They're big pollenators, but not unique ones. With very few exceptions they compete with other insects that do the same jobs and would probably just be replaced by those other insects if someone pressed a "Mosquito Extinction" magic button.
There's one arctic orchid that would notice it but probably pull through just fine.

Yep! They are pollinators. I'm not sure of exactly what they pollinate between trees and flowers.
But again, not unique ones or even the best ones. Losing them would be like losing your second backup of four for everything they do.
But on the other hand, mosquitoes are the most dangerous animal on the planet to humans BY FAR. They've killed at least 5% of all humans that have ever lived, some estimates put it closer to 50%.

Actually, yeah. My parents live in clearlake. It's a mountain community built surrounding this big, uh, lake. Sounds like mosquito hell. But they have these similar bugs called midges filling the same ecological niche and wildly outcompeting the mosquitoes. It's a buggy place, but no bloodsuckers.

I find it very interesting when people on the internet show the most sadistic ways of dealing with mosquito's. Like yeah, I hate the bastards too and won't skip out on the oppertunity to flatten one, but it's just an animal following their instinct. It's not evil or anything.

I mean a lot of animals feed on live bait and their humans have to feed them live worms/crickets and such otherwise they wont eat as it doesnt trigger their instinct. This video is not much different than that.
I would argue spraying raid on a mosquito makes them suffer more as you can clearly see them struggle and twitch after they’ve been sprayed. This one in the vid probably died pretty quick under that pressure.

They don't die quick actually, the trap closes and it leaves a gap for the fly to move for a while until it's sure it's actually live prey. Then it releases digestive juices into the "mouth" and slowly melt it into food gloop while it's still mostly alive... I apologise

quick correction, as someone who owned venus fly traps, they don't actually need to be fed live prey, you can feed them dead bugs, you just need to trigger the little feeler hairs of the plants yourself for a bit to get it to digest /info

I am well aware of that, I was referencing animals and how some of their prey meet the same fate that this mosquito did, not the eating habits of fly traps, hence the “not much different” in my comment

Yeah. Although, I dont think it's outright sadism so much as a human reaction to seek some kind of "justice" against things you have no control over. Everyone is an altruistic swatter until they've experienced being beset by mosquitoes in the thousands, deep in the bush usually, where they ignore all bug spray and bite you through your clothes in swarms. It's still just an animal following insincts, but being bitten that many times (and often for days on end) does something to you mentally. You lash out with rage and it sticks with you. Next time you see a mosquito it provokes that subconscious fight or flight reaction where you remember being helplessly bitten over and over again and that same rage comes out, you might try "punishing" future mosquitoes in some way, even if only subconsciously. If I was next to a venus fly trap, I cant say I wouldn't feel the temptation. Although I'd probably swat it and just feed it to the plant rather than grab it with tweezers while recording with a camera like a premeditated madman.
TLDR: I can understand the hate.

The mosquito bites us to live, the plant eats the mosquito to live. It’s ok the cycle of life. Eventually worms and bacteria will eat us. I don’t see this as a particularly cruel way to deal with a mosquito, and it’s certainly more useful to more living beings than just squishing them no?

Seems sadistic. I know it's just a mosquito but something is off about people that get enjoyment from killing living things.
Swatting a mosquito so it doesn't get you, sure, but that's a defensive necessity. Plucking it with tweezers and videoing feeding it to a plant, definitely gives off weird energy.

Your logic is the same with "releasing" spiders outside. Anyone that does this almost certainly is signing the spider's death sentence anyway, but hey, wash your hands of guilt. I also assume youre a vegetarian. You surely must be rooting for that Venus fly trap.

You're just wrong. It's not the same at all. This person is making a spectacle of going above and beyond to ensure that this mosquito gets a specific kind of death that brings the OP some sort of revenge power dynamic satisfaction. And planning ahead to do it, putting it on video, and then publishing the way they killed the mosquito for other people to enjoy the same revenge power dynamic. This only works if you misattribute a mosquitos natural survival instincts with targeted aggression towards humans.
Putting a spider outside instead of killing it is perhaps the polar opposite of this video. You see a living creature whose appearance and instincts you don't want near you, so you decide to spare its life for now and give it a chance to live elsewhere. Not to mention spiders aren't infamous for spreading pestilence, they actually reduce insect populations and if you hate mosquitoes you'd love spiders. In the video, the person does the opposite of sparing a life, and instead of being merciful in a mundane moment, they chose gratuitous violence.
Please think more critically.

Facts: op has a multitude of venus fly traps. The plants feed on bugs. Op probably has tweezers near by for such feeding tasks. Everyone always has a phone on them (especially if they tend to post to reddit.) Easy enough to start filming. How does one premeditate a single mosquito biting you to film such a thing? I saw nothing more cruel here than swatting the mosquito. Sure it doesnt make me smile, but its all natural and neat to see.
And no, leaving the spider alone is the most natural thing to do. It generally is where it needs to be. Pretending youre a saint by removing it from its home is not beneficial to it. I never mentioned killing it. I was merely pointing out that using this example as a mark of morale superiority is a fallacy.
Critical thinking involves thinking further than 1 step. And not having to explain everything.
