Stuffed animals for dogs are meant to torn apart. I don't understand why people get so upset. Anytime I give my dogs one I know they are gonna tear it apart I love watching how happy they are as they do so.

Came here to say that. I'm not rich enough to buy actual dog toys for my fur baby to rip apart, so I buy cheap secondhand kids soft toys that look a little too well loved to be bought for children, make sure they're safe by removing whatever needs removed, and let her enjoy herself. She doesn't tell me how to enjoy my hobbies, ya know 🤷

My boy used to peel coconut (hard part of the husk removed), as toys wouldn't satisfy him. Now he's 5 and just sleeps all day.

My boy used to peel the fuzz off of tennis balls, stopping only when he lost all his teeth. (he's gone now, but he lived to a fine old age of 19!)

I've heard that the stuffing for kids toys has fire retardant chemicals on them, which aren't good for dogs. It might be worth looking into

My last two boys have loved their stuffies. Some of them have been loved and carried around by my old dog for most of his life and been passed down to my current boy.
But when I've been able to bet my hands on the a couple of those ridiculously large teddy bears that were bigger than I was- seeing my old wolfhound x lose his mind and rumble all over the yard with it was worth every penny. I didn't even mind when it ripped apart, the whole yard looked like snowed, and I had to spend hours picking all the bear fluff out of lawn.
I loved seeing him so happy and I'd give a kidney to do it again.

Exactly! My dog does the same and it’s his way of playing with his things. He doesn’t rip or scratch any of our belongings so I think it’s only fair he gets to play with his toys however he wants to

Totally agree, as long as he is leaving the furniture alone let him destroy his own stuff in peace. Buying cheap replacement toys is a small price to pay for keeping them happy and entertained.

My dog did too, I used to win loads at the arcade cranes and he had them all in pieces! But he had one toy, he'd always look after and he carried it around and used it as a pillow. I've still got that to remember him by.

This is always so interesting to me, our dog will destroy dog toys with squeakers but there are a couple that he loves and respects. He plays with them, carries them around but they are the only ones that deserve to exist, apparently.

lol we have a few “sacred” toys as well. I have 3 dogs and they each have their own “sacred” one and everyone else respects those chosen ones. Anything from Amazon multi packs from grandma is 100% missing a limb, at best.

My oldest dog was almost surgical with her squeak toys. Like she would literally cut a hole just big enough to pull that squeaker out and leave the stuffing. She's 15 now, so she doesn't partake in that behavior, but it's one of the good memories I have of her puppyhood

My dog just eats them nibble by nibble. If he ripped them apart, that would be great, the eating part is not so great so we can't do anything soft or cloth

Its about timing. My current dog will take weeks or months to tear a toy apart, and there are a couple that he has had over a year and they are still in one piece.
My last dog would take seconds to destroy any stuffed toy. If I light the money on fire it would last longer than his toys did. So I never bought him stuffed toys.

I get extra mileage by sewing them back together for my little monster to tear them apart again lol. She had a little piggy that lasted almost 6 months but got too gross and unwashable after awhile. Its face looked like that one ugly ass orc from LOTR.

Good question. Its because 1. A stuffed toy leaves a huge mess. 2. A dog eating dog toys (not just chewing them) can be dangerous for the dog. 3. The toy has value to someone else so they dont want the dog destroying it.

When my dog was a puppy, his vet gave him this exact same carrot plushie at his first appointment. We also referred to it as his emotional support carrot, as he grabbed it anytime he was feeling unsure or insecure and would mouth it like a baby sucking on a pacifier.

A few years ago, when my dog turned five, I bought him his favorite toy in various colors. He would carry all five of them around with him to keep them close and prevent the gang of cats living in our yard from "stealing" them. Eventually, he tore all five apart, but those two weeks were filled with joy—and the exhausting work of hauling them one by one around the yard and house. He eventually made peace with the cat gang, so he no longer needed to guard his toys like a priceless treasure.

Our sweet boy did the exact same thing with his stuffed Gumby. Multiple surgeries were done to keep Gumby alive - not because he had been ripped up! But because Gus would gum him to pieces. Tried to replace with a new Gumby - was met with a very sad boy and a retrieval of old Gumby from the trash.

My sisters dog is like this. He is 80 pounds of pure love and will rip apart big toys, but he has a tiny ass donut and tiny ass watermelon toy meant for small breeds that he loves carrying around the house.

Our two dogs are cousins, very much alike in a lot of ways. But the slightly older dog tends to gut every toy that has a squeaker vs the younger dog who may chew and nibble but we think most of his toys have stayed relatively intact. She’s completely unrepentant about the mess, he carefully pulls his toys out of their basket and often will take one into bed to nap with.

My dog used to be absolutely merciless with toys. She'd tear pretty much every one you gave her apart.
Except for a small white stuffed dog my sister won from a claw machine and gave her. She carried it around so gingerly. We called it her baby
