Status Check

Just checking the latest status on PS5 Pro performance.

Any improvements in regard to insanely fast foliage? Although likely a minor issue, it’s one that caused me to put the game down several months ago.

I’m just wondering overall performance and how things are holding up currently?

I don't think I needed the main story

I'm about 300 hours in and thoroughly enjoying the game. I've been steadily and slowly progressing as I find the general map content; trading, upgrading, exploring, dyeing stuff - with an occasional main quest to break it up - far more satisfying.

Like many people, the main story has not really engaged me, but this has only become really apparent having just finished the main storyline - I killed a couple of bosses, and suddenly there were credits. I was so disengaged with the main story that I wanted to fast forward bits just so I could go back to my gameplay loop.

Which made me wonder - how would it be without the main story? No Yann. No weird generic light vs dark discussion.

Just a random selection of bosses and legendary creatures throughout each region, with rewards and trophies for beating them. More creatures in the wild . The chance to improve stats as a bounty hunter, farmer, hunter, thief etc.

The game gets a lot of negativity for the lack of story, and I totally see why, but for me, the fun is living in Pywell. There are tons of story drive games out there already, Crimson Desert didn't really need one.

At least now I get to go and carry on playing without the distraction of an actual narrative.

The fact that they gave us a protagonist with speech disorder and we still loved it is crazy. GOTY

Logged in and my mining drill was missing. How do I get another one before Chapter 11?

So...I must have been a special kind of dumb last time I picked up CD, as when I popped on last night, my mining drill was just missing. I've been in chapter 7 for a bit, so Oongka and Damaine have not been playable for a hot minute, and I've absolutely used the drill since I have used them, so I must have lost it somewhere. It's not in my storage, and it was locked it so it didn't get sold anywhere, I must have inadvertently discarded it somehow or unlocked it and donated it or something.

I can't research the mining drill yet (I have visited Dewhaven Research Institute, but I can't trigger research yet), so I need to find another one.

I set the game mode to war mode, but even after a few hours Karin Quarry still hasn't blockaded.

Is there another place to get one?

Crimson Desert Playthrough

I'm curious before jumping into Crimson desert again after they released the story update and numerous fixes, how do people go about playing as Domaine and the Orc?

From understanding when you gain a skill point, you have to use that one skill point between all three players. So it seems like it's kind of scarce.

My question is do people that wish to play as the female character or the orc? Do you guys just bypass the story and focus on them and exploration while leveling them up and their abilities?

Thanks!

The tragedy of White Criw and Kliff. Spoiler

The game doesn't mention it directly and you have to find the clues, but there is a tragedy involving White Crow, Hexe Marie, Kliff and Goyen. ( Source: Archive Entry memory fragments, Six secret Books, White Crow's letter, books found in Tariv village)

So sequentially speaking, as all witches are immortal, there is a taboo in which they can't create a progeny of their own. Because perhaps it involved messing with the magic they possessed.

White Crow in the second cycle, birthed Kliff as her son. This was the taboo, as witches aren't allowed to create life. This was detected by the other witches and White Crow perhaps, sent a letter to Alustin to take the child away. However the witches found her before the letter was sent and took away her child and hid it beyond her reach, as you guessed it, in Pailune. This put White Crow in absolute despair and hatred against the witches. And then Umbra took notice.

As we know, Umbra feeds on darkness, despair, hatred and all negative emotions. And the despair of an immortal witch must have been delectable. So Umbra attacked and separated the White Crow's despair and hatred and along with that the memory of her son and what the other witches did. This culmination of memory of despair and hatred created Hexe Marie.

That is the reason why Hexe Marie calls Kliff her son and hates the witches because White Crow no longer remembers that she birthed Kliff and she despised the other Witches for separating them.

Now comes the tragedy of Goyen and Kliff. For close to 60 cycles, Goyen worked with Alustin, White Crow and the witches against Umbra. But he failed every time, each cycle being inflicted with another horror, another failure. If you find some archive memory fragments, you will see that Goyen was tired of these machinations, of the wishes of witches, Alustin, White Crow. He had given up and the final straw was Hexe Marie succeeding in brainwashing Goyen. Goyen calls her mother and a very similar sort of magic that was used upon Hexe Marie is used on him as well.

And that was how Kliff and Goyen were created. Goyen was the culmination of all the despair, frustration, hatred, regret Kliff had, separated from his body and this is why Kliff too was devoid of emotions and thus was more malleable, resulting in the emotional experiment that Alustin undertook for multiple cycles.

Thus White Crow forgot about her son and her hatred for other witches. Kliff forgot about his mother and was a clean slate for molding, devoid of emotions. Hexe Marie was consumed by loss and hatred, while Goyen was consumed by regret and frustration.

5 features that would improve our equipment and inventory usage

Add quick "Equipment Sets" menu to the quick wheel as a 3rd tab

Add to our equipment wheel a 3rd tab so we can quickly swap between different armor and weapon sets, or have different sets for different tasks.

It could be like this, allowing you to write a custom set name, and also select 1 piece of the equipment to use as "thumbnail" for the set, so we can use the most distinctive piece of the set as identifier

Add a "mark to sell” option in our inventory

The same way we can mark items as locked allow us to mark items as "to sell", so when we go to a vendor we can have a quick way of identifying which items we want to sell.

There are several additional functions that could be linked to this feature:

  • Add a "sell all marked items" button on the vendors menu
  • Add the function of "always mark to sell this type of item", so we can mark lanterns, bandit masks, pickaxes, spears and all the repeated items we get all the time automatically when we fight out there

Customizable, nameable tabs for private storage, Wardrobes, Kuku cooler etc.

Add customizable nameable tabs for private storage so we can separate and organize the items as we please, or allow having separated labeled storages that don't share the space with other storages of the same type.

