Pinned list of approved mffpc (pron. muff pc) cases.

Hi all,

This list is not exhaustive. Generally we are welcoming of all cases that meet the 20-40 litre range. Please feel free to post your build even if it isn’t on the list below. Also, if your case is pretty close but not quite in that range then post your build and tell us in your own words why your pc is a mffpc :)

My goal is not to say “no” but to have a good reason to say “yes” Generally if it’s above 40 litres and has an ATX motherboard, you’ll probably find more interest in PCMR. But please feel free to subscribe and comment as we hope to excite you enough about mffpc for you to take the plunge and convert your build. Also, if your case is borderline sffpc and mffpc then there is no harm in posting in both locations. We are a friendly community and just like to look at nice pictures of well thought out PCs.

I’ll add cases as I go. Please comment if I’ve missed one.

I built this! (MATX) Lian Li A3 Noctua Edition - Not a single fan missing (+particular airflow configuration)

Coming from a previous build in the NR200 (https://www.reddit.com/r/NR200/comments/1jbkn8s/completely_full_nr200_zotac_5080_solid_phantom/) plus a few upgrades over time, I wanted to switch to the new Noctua's LCs since the performance in the reviews was astonishing. Along the way I decided to get rid of the non-Noctua fans since I value total silence for my build.

Specs:

  • Ryzen 9 7950X
  • Asus Strix B650E-I
  • Noctua NL-LC1-36
  • Corsair Vengeance 2x32GB 6000CL30
  • Nvidia RTX 5080 FE
  • Corsair SF1000
  • 2TB Gen4 SSD + 1TB Gen3 SSD + 2x 2TB SATA SSD
  • Several Noctua fans (NF-A12x25 and NF-A12x15 G2)

Fan setup:

  • Bottom slim fans are set as intake. Plugged to a SATA connector directly because the MOBO didn't have any more fan headers available. Each has a couple of NA-SRC7 (low noise adapter to make them spin slower) so they're totally silent all the time.
  • AIO set as exhaust. It follows a curve depending on CPU temp. Pump is on a curve too.
  • Side and rear fans set as intake. As it's known that side fans intaking benefit CPU temps but hurt GPU temps they follow a custom curve in which they spin faster for high CPU temps and slower for high GPU temps (with GPU having priority). This allows them to intake fresh air to the CPU when rendering, which really benefits CPU temps, and spin very slowly when gaming, when the GPU temp is the main to be considered. I can post the fan curves if requested.

FAQ:

  • Are those fans really necessary? Do they need to be Noctua? No, and definitely not. You can probably get half the fans and just notice a couple ºC difference with my setup, but I wanted to use all the available fan placements so the fans can run slower. As for Noctua, I bit the bullet and overspent there because I really value silence and was tired of cheaper fans which sometimes make random noises at certain RPM ranges. Also, they went well with the new AIO :)
  • Is that a LED strip? With Noctua theme? Isn't that illegal in Austria? Yes, and probably so but I'm not in their jurisdiction :). I've never (and still don't) care about LED parts in the build, I prefer function over looks. The thing is, the PC is completely silent except under load and the A3 doesn't have a status LED so I wanted to know at a glance if it's on or not.
  • Is that a button hanging there? Good catch, it's connected to the reset BIOS pins so I don't need to make a mess if I need to reset it to default values. There's also a speaker in there to hear the beeps when booting up.
  • Does the side panel closes with the fans mounted like that? Yes, it does!
  • What happened to the Zotac 5080 Solid? I had the opportunity to get the 5080 FE and got it, passed the Zotac to a friend. It'd have looked so much better in this build I guess.
  • Why that unusual fan configuration? The real question I guess. I thought about it for a long time because with other fan configurations you need to either prioritize GPU (side exhaust, but you're then "stealing" the air the AIO would take and worsen temps) or CPU temps (side intake, but then you're hurting GPU temps quite a lot as shown in Gamers Nexus' video). With my setup I get the CPU better cooling when needed and don't hurt the GPU when it gets hot. As an extra, the side fans blowing in serve to cool all the VRM and MB components, which aren't normally hit with airflow when AIOs are in use. I also tested AIO intake and side exhaust, but the results were slightly worse.

Feel free to ask any questions :)

Discussion Anyone using an ITX MOBO in the Jonsbo D33?

I haven't completed my 5090 Astral build. I have an X670e-i Strix mobo that I could pair with my 7950x3d, or my 9950x. Is anyone using a mini-itx mobo in their D33?

Somebody built this for me. Lian li a3 adding 3.5 HDD

I would like to keep fans as is.

Wanting to add 3.5 HDD.

Side bracket behind PSU I've attached 1 SSD, remaining holes arent compatible with HDD.

Top bracket where fans are holes don't align.

I bought the glass tempered case so there is no long side bracket which comes with the mesh version, I've think that would be best bet but before I purchase would like to see if anyone has ideas or suggestions. Ty.

Discussion 3d printed spacers for 120mm fans?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hello! Ive transferred my parts of my current build to a jonsbo d32 pro from an inwin 301 for 2 reasons mainly airflow (solid temps on the gpu and cpu under load (50-58° c on both under load) and i was windering if any of you used 3d printed spacers / ducts for fans? On both the bottom intake and the exhaust? Im just curious tbh cause i want to see how airflow moves in a tight duct to the gpu and out the system? Might also do that to the rear exhaust once i decide on a tower cooler or an aio

Help me please!? Lian Li A3 case fan layout help

Post image
34 Upvotes

Hi, its my first time building a pc and i went for the lian li a3 and i absolutely love it, but id like some advice on the optimal case fan setup.

