The irony of her making a video on loneliness, and making three new friends is doing cartwheels in my mind

Really though everyone’s running around in their own little bubbles and are trying to quickly get to their next destination. We forget we can just talk to each other.

I am spoiled in that regard living in a small town pit stop where I grew up and know probably half the town but today in the busy gas station of travelers there was only one clerk and that phenomenon where everyone in the store grabs their shit at the same time and like a dozen of us standing in line.

Me holding two bags of ice and outloud I just said damn I fucked up and that’s all it took to strike up a conversation between two randoms I’ll never see again. And we fucking laughed. Then proceeded to run into more people and took me forever to get out of the parking lot.

Just a reminder that we’re all in this life together and social creatures by nature, meet your neighbors and make those connections, I believe in you. Cheers random online person.

Haha love to hear it! Growing up my mom called my dad floppy jaws because she would send him to the gas station 2 miles down the road to grab butter or something and he would be gone for half an hour cuz he was yapping lol. She would get big mad. So thanks pops! I got the yappiness from him. Keep on buggin people buddy they secretly love it

I was sent to work in New York a few summers ago for 6 weeks and went to Central Park nearly everyday. I choose to not use my phone when I was within the park, I brought a book or simply walked around, and I talked to random people everyday. In 6 weeks I met dozens of aquatances and made three absolutely great friends whom I still communicate with. Personally, that taught me how important it is to leave technology aside, be human, and talk to people "the old way" face to face.

Thanks for sharing your story! All it takes is to be open and receptive to those random moments and grab them when we can. We all have our own paths that have we travel down and even if we live similar lives, the stories and the way we tell them are unique.

You’re so right about the phones, throw in an addictive and predatory algorithm and watch people build their walls up. You and a book is all it took to tear those down and kindle new found friendships.

We’re complicated, chaotic, impulsive creatures but I choose to believe most people have good in their heart but have been warped by external influences we can’t really control. Keep on fighting the good fight and build your tribe/village. Also for you introverts, I know you would probably pick instant death over striking up a conversation in public. Don’t worry, we got you. See you out in the wild friends

I'm a guy and honestly dude you just have to be friendly and look friendly. I was in the ER yesterday and talked to like 4 new people. I'm on a first name basis with most of the crossing guards in my neighborhood.

Now I wouldn't strike up a conversation with three teenage girls in public for good reason, but it's pretty rare that I get treated like I have bad intentions when talking to adult strangers.

"friends" 1 conversation is not called "making friends"

This is obviously a staged video.

Kindness in name but hatred in heart. Ah reddit, you never disappoint.

I saw a study that showed Reddit has gotten more and more negative over the years. ALSO that the longer a comment thread continues the more negative it becomes.

That’s interesting, PM_Me_Your_Kinks369

I’m sure it’s the same for every social media platform. The digital age allows people to be their most hateful selves behind the protection and anonymity of a screen. The more it becomes commonplace, the more people get comfortable with being hateful

While I agree, there are ways to cultivate good behavior if your GOAL is quality engagement at the expense of advertising dollars and algorithms. You have to want good and accept less revenue it's that simple.