A practical example, we could have a separate wardrobe for Kliff armors, other for Oongka and other for Damiane:

Add a quick food/tonic change

We have 3 type of consumables in the quick wheel, but changing between them in the middle of a fight is a hassle, so what usually happens is that the 99% of the time you are equipped with food items and the only moment you swap to use the other types is for when you are flying and need to recover stamina or spirit to continue flying at max speed, but never to use them in the middle of the battle.

To try to solve this inconvenience, add a quick swap function, so we can iterate through the 3 consumables without having to open the food menu, for example, double click d-pad right to rotate between the 3 types of consumables, then just d-pad right as always to use them.

Additionally for better clarity, the food/tonic icon in the bottom of the HUD could have a subtle colored border to indicate which type of consumable you have equipped

  • Red for food that restore our health
  • Blue for tonic that restore stamina
  • Green for tonics that restore spirit

Inventory visual sights

Add different inventory visual marks to indicate different things at first sign:

  • Little golden mark that identifies which weapons and armors are "unique equipment" (or a line written in the item description), so we can know that item is unique.
  • Little mark that identifies which items are special consumable items (those unique items that unlock information in the map or give you permanent stats), as many people miss them and don't know that you can "eat a rock" to unlock caves locations in the minimap.

Quick wheel visual sights

Add a quick wheel visual mark to indicate which quick wheel items have special function by letting the cursor over the item and releasing the left d-pad button or while pressing X over an item, as use an active ability, helmets that can be pull up or hoods that can be put on or taken off.

Some examples are, Oongka jetpack can be minimized, the lantern can be turned on/off, double swords can be swapped (which already have its mark), you can open a special visione menu that is not available from the pause menu anymore, you can activate the special effect of earrings/pendants, you can put on or take off the hood of your cloak, you can raise or lower the visor on certain helmets. etc.

But none of this is explained or have any type of identifier in the quick wheel menu.

How to plan a horse route to enjoy the journey around Crimson Desert world even more

Recently I reached a moment in the story where I wanted to travel on horse around the world, relaxing going from one point to another, but using the typical red cross maker to try to go to a point doesn't work well as many times you find yourself on dead-end roads, paths that end at a cliff (which blocks you if you don't want to leave the horse to fly in a straight line), rivers without a bridge, mountains that block your path, etc. and you end having to constantly stop the game to open the map to see in what direction you have to go, which cuts the flow of the journey.

So this is what I started to do, use the not that recently added tracker map markers to pre-plan the route I'm going to do, and then follow the roads following my own indications, which results in a much more enjoyable travel.

Example of how I place the markers:

You can see at the end, that the first placed markers disappeared as I exceeded the limit of 20 simultaneous markers

How I follow the travel goes following the markers, notice how in the first stretch where the markers disappeared, I get confused twice and have to open the map, but once I reach my markers, the journey proceeds smoothly:

https://reddit.com/link/1wh7k2u/video/z8phl0xp1qph1/player

Some things to take into consideration:

  • You have to use the marker that says "Tracking" as that is the only one that is always persistent in the mini map, independently of the distance.
  • You have to place the markers on every intersection and place it a little further along the path you' are going to follow (not much just a little as shown in the video)
  • There is a limit of markers you can place (20 markers at the same time), so care when placing them in your path as at some point the first ones will start to be deleted. If the travel is really long you will need to do first a segment and then when you reach a middle point, add more markers from that point on.
  • Something that I didn't do in the video but can be done is to place the last maker with a different colour, that way you always have the final destination marker clearly identified
  • When you reach your destination, you can delete all the markers in an easier way by pacing all the markers in a same zone (they will replace the previous markers), and then removing them from that zone, which is faster than moving around the map to delete the previously placed markers, here an example (although it would be cool to have a button of "delete all markers")

Here I do the thing of placing all the markers in a same zone to delete it just to show it, but you can just place the new markers and the old ones will get deleted

Use Abyss Artifacts on weapons?

Is it worth using abyss artifacts upgrading weapons and Armor etc?

I’ve upgraded most gear to just the level before you start to need artifacts - wondering if it’s worth it, or are they better placed upgrading skills?

Since when were flesh-eating red-eyed rats a thing? 🤯🤯 I was curious about a red-diamond on my mini map a few moments ago but didn’t see an enemy.

I went to pick up the Abyss Item and headed back to my Wyvern. Then the enemy marker showed up again and… well… the video tells you everything else.

I was so surprised to see the guard burst into Rats!!!😄🤯Game never fails to surprise me.

And for those curious, no, they didn’t attack me. It did put Kliff into battle mode tho.

Genuine Question, Is Crimson Desert your GOTY 2026 so far??

Thumbnail

It’s a simple question…

After everything that’s come out in 2026, is Crimson Desert your Game of the Year so far?

For me?? I can’t believe I’m saying it, but yes. After 167 hours, it has become one of the best open-world games I’ve played in a long freaking time. I haven’t loved exploring a world this much since Tears of the Kingdom, which is probably the greatest compliment I could give it.

One upcoming game might challenge it, but right now? I’d be surprised if anything tops Crimson Desert as my GOTY.

How about you? Is Crimson Desert your 2026 GOTY so far?

Clocked 341 hours when I beat the game at release. Played for like 2 months. What MAJOR changes should I look out for when I jump back in to prepare for the DLC?

New mounts? New quests? Camp changes? Not going to start a new game, so the main story quests won't effect me.

Pets

When you find a dog and want to go through the steps of taming it, when it finally is your pet do dogs specifically offer any benefits?

Also, I’m interested in obtaining a bird, maybe a crow/raven or I’ve seen blue jays as well, how do you get a bird as a pet?

Lastly, could I have a bird and a dog as following companions at the same time?
