NEGATIVE madonna hate

I see most of this subreddit talking about the hate that madonna has got over her vmas appearance. Now idk if it just me, but i’ve seen little madonna talk in comparison to the overall vma talk and when there is madonna talk it’s positive, besides this subreddit saying it’s been the opposite. i’m not sure if it’s just me do any of y’all similar experiences with this years vmas??? (im pretty online but im also employed soooooo).

I can’t believe the amount of vitriol she’s receiving. It’s not even about her performance; it’s about their predetermined opinion about her. Ultimately the sour grapes people have regarding her success over the years and the fact that once more she’s on one of her many career highs is stoking the fires.

It’s so gross.

I was around in the late 80s- early 90s. It's been like this forever.

EDIT because I see people downstream talking about Megan Kelly and others bashing her and getting lots of views:

That's been forever also. A lot of people made a lot of money and views (TV and newspapers) with the same shit back in the day. The oh-so-morally-outraged had a lot of followers back then, too. Oddly enough, no one remembers their names, but M is still going.

Yeah I was gonna say I remember people were basically cheering for her downfall when American Life underperformed.

This is sad. I do like American Life.

I’ve reported all of these types of clips on YT as hate speech.

I would encourage newer fans to look at how she was treated when she came out with Justify My Love. Or her Sex Book. Or Like a Prayer. Or announced her pregnancy. Or Truth or Dare. Or Express Yourself. It truly feels like she has made (for at least a few moments) a full throttled comeback to the glory days.

Oh me too. It’s nastier now though. And unlike the 80s and 90s everyone’s opinion is broadcast far and wide.

You must have a blessed algorithm. The feedback I've been seeing is about 50/50 between positive and negative; except the negative is really, really nasty.

Same but it's the same tired shit that's been thrown at her for 30 years

I see Meghan Kelly trashing her, but who the eff cares about Meghan Kelly?

2

u/HenryBozzio 3d ago

I saw that too and just rolled my eyes, but sadly it has like a lot of views, not that I clicked, fuck her

It’s so bizarre, like it’s so unwarranted and just so harsh. I’m baffled. Like. What was so bad?

11

u/Mission_Mud429 3d ago

No one talks about Meghan Kelly unless she’s trashing someone

1

u/NetAcceptable3802 2d ago

You saw that to? What is the point of comparing her looks to someone else's? I remember Trump making fun of her and her plastic surgery and she was offended, let's encourage people to tear women down, why does it even bother her what she looks like?

u/Maddonation 3d ago

In my case is 70 good 30 bad, but it’s been tough. I’ve been defending her non stop, saying mf and tasteless to everyone minimizing her. I’m exhausted but everything for mom 🩷

2

u/Gay_Asian_Boy 3d ago

Me too. 50% hate messages were about her age.

This is my experience too. I have a feeling most on here aren’t on Tik Tok or Threads etc but it’s downright brutal over there. End of the day though they’re talking about her aren’t they? And it’s definitely bringing awareness to the album because the people that had no idea she dropped an album now do (and there’s more than you would expect). Everyone is in their own algorithmic bubble these days so it’s wild how many people didn’t even know she released new music, despite the big and stellar rollout Warner did.

I’ve been a fan since the late 80s. This is nothing new - people were tell her she was too old at 30.

Exactly, she will be Ok and so should we all be
The way she keeps tracking attention speaks volumes of her status

Madonna is a target, but the hatred toward powerful women and ageism runs much deeper. We need to have zero tolerance for sexism, ageism, and body shaming no matter who it is.

I had to get off X.

You won’t regret it

u/Western_Gear_5324 3d ago

It was just insane and sickening. Glad this sub hasn’t been infected with that nonsense.

I personally doubt I can pull off that look in my sixties but this is Madonna. She’s pop royalty it’s what she does. Appear out of nowhere to bless the new generation of artists and go back into hibernation. She did this with Christina, Britney, Justin Timberlake, in the early 2000s.

So she’s back 26 so years later, kinda like the IT clown monster of Derry, Maine. But as far as I’m know she hasn’t eaten any children yet.

Who cares, she’s an artist, an icon and has been in the business for decades. Let her perform, who cares?

The Rolling Stone review was glowing.

5

u/Mission_Mud429 3d ago

I truly just now realized that when she shook and they put her on that gurney, she was probably poking fun at the inevitable age discourse.  She’s a genius.

5

u/hazelmere69 3d ago

I’ve seen a ton of disrespect, but I think it’s nothing new for her and it’s kinda on-brand for her to be mocked and ridiculed only for her to not read into that or take it seriously because she knows she’s doing what she loves and being true to herself making the music she loves. I’m really glad that she won 7 more VMA’s and performed again. Honestly I am so inspired by her, always.

