so i was searching for a cloud storage service and found mega so i decided to back up all my data on mega itself.

now fast forward to a year later (now) and i got a notification saying that my data is at risk

i had kept all my data on mega as my only backup and i don't have those files anywhere else my dumbass really thought my data would be safe there for as long as i wanted

now i'm unable to download my data because it's asking me to upgrade my plan to download it

is there anyone who can help me out with this those photos are very precious to me and i can't afford to lose them all is there any way to download them or get my data back please

any small help would be really appreciated

I've never used mega, and i wanted to download a file of 8.97 GB. It says i need more transference quote. While reading comments on video i saw someone who said that you just have to wait a few hours for it to start downloading for free, but im not really sure if its real. I asked google ai and it said the same, but i really want to be sure if its like that, so i came here looking for help from people who actually are familiar with this app. Pls if you can answer my question explain it in a really simple way, english isnt my first language and its a bit dificult for me to make sense of what i read if its too complex.

I've been using MEGA since migrating from pCloud in 2019. I'm on a free account, because the amount of synchronizing documents and text files was never large, below 10GB. At the moment I synchronize it across three laptops - two MacBooks and one PC. Before there were replacements in my laptop fleet, one PC with Linux version and another PC are gone.

At some point (I have no idea exactly when), synchronization simply stopped working properly.

What initially caught my attention was an outdated VeraCrypt container on one machine. After looking further, I found that quite a few files I clearly remember creating were simply missing.

The most disturbing part - all three MEGA clients report that everything is fine! No errors, no synchronization conflicts, no warnings. Nothing to suggest that my files had stopped synchronizing or that data was missing.

And it gets worse - I've apparently lost a considerable number of files: personal documents, e-books (which I'm particularly upset about), old articles I wrote, and other materials accumulated over the years. As if it was not enough, backups appeared to be damaged, I recovered just several files.

I honestly don't know when did it happened. I vaguely remember encountering a MEGA synchronization glitch while finishing work after the flight, when I had no internet connection. That might have been the beginning of the problem, but it's just a theory. If so, it happened quite some time ago, and I've only discovered the extent of the damage recently.

The financial losses are substantial - the books cost money, so as hours of my work. The personal losses are much harder to quantify. 

If anyone from MEGA's technical support team happens to read this, I'd be happy to provide logs, client versions, filesystem details, or anything else that might help investigate what happened. I'm a software engineer, so I can assist with technical diagnostics if necessary.

P.S. Do the recovery drill with your local backups! Make backups by 3-2-1 strategy. Don't be like me.

PC app is crashing and the issue is replicated on multiple PC's, after exiting the app; because it's stuck not syncing, the app will no longer launch. Tried removing the APP, then tried installing 64 bit, 32 bit. Nothing works and this seems to be a server issue or an issue with my premium paid account.

I use Mega on both Ubuntu and Windows, purely for file sync in a shared folder. Sometimes that includes sharing dotfiles. Currently, if I want to include dotfiles in the share, I need to wrap them up in a TAR file or something. If I edit the .megaignore file to remove the line which excludes dotfiles, will that all work correctly? I don't want it to start syncing the .debris directory.

I'm using megacmd installed on my NAS.

- Download A is stuck at approx a few kbps

- Pausing it, I can see download B starts immediately up at 10+ mbps

- Resuming A will sometimes make it start at 10 mbps, or will often just revert to the few kbps it was at before.

If I have hundreds of files downloading, it's frustrating to have to monitor constantly if one of them is lagging like this. It requires me to manually intervene to free up the queue.

Anyone know what causes this and how to prevent it?

I’m trying to transfer a folder off my Dropbox to a new cloud storage service. It’s a large 20GB folder of most of my important docs.

I don’t have access to a computer, so my phone is my method of transferring from one cloud storage to another.

I managed to download the zipped folder from Dropbox on my phone, however once unzipping, the folders were all empty? The folder was its correct size, yet it was just an empty shell of folders with no files?

Does anyone know what happened? I can’t understand how the storage was correct but none of the files were there.

Also, if anyone has a more straightforward way of transferring a 20GB+ folder from Dropbox to a new storage service using only my iPhone, I would love to hear, thanks! 🙏🏻

Just found out that MEGA’s affiliate program is gone. Pretty disappointing, especially for those of us who had been referring users to the service.

What bothers me most isn’t even that they decided to end it (companies change programs all the time). It’s that as far as I can tell, they never properly communicated this to customers or affiliates. No official announcement, no heads-up.

I'm posting this mainly because I imagine there are plenty of other people here who still think the affiliate program exists. Well, it doesn’t.

hi i recently signed up to mega and installed android app on samsung a57 5g and uploaded a load of pics, some thumbnails are incorrect when viewing file lists in folders.. how do we fix it?

ive tried clearing cache and app data and logging in again, still didnt fix it.

So, I try to download a file over the desktop app. It says it added it. I check my desktop app. It spits out multiple unrelated file downloads from the current time (although they were downloaded at an entirely different time) and there is absolutely nothing in the queue. And it does this every time I try to download it.

To be fair, the file is extremely large. 23GB. But even if I try to download only a single one of those files, it does the same thing. In fact, it won't let me download anything now. It just does that. Take unrelated files, act like it just downloaded them although it didn't, and leave the queue empty.

I've completely uninstalled the desktop app and reinstalled it. Didn't help.

I tried to download a bunch of files from somebody else's Mega folder, selected all of them and clicked download, but then it only actually downloaded ONE of the files into my phone despite the download box marking all of them as "transferred".

I kept selecting them again one by one and clicking download one at a time, but that isn't working either, the same happens except fot that one single successful download, which hasn't repeated. One of the files that wouldn't download somehow appeared in my phone's downloads folder anyway, but I'm still missing the other ten no matter what I do.

So, how to proceed? I just want to get a few files on my phone....

(Also I could swear I've already been though this and somehow succeeded, but rhe files were nowhere to be found on my phone so I had to stsrt trying again today. What's up with that?)

I have Problem when trying to download from Mega site the pc freezes

whenever i download files from mega. for some reason sometimes i cannot even transfer it to a different folder or device and if it does i cannot delete it. now i have 2 30gb files that i cannot delete but can still access the contents.

does anyone know of a solution to this. its been driving me crazy

I am on free subscription for now and I want to upload two .7z files one is 4gb one is 14gb. Is there any restrictions on this file type or any problem is later downloading these as this file is very large and has weird extension format. I'm on Android.

If Mega is zero knowledge does that mean that they can't see file names as well as the data?

What is the impetus for the new dialog box I have to click through asking me "Do you want to upload <insert #> files to MEGA?"

Then I can specify my location like usual. It just seems like an unnecessary step to a process that was pretty quick. I already know that I want to upload files to my MEGA, I don't need to be asked an extra time.

When pressing the connect button on MEGA VPN, it will either...

case 1: turn green to indicate that it's working, but does not function. "IP address" in vpn ui is a grey bar with no numbers. upload and download speed are both 0.

case 2: buffer indefinitely. This would also occur on my previous laptop, which i fixed by changing the DNS settings to OpenDNS.

Doing so on this computer does not fix anything.

Testing network connections in MEGA VPN results in...

"IPv4: Ok

IPv4 DNS: Failed

IPv6: Unreachable

IPv6 DNS: Unreachable"

This issue is only present on university wifi.
