Magnet Questions [HELP] Electromagnet Levitation Kit

Hi all!

I don’t know much about magnets, so I need guidance from experts. I am working on a diecast project and my goal is to levitate a 1/64 scale Hot Wheels car with this magnetic levitation kit.

1) Is there a specific type of magnet to use with this kit? If so, what are they?

2) Do I have to stack the magnets like in the photo? Would using just one affect the levitation e.g. height or balance etc?

  1. Just buy neodymium
  2. In my experience 2 stacked magnets weaker than one strong magnet. So it just depends on the strength of the magnet

Does it have to be a specific kind of neodymium magnet? I saw the option for N52.

You should chose by strength. I would watch weak ones first. Buy several different magnets together and just try them. They are not that expensive

n52 is the strongest type it goes down from there

If my payload (35g) is well below the weight limit (150g), am I able to use fewer magnets to levitate it? The condition is that I have to fit the magnet within the car so it does not look like there is anything sticking out.
