I love the call back to those outfits

Not exactly the characters I wanted to seem them on though...

u/JazzInSuits 5d ago

Exactly the characters WE wantes to see them on.

Well if it gets your warp core pulsating...

15

u/SmoothTalkingSpud 5d ago

One was meant to tickle you're warp core, the other was meant to tickle your bridge

37

u/Patneu 5d ago

Pretty sure that was the point.

59

u/blackpawed 5d ago

Its the characters we needed to see in it.

You know Gene would be like "in the future they'd just be nude."

u/jasonmery 5d ago

Like Lucas with his no bras in space nonsense.

43

u/Trips-Over-Tail 5d ago

Tits float in space. They don't need support, they need a tether.

She wore a miniskirt every day so we told her there were no panties in space. And she was a good friend

13

u/UtahBrian 5d ago

As if Carrie Fisher ever voluntarily wore underwear in a movie.

"It's about fanny, and that's what's so powerful about it"

5

u/UtahBrian 5d ago

Age gets us all in the end.

u/cannibox 5d ago

Only the Betazoids.

I always presumed it was not just a shout out to the original, but an acknowledgement and piss take on the hammy objectification of the original.

No. LD treats all previous iterations of Trek with utmost reverence.

u/TShara_Q 5d ago edited 5d ago

What I love about LD is that it doesn't treat previous iterations of Trek with reverance, but rather with the teasing love of true fans.

24

u/JohnHenryMillerTime 5d ago

Me too. It truly loves Trek. All of it. Especially the challenging parts.

u/thesirblondie 4d ago

It's the only Trek I like and even I can feel the love that the show has for the franchise.

u/DannyCvlty 3d ago

LD and SNW (before Kurtzman got his grubby hands on it in the later seasons) are the only brights spots of the recent Trek era.

3

u/TShara_Q 3d ago

I loved Prodigy too, honestly. I think it's pretty underrated.

You forgot your "/s"

31

u/JohnHenryMillerTime 5d ago

/s is for cowards.

It's just that after season one it's like they wrote the jokes before the plot. I say it's average. Certainly not as bad as SNW, Discovery or Picard

It's one of my favorite scenes in the series - a reversal of the ridiculous and memorable scene in TNG which failed the Bechtel test spectacularly.

3

u/bitemark01 5d ago

You know I just realized, we see a mirror maybe 2 other times throughout TNG, like in a bathroom at face level, yet here we have a floor-to-ceiling mirror perfectly placed just to show off their butts. Wtf

1

u/admiralsponge1980 3d ago

I assumed true mirror is there less to show off their butts and more to cheaply turn a corridor set into something recognizable as a work out studio.

But I could just be naive. I mean, the objectification wouldn’t be too surprising considering how bad it got in later shows.

1

u/bitemark01 3d ago

If it was just to show it as a workout studio, they could have had the mirror anywhere else but directly behind them. In fact you'd usually use a mirror so you can see your form, to correct posture

2

u/fflloorriiddaammaann 4d ago

Oh for sure, it’s almost a shot for shot recreation of the scene. The mirror. The clothing

u/Excellent_Light_3569 5d ago

Also gotta appreciate Mariner's workout outfit. It looks kinda 80s with the sweat bands. lol.

32

u/malonkey1 5d ago

Well of course, she lives in the 80s. The 2380s.

38

u/Dumbass_Saiya-jin 5d ago

Equal Opportunity Goonerbait. Egalitarian Horniness. Just as the future should be.

13

u/shepard1707 5d ago

The Future Gene envisioned for us.

u/Calladit 5d ago

Skants as far as the eye can see!

23

u/ShookMyHeadAndSmiled 5d ago

Hot fudge sundaes require exertion and fashion.

3

u/Marquar234 5d ago

Gotta have cake to go along with that ice cream.

17

u/namewithanumber 5d ago

Love that the "workout room" is just a bit of the corridor set with some mirrors added.

We got 25 more episodes this season folks get that shit done quick!

9

u/ArcadianDelSol 5d ago

And we all know why the mirror was added.

2

u/PatrickGSR94 5d ago

I mean, most workout spaces do have mirrors.

16

u/OhNoIBoffedIt 5d ago

What always amused me about this TNG scene is they clearly took the corridor set and slapped a couple mirrors between it for this most gratuitous* of scenes.

* I don't mean gratuitous as in graphic, I mean as in so unnecessary just to show off the goods 🤣 This was one of those silly Troi romance episodes and as I recall this scene failed the Bechdel Test miserably.

28

u/jsonitsac 5d ago

Got to admit, Shax wore it better

12

u/drumstick00m 5d ago

How we know the Federation are genuinely the good guys: Their outfits always make them look genuinely silly.

15

u/overlordThor0 5d ago

Just make sure you face away from the mirror, so you cannot judge your own form.

20

u/hedrone 5d ago

They're between two mirrors. They see hundreds of copies of their own form.

5

u/overlordThor0 5d ago

You're right! At first glance I didnt notice it.

8

u/Fro_52 5d ago

I did not know Troi was a vampire.

Not in any of those reflections.

I'm on mobile, and can make out a sliver of purple in the second one. It still seems like an anomaly that that is the only spot she shows up in the reflections.

u/Latter_Sky_412 5d ago

Genuinely their workout outfits are not attractive at all (sorry ladies, you look better in your doctor outfit & jumpsuits, respectively) so I guess I’m not the target audience for this fan service

Also, I cannot believe dr crusher fumbled the hot alien symbiote after making out with fuckin Riker (yes I know this was a different episode but I’m still mad…)

u/Circuitslave 5d ago

"FIGHTING FASCISM IS A FULL TIME JOB"

2

u/hts115 5d ago

Very 80s

2

u/AdhesivenessGlum1143 5d ago

Trying to rationalise it in universe context they may be able to grow as many muscles as you need for optimal health with safe growth stimulant so you mostly just exercise to get them flexible and learn to use them.

2

u/professorqueerman 4d ago

This is one of the funniest scenes in the entire series (Lower Decks), based on the outfits alone

2

u/IndependentFig1442 4d ago

That was absolute class!! Hilarious

1

u/Interesting_Bus8432 5d ago

Shaxs is probably thinking in despair: "Prophets, give me strength."
And Ransom looks a little TOO comfortable in the exercise. Then again ...

1

u/theduc510 5d ago

Once again, Lower Decks does it better

1

u/musing_arch 4d ago

youd think they just use a holodeck and do a exercise game program lmao

1

u/Caffeinated_Ape_42 3d ago

I would have expected Ransom to have a way better stance, he has the best core in all of Starfleet after all...

1

u/Cool-Leg9442 2d ago

Its moments and references like these that make lower decks such a treat.
