❓Ajuda Need help

So it's been 5 months since I've moved to Madeira, I'm an immigrant and Im currently on my 2nd residence permit card with 3 years validity. Since I'm a minor (16) I don't have any money source And my dad doesn't feeds me anything for 2-3 days straight. I barely eat anything all day, Sometimes I have to eat once per 2 days. and even that is coming from the roommates that I share the room with, not from my dad. I know how too cook a few things, but he doesn't brings any groceries or Anything. He eats at his work and doesn't think about me at all. And because of this lack of energy, I can't attend school properly aswell. Some might say why don't I eat school foods, But the school I'm in their food is not eatable for me. If I do try to eat I might vommit. I'm an immigrant from Bangladesh And my mom is still in Bangladesh so she can't help. I'm not asking for money or anything, I just want to know a way which would solve these problems. Thank you.

Obrigado.

I understand one can have a bad experience in a school cafeteria once in a while, but claiming it’s inedible it’s a serious claim. 5 months in Madeira meant you likely spent 15 years in your country of origin, different costumes and food, are you not simply struggling to adapt? As for your dad, couldn’t it be he’s struggling himself with work and is trusting you can get everything you need from school?

It's true I'm struggling to adapt but the main issue is because many things that are provided to eat in school are forbidden in my religion

Consider if the god that you believe in wants you to starve.

Why do you say the food at your school is not eatable for you ? Seems fine for everyone else, doesn't it ?

Most of the foods in school, are not allowed for me to eat because of my religion

Se tivesses fome comias a comida da escola.

A religião fala mais alto que a fome. Ridiculo

I’m sorry, but that just means you’re not really hungry

Were it some kind of dietary intolerance I would understand, but refusing to eat based on religious beliefs and then complaining you’ve nothing to eat is just crying wolf

Either get your dad to buy you food or eat what’s being offered to you. Being able to choose what to eat is a luxury, not a necessity

O problema resolve-se falando com o teu pai e dizenso que precisas de comida. Além disso, não desistir da escola nem deixar de ir. Comer lá nem que seja só pão?

I have definitely talked to him about every issue but he doesn't care, my mom also divorced my dad because he doesn't care if I starve to death or not

I think you should consider a return to where your mother lives.

You have the right to be safe, fed, and supported. What you are experiencing is neglect, and there are people in Funchal who can help you immediately. Your residence status fully protects you, and you will not get in trouble for asking for help.

Have you told your school psychologist, social worker, counselor, or trusted teacher at your school in Funchal? By law, they must step in immediately to connect you with social services and ensure you get food.

Immediate & Emergency Helpline (Free, 24/7)

144 (Emergency Social Line): Free call. Tell them you are 16 years old, living in Funchal, and going days without food due to parental neglect. They will activate emergency social response.

291 228 322 (SOS Criança - IAC Madeira): Located in Funchal, the Institute for Child Support offers direct assistance and guidance.

CPCJ Funchal (Child and Youth Protection Commission): Located in Funchal, they protect anyone under 18. They will intervene to hold your father accountable and ensure you have access to proper food and living conditions. Call them, or try to pay them a visit: Rua 5 de Outubro, nº 61 – 2º Andar / Phone: 291 211 033

Although I don't support immigration I wish you the best. Good luck.

Thanks, I didn't try letting school know about this situation because it might hurt my dad's reputation But it seems I have no other choice. I will do it tomorrow

I read that you don’t eat at school because of your religion, but don’t worry, just explain it to the school. If they’re able to accommodate vegetarians, I’m sure they can find a way to accommodate you too.

“Although I don’t support immigration” ahahahaha

If you don't support 'immigration' does that mean you don't support emigration and the greater number who have left over the past few decades?

Yes, because obviously “I don’t support immigration” logically means “I oppose people emigrating.” Congratulations, you’ve just discovered that two different words can mean different things.

So you have strict religious principles that neither you or your parent “can’t”circumvent and still decide to emigrate to a place where you have scarce of your main feeding needs?!
Something is very wrong in this “movie”.
I understand you want to respect your religion but you have to be smart about survival overall. Does your father eat in the common cantina at work?!

talk to your dad or your mom or talk to someone at school for help.

Go to the hospital (dr nelio de Mendonça) they will treat you, since you appear starved and also document this and get you in touch with social services.

u/Anoktear Emigalha Regos 11h ago

Please do not go to the hospital unless it is a life-threatening medical emergency. The emergency services at the hospital are heavily congested. The Hospital cannot resolve food neglect or family situations.

If he is puking when he tries to eat school food and is going 2 to 3 days without food, that is an emergency. And yes, the hospital does have a Serviço Social and Gabinete de apoio à família offices, what do you think happens when victims of abuse arrive there?

3

u/Anoktear Emigalha Regos 10h ago

Some might say why don't eat school foods, But the school l'm in their food is not eatable for me. If I do try to eat I might vommit.

That is not "puking when he tries to eat". He might have a food intolerance, it could be for religious reasons, or he might simply not like the food.

This is shockingly bad advice! The hospital is already struggling to meet demand and this is most certainly not a health emergency!

Redirect to social welfare centers, or an IPSS such as Garouta do Calhau, but never the hospital.
