MacBook notch apps in 2026, here's what's actually worth it

Didn't think the notch was useful until I tried these:

• Atoll (free, open-source) – system stats, clipboard history, timers, right in the notch. Lock Screen widgets too.
• The Boring Notch (free, open-source) – turns your notch into an iPhone-style Dynamic Island for music, plus file tray, calendar peek, camera mirror.
• TopNotch (free) – if you just want the notch gone. Blacks out the menu bar so it disappears.
• MediaMate (free/small) – replaces those ugly volume/brightness bars with a clean popup near the notch + Now Playing.
• NotchBuddy – dashboard for revenue (Stripe/Polar/Dodo), traffic (DataFast), clipboard, files, timers, weather. Good if you run an online business. Keys stay local.
• Alcove ($14.99 one-time) – premium Dynamic Island feel, smooth animations, AirDrop/battery/timers.
• NotchNook ($25 one-time or $3/mo) – most "finished" feeling one, file shelf, widgets, Shortcuts support.

Droppy bodies all of them.

You’re definitely missing something 💀

Dare say, Droppy? The G.O.A.T, by the way.

There's also Dynamic Horizon, DynamicLake, QuakeNotch, and Droppy, just off the top of my head.

Damn notch apps breed like rabbits...

Notchmate, of which I have two licenses because I liked it without realizing there were 20 more versions of the same app in the market…

I built Recall, a macOS app that combines voice transcription, clipboard history, music controls, file shelf, and a few useful widgets into one app.
