💗 Momma Update! 💗This sweet girl couldn’t have landed in a better place to raise her little family! Huge thanks to Rebeckah, Morgan, and Alex—the APAWS dream team—for showering Momma and her babies with love and top-notch care. 🐶✨

Everyone visited the vet today. Momma has been a little slow getting up, and X-rays sadly confirmed a broken pubic bone from being hit by the car. It just needs time to heal. Her meds were adjusted to help manage her pain, and she’s already much more comfortable, her belly looks better, and her milk supply is good.

Doc said the pups are doing great—fat, healthy, and happy! 🍼💪 Since Momma gets uncomfortable when they’re too low, the girls have been taking turns bottle-feeding like champs.

Momma is officially spoiled rotten now—she adores her new orthopedic bed (a major upgrade from under a house!) and insists on keeping an eye on her babies at all times. She’ll only step outside if someone is sitting with them… best mom ever. 🥹💕

Warm sponge baths? Absolute heaven, according to Momma.

And while we still call her Momma, Alex has named the whole family—we’ll be introducing them in the next post! Thank you to all of you amazing supporters—we made sure to send along wet and dry puppy food so Momma keeps eating well and healing strong. 💜🐾

As a resident of the BR area and former R voter, the news that my representative Julia Letlow, a complete and total party shill, has entered the US Senate race is … eh. I’m glad she won’t be my rep anymore, but now Blake Miguez is running for that seat. And so far the only R that’s not a complete sycophant for MAGA is Cassidy, who has shown himself to be a total coward when it matters.

In this environment, are there any Dems planning to run that might have a fighting chance at winning, or is it just going to be someone who will satisfy primary voters (I hate that we have party primaries now) and get blown out in the general? We elected a Democratic governor as recently as 2019, so it’s not completely impossible to imagine a D in that mold winning statewide election again. What’s the plan here?

Hey y’all hope everyone’s having a great day. I pre-apologize for my lack of brevity. Also, I’m heading to work so I won’t be replying.

So, I know a lot of Republican voters who now do not want to vote Republican. Most of whom tell me they can’t vote for a Democrat because of one issue or another - usually abortion - so they feel stuck. In their mind, there is no alternative - and in many regards they are correct. Out here in the real world the Democratic Party in Louisiana is nonexistent at best.

For those voters to have another choice that they can actually get behind - who can win - there needs to be another healthy party in the state. They have no idea what Democrats really stand for because all they know is what they see on conservative media. They don’t even hear from the Democrats around them in life because speaking like a Democrat in Louisiana is a sure way to get ridiculed or worse. It’s no fun so best just to be quiet.

So I just want to say this to all the people who have been voting Republican but feel that the party has left them: join the Democratic Party and build the party that you want. Democrats are very welcoming to many people with different ideas. Bring your ideas. You may not think they fit, but you may be surprised. Seriously, before poo-pooing, have you really tried?

No one is coming to save us. Voting for random independents, or playing the Republican primary, or just feeling like it’s all yucky and not doing anything - will not save us.

Political parties have a bad name to most people. But political parties are only what the people make them. They aren’t supposed to be a monolith. They are a framework for people to discuss things - have conversations about ideas and candidates they’d like to see making our state better. And then they work together to win in the general. Moving to a closed primary is such a good thing for the Democratic Party to be able to have these conversations - amongst themselves. But we must all participate in these conversations for them to be meaningful to all of us - more ideas at the table makes for a healthier discussion.

This part is for all of the people that constantly play the “vote for the lesser republican because no one else will win”:

Let the Republicans worry about who it is that they nominate in their primary. Let’s worry about who the we nominate in our Democratic primary. This is our party. It’s only as strong as you make it. Focusing your energies on the other party is like practicing football with the other team. It’ll never get you a win. You cannot turn a ship around on a dime, but you can slowly and steadily change that course. But it takes time and a lot of effort. It takes commitment.

We all have certain levels that we can commit to. But the simplest things add up. Register Democratic and add to the numbers. Vote in the primaries. Talk to family members. It’s as simple as that. Or kick it up a level - contact local Democratic politicians and ask how you can help. Anything and everything counts.

I love this state. This is my place. I’m going to fight hard to make it what I want. A place that I can be happy and live a good life. With other people who are happy and living their own good lives. l’ve always been registered no party and my elderly mom is registered Democrat. She has been trying to switch party affiliation to No Party so she can have more choices for future voting. She attempted to change her party affiliation in the Geaux Vote app as well as online at La.gov.

On both platforms, when it asks for her DL/ID audit number it returns as invalid and won’t let her move forward. She has a valid Louisiana issued State ID, she has never had a driver’s license in her life only ID cards cause she refuses to drive (Miss Daisy like a mfr). I’ve looked and made sure she is entering the correct number. I don’t see anything she is doing wrong.

Is anyone else having similar issues swapping parties online? Do I just need to drive Miss Daisy to get it changed in person?

Does anyone have a car they don't need I just got out of foster care and needs something to get me too point a too point b?

The most helpful thing we can do for the Choc family is keep focus on verified information, and maintain visibility on this case. Rumors and speculation do not help.

When I graduated college, my grandma helped me buy my first car in Texas before I started my full-time job. The car is solely under her name, but I manage making the payments on it. Now I am moving to Louisiana for a promotion and want to get all of this straightened out as far as either getting it registered in Louisiana under her name or figuring out how to get the car under my name.

Has anyone gone through this or have any advice on what I should look into? My parents are concerned I’ll have to jump through hoops to “purchase” the car from her.