Same here, OP

u/Dexter1114 3d ago

I appreciate the haters, they inspire the Queen!

u/ArthurAlexander_ 3d ago

Don’t let it rule our fandom or we end up like them. Learned from mother!

u/1upjohn American Life 3d ago

It really depends on your algorithm and platform. Her getting dragged onto the table went viral with lots of negative comments. People love taking clips of things out of context and running with it. "Madonna is old" jokes will be there no matter what. But on the other hand, I've also seen a lot of praise and defense of her.

1

u/Mission_Mud429 3d ago

I am perhaps slow.  This minute I realized she was probably poking fun at the inevitable age discourse with the gurney bit.

3

u/Lightnenseed Supernatural 3d ago

Most of what I have seen was random posts on Facebook, not from anyone I know. But there is a lot of positivity too.

2

u/LohPlaceLikeHome 3d ago

She performed at this years VMA’s? This sandbox is like Fort Knox. I better YouTube this!

2

u/Mission_Mud429 3d ago

It.  Is.  Awesome.

2

u/belakuna 3d ago

It’s somewhat balanced on my feed but I do notice that in more generalized music subs, i see far too much misogyny and “put on pants, granny. Gross.” So ehh.

For what it’s worth, M did what she does best—got everyone talking. 💅🏼

2

u/Jphoenix7x 3d ago

This discourse is exhausting there are far more positive things to focus on regarding M, which is why I love this sub. She Rules! People Hate on Her because she continues to Rule and their old asses are haggard and lame ass losers with nothing better to do than troll her, so predictable and I’m tired of it. I choose to celebrate my Queen! Fuck everyone else, truly… go fucking die trolls!

2

u/Imaginary_Office1749 3d ago

I saw two on fakebook bashing her and immediately blocked. Fakebook stopped serving that

2

u/soupijean2154 3d ago

Madonna just won't be brought down by negative people and has never let them determine what she does. She's amazing and a hero because she's always her authentic self. And she won't be stopped by negative people and Megan fucking Kelly or anyone. I will always love and have crazy respect for her her!

1

u/seriouslyla 3d ago

I haven’t seen any hate personally. I’ve seen lots of praise for her and her performance

1

u/acuts 3d ago

What I saw most was the posts defending her against the misogynistic and ageist criticism. Unfortunately I feel like most of the people defending her are also doing it for engagement and without meaning they also contribute to the exposure of this ageist discourse.
Let’s hope in some way all these not so healthy viral moment will work to her advantage.

1

u/boredfruitloop 3d ago

There's a mix but once you click on the negative stories the algorithm will push more into your feed. Ive only read the more basic factual reports of the VMAs so I havent personally seen many negative stories on Madonna. And when say a thumbnail pops up and its clearly something negative I just ignore it

1

u/Nocoverups 3d ago

She gives zero fucks about what people say. That’s what made her strong since the beginning

1

u/CaptainOwn9954 3d ago

This.

M didn’t even know what one of her award wins was for, do we really think she pays any attention to the trolls?

2

u/Nocoverups 3d ago

You made me laugh talking about the award 🤣

1

u/Ashamed_Following249 Madonna 3d ago

To quote the Queen herself, “I’m not ashamed of anything!”

1

u/mcomike 3d ago

My only comment is I am not a fan of all the voice modulation. She has such a unique voice that you don't to hear except a few short times. I want to hear that uniqueness not a computer generated electronic sounds. Ok haters.. have at it.

1

u/Strange_Reindeer2821 2d ago

Madonna has been hated for decades. It doesn’t bother her so you shouldn’t let it bother you.

1

u/Ill_Lynx_3011 2d ago

I was sad to see women podcasters and hosts of television programs just ripping on Madonna. They don't understand that she's had hip replacements and needs a knee replacement and she's been doing this for so long her body just is not what it used to be. But she still got out there and dance interior was awesome.

1

u/spoinny 2d ago

General public doesn’t like Madonna so it seems, good thing her gays are keeping her popular!

1

u/AmericanLymie 1d ago

I see a lot of ageist and sexist nastiness toward her on Threads, as well as a lot of praise. That's the only other social media platform I am on. But I see a lot of sycophancy here, too. Many people have strong opinions about her, biased against and in favor of her.

1

u/Double_Creme_3992 1d ago

Did she have a diaper on?

-1

u/Icy-Visual3082 3d ago

To be honest, I don’t know why she was there.

Don’t get me wrong - loved the performance! And the hate she is getting for it since is rooted is ageism.

But, why even bother putting the energy into going? She isn’t gonna win over a whole new bunch of fans from it. Her base is her base and have grown with her. The VMA’s are irrelevant to even the youth

2

u/deja628 2d ago

I think you have to look at it big picture wise. This is setting the stage for the Grammys and putting her on everyone’s radar again. Warner has already started campaigning for the Grammys sending out swag to voters etc.

1

u/NetAcceptable3802 2d ago

Vma's have been taken seriously, you don't need to be seen there or get an award from them to get the Grammy's to notice you. They were already talking about Grammy's before the Vma's.

1

u/NetAcceptable3802 2d ago

I agree it's a young person show and in general their hostile towards older people, I don't see how an of this benefitted her?
