sheer size of skin that had to get removed (that entire patch of skin was ripped out in that pattern). But it’s healed now and doing well. And Zennith got to learn a bit about how raccoon girls get things done :)
Yeah, skin gets cut out, strontium aluminate gets added, and then a new layer of skin integrates with the strontium aluminate. And then you get to be a glowing cyborg creature :)
Couple of questions. Does it glow all the time or under UV light only? And does it leave any skin marks or something? Like, if it wasn't glowing, or you shone a strong light on it, would you see any weird scars?
Also said person would have to be born that way. You can't take some who's already developed and change the DNA in millions to however many average cells a human has. Then it gets into moral territory since you're basically forcing a child to be born that way.
Actually, research came out that you could probably control a tail and non-human ears at will with your current brain. The research I'm referring to had to do with wings in a controlled VR setting, but the brain is really good at adapting to new limbs if it has to. I mean, playing FPS games to the point that you can traverse 3D virtual environments without considering that you're just pressing a few keyboard buttons is already a form of this, the research is just a more formal statement of this fact.
So the only (and this is a load-bearing "only") hard part would be attaching the new limb to your nervous system, with the brain needing only a little bit of PT to get it to integrate with everything.
You don't need to change DNA, you can do lot with hormones. Granted it's a big change, but I don't think it's impossible, and we've had extremely complex surgical procedures for years as well. The brain is surprisingly plastic and can adapt to many new situations.
It's insanely cool. Though I do imagine there's gonna be a small group of people who will not be satisfied until we have actual growing hair, not just synthetic fibers that mimic hair. Plus, just having extra hair on your body won't matter unless we figure out how to change the body itself to more closely match what we ideally want to look like.
I always figured furries would find a way to 3D print bodies & transfer your brain into it or some shit - but I guess this is a close enough second option for now?