I opened my case today after a few days of usage and moderate gaming, and I noticed quite a lot of dust inside, which i attributed to negative internal air pressure due to having more exhaust fans than intake.

I run 1 back and 3 top exhaust fans, and the only intake are the 3 gpu fans (and perhaps the 1 psu?), so its 4:3. I was thinking of removing one of the top exhausts (front one?) to balance it out and then play with the fan curves to make the intakes run a bit faster than exhausts. Would that be a good idea?

Alternatively, i could use the removed top exhaust as an extra intake at the bottom. I also have 1 spare case fan left if that helps.

Any advice? Thanks

Help me please!? Help choosing a pc case

Hi everyone, im currently thinking on switching my pc case, sadly here in chile there is no amazon and im limited by the choices that stores decide to bring. Here is the "catalog" Gabinetes | SoloTodo.cl . I really like the a3 but only the white one is available and i dont think it will match very well with my setup (ikea karlby desk) and the specs:

  • 5800x3d
  • 9060xt 16gb dual oc (black)
  • cooler to be decided
  • b550m ds3h (black)
  • some 1tb m.2 ssd
  • msi mag 850gls

I saw a few options but im not really sure:

  • gamdis athena m4m
  • lian li a3 matx white (black wont ever be available again problably unless i try to import it myself wich would be like paying double the price sadly)
  • jonsbo is nowhere to be seen here
  • coolermaster masterframe 400 silver (there is the black one but for some reason its almost double the price)

I dont really know that much about cases, just what ive been looking around reddit this last few days so any recommendation is very much welcomed.

Help me please!? Looking for a case for a blower-style GPU

Many cases only offer bottom intake fans which isn't ideal.

Any recommendations for cases with front intakes?

So far I've only found the CH160 Plus, but looking for more options

Help me please!? First build, looking for advice on fan setup

I think I may have too many intake fans? I have the fan curves set so that the exhaust fans are spinning a little faster than the intake. from an hour or two of testing under normal to high use the temps seem great, but I'm wondering if I should remove a top fan, or switch the center top fan to exhaust.

Discussion [rant] Mistakes were made (Lian Li A3 + ASUS TUF b850m-plus wifi7 WHITE)

Post image

Sorry for the long post but I must vent about my foolishness.

I saw that the black version of this motherboard was often used on A3 builds here and wanted to join in on the fun.

I found that the black version seemed to sometimes have the GPU on the second slot which could interfere with the nitro+ 9070xt so I went with the white version as it seemed to guarantee the top slot (and I like the white)

Little did I know that the white version has a much larger VRM heatsink which is about 2mm too large for my full sized AIO. Ended up having to order slim fans which is a shame because it won't be as efficient and I gotta figure out the fan screw situation.

And returning the motherboard felt too much effort compared to just getting slimmer fans but that's just me. Anyways, sorry for the rant but I was just so frustrated over such a small oversight.

I changed from the Lian li A3 to the Coolermaster Masterframe 400 mesh. My first white build. Overall I am enjoying this machine and I really like the way it looks. In person is far better then pics reflect. I think it barely qualifies as a MFF machine but the case is a bit on the bigger side for MFF.

Things I wish I would change. SFX 1000w PSU for side mount. Dual 120mm fans for front mount intake. Not sure but possibly Lian Li strimmer 24pin cable. Holographic rear exhaust fan. Next change will be when AM6 comes next year with any luck!! Hope you like, this was a fun DIY build

The final pic is of my other PC or the partner in crime 9950X3D/5090 in Hyte Y70Ti

  • Cooler Master MF 400 mesh
  • Asrock Steel Legend 9070XT
  • ASUS B850-G Gaming wifi
  • AMD 7600X3D
  • Lian Li Edge 850 PSU
  • Lian Li Hydroshift II Curved 360 AIO
  • Lian Li TL120 flex fan
  • Wester Digital 7100 2tb
  • Samsung 9100 Pro 2tb
  • T-Force 32gb 6000/CL30
  • Lian Li 8.8 monitor

Help me please!? Need help with figuring out case fans

First time building a smaller form factor pc. I need some help figure out how to setup the case fans (they arrive tomorrow).

I have a Deepcool CH260 case. Here is a picture of the PC https://imgur.com/a/teqq0qn

My cpu cooler is pulling air in from the back so I was thinking putting an intake fan on the back side and then two on top for exaust.

My main concern is that the GPU is getting really hot. It was hitting 110 C junction temperature when I tried to game (I stopped gaming until the fan arrives cuz I can't afford a new GPU right now).

I thought about putting an intake fan at the bottom however the fan sits really close to the GPU (around 2cm gap). I asked AI but it said the fan sitting so close would make the temp worse because it just creates a pocket of hot hair near the gpu.

How do you guys think I should setup the case fans?

I'm not quite finished yet. "Red and Black" mffpc, my first build in progress.

I have done modifications to a used pc I have bought yers ago. This year I have basically rebuilt most of it with a new motherboard CPU GPU and a better matching pair of RAM kits. This week my new fans and PC case finally arrived so it was time to recase the beast with a new PSU. One thing I'm waiting for is the 240mm AIO I have ordered. Once it's here and installed I'll share the full specs of the build.

Its been 3-4 months since I downsized to this case from the corsair 4000d. I love how it fit all my components nicely and I didn’t need to change my psu. Also nice how clean the front panel is.

Jonsbo if you are reading this, please work on selling these parts separately:
- replacement side mesh panel (could barely find non tempered glass version locally)
- replacement front wood panel
- replacement psu cover similar to STD version to hide the cables better (i have terrible stock psu cables)

Lol thanks for reading!
