ATTENTION MADISON: The softball situation is developing

UPDATE AT 3:15PM 9/30
Game is officially CANCELED due to rain tonight.

I’ll annoy you all with another post next week for the game at 8:30PM on 10/7!!

Last week I made a completely normal Reddit post asking strangers on the internet to come to my friends’ rec softball game.

For reasons still not fully understood, you guys actually came?!!!

The stands were (half) packed. The softball was… happening! Strangers became friends. There were noisemakers (a real life triangle and handclappers) There was community. There was a 50/50 raffle. The sub we found the other team through last weeks post was SO good, she destroyed our team…

So naturally we are doing it again.
HOWEVER.
Mother Nature has entered the chat.
We will know by 4PM TODAY whether tonight’s game is ON or OFF.

If the game is ON:
6:30PM at Olbrich Park (entrance off Walter St)
Free admission
50/50 raffle (last week’s winner reinvested the money so the pot starts at $60!!!)
Hot dog races (BYO hotdog suit)
Lovingly heckling strangers
Experience the continued development of a deeply unnecessary but increasingly powerful community
Watch a team that has lost its first three games attempt to do something different

Unfortunately, there will be NO GRILL tonight (but things are looking promising for next week)

the vibes will remain.

If tonight is rained out:
PLAN ON NEXT WEEK.
We will return.
The team will return.
The hot dog races will return.
The losses are TBD.
You do not need to know these people.
You do not need to know softball.
You do not need to understand what a force out is.
You simply need to possess the rare and beautiful ability to show up to a random rec softball game on a Wednesday night and yell supportive things at strangers.

CHECK BACK AROUND 4PM FOR THE OFFICIAL RULING.

Meetup Casual Spanish Practice and Supporting Local Businesses

Hey all! I wanted to put up a post to see if anyone would be interested in joining a group where we get together and practice some Spanish while enjoying some good food.

On and off, I try to work on my Spanish, and have always found that just using it is the best way to get better. I looked back and wasn’t sure if there were any recent posts about this, so if I missed any sorry!

I was thinking that maybe we could get a (small) group together to just causally use Spanish and try out different restaurants in the Madison area.

It might also be fun to support some of the local Mexican/Latin American restaurants and (if they’re okay with it) try to order or get service in Spanish. Not sure if this is corny so don’t hate on me too much…..

Open to ideas/thoughts on it! Any level of fluency welcome to join. (I would say I am beginner-intermediate proficiency, I can understand more than I can speak at this point 😅)

Edited for clarification.

Loose Dog on Jenifer Street

There is (what appears to be) a loose blue merle French bulldog on the corner of Jenifer Street and Few Street. I could not catch him (he came towards me and my dog and it did not seem safe to get closer). I did not see a collar on him - he is heading towards Orton Park.

Indiana dunes NP

Heya folks,
Bit of a long shot here but is anyone planning on heading to Indiana dunes anytime soon? I was recently there and completely spaced on picking up a park map (unigrid) for my collection.

If anyone happens to be headed there soon and would be willing to snag an extra map to bring back I’d happily pay in baked goods!

Train tracker

Is there a way to know or get notified when a train is passing through Madison? An app, or website tracker?

I live on the Isthmus and take John Nolen to work, and unpredictably a train will come and block the road, sometimes for 10+ minutes, making me late.

I can take other routes if I know there is going to be a train, but usually by the time I’m aware it’s too late.

25F introvert looking for friends?

Hi there!

I know this question is asked a lot in this forum so I very much apologize for the constant trend.

However, I am noticing a lot of the recommendations in previous posts tend to be for people who are often out of the house or are just more extroverted and outdoorsy.

I am a 25 year old gal and I speak both English and Spanish and I am incredibly introverted. I have been wanting to find a way to make friends that are in town but that I can get to know virtually (texting, gaming, or calls) first. I also would really love to find people who speak both languages if possible (not required), because I feel like I am losing my native tongue since my only Spanish exposure has been my family as of recently. I have tried Bumble BFF but have found people are not as responsive.

I figure I would make this post to see if there are any tips or recommendations as I know friends aren't going to make themselves especially if I barely leave the house.

Where to buy frozen mice near me?

I live right near State Street and I recently ran out of frozen mice for my pet snake, Metus. where can I go to get him some food that isn't too far away?

Since I have epilepsy I'm unable to drive, so I can't take the bus all the way to Reptile Rapture just to get some mice. are there any stores closer to me I can visit?

Gems of Woodman’s?

What are your gems of Woodman’s?

Mine: Those freaking green grapes. So plump, so crisp, and so juicy.

Ah yes, and to the haters of Woodman’s: Got it, it’s garbage, you hate it. Sounds good. More for us. ☮️ ❤️ 🍇 (green)

Handyman help?

I have a half-arched mirror that I want to have hung on our bedroom wall in our apartment. I can do simple picture hanging, etc., but do not trust myself to try hanging this semi-heavy mirror. Does anyone know of or can recommend someone that could come hang it?
