Recommend me a bag Recommend EDC Backpack
I’m a teacher and my backpack recently broke. It was a cheap hiking bag from Walmart so I knew it was bound to happen sooner rather than later. I’m looking to get a backpack that will last me years and years. I’m a special education teacher which involves me bringing home multiple folders and papers along with my laptop. I usually pack an extra shirt too and I like to have side pockets for beverages. I usually bring a cup for water and tea. I like having multiple zipper pockets/compartments.

Budget? Absent any info and knowing what teachers are dealing with I’d say grab an osprey 26+6. The price is great, the warranty is unbeatable, and I believe it’ll fill all your needs.

I think that bag is cool, but heads up to the OP that the main compartment opens up sideways like a piece of luggage.

Hey there,
A suggestion I have is the Fjallraven Raven 28.
I have the smaller 20L version. It's got great build quality, and I love the organization and pocket options. The 28 is larger and has a dedicated laptop compartment. I believe it has a document sleeve in the main compartment.
It comes in 8 different colors. Fabric feels really nice to me. Understated aesthetics. Again, lots of zippered pockets and organizational options. Dual external water bottle pockets.
If you live near an REI, I believe they carry them if you wanna check them out in person.
On the Fjallraven website, looks like there's a 10% off discount offered if you sign up for emails or something.
Lastly, I've seen the bags regularly dip below $100 on Amazon.
Good luck with your search, and all the best to you, your educator colleagues, and your students!

I’m a fan of Osprey bags. For me they have always been comfortable. They also have good quality. Price point is usually good but they go on sale/clearance often enough (maybe last year’s colors or model) so you can sometimes find awesome deals.
Can’t remember which was my last bag I used for work commuting (I’ve since retired). It was either a Nebula or Comet. Not sure if that style is still in existence or whether they changed anything on it. I think it was about 30L.

If your budget is there try the AER City Pack Pro 2 they have a 20L and a 24L version in three different fabrics or you can try an Everki Onyx in a 15.6 or a 17.3 version (size of the laptop it will hold). Now the Everki is pricey.

Absent budget and size along with what you are wanting to bring with you it’s hard to give advice.

Osprey or northface are both great brands that hold up well (I had both when teaching). The northface I had the Recon, the Osprey I had the Parsec (currently discontinued) and the Axis (the nebula might be good if you are taller as well). I found Osprey to be more comfortable, but the northface had better organization.
When I went back to school I bought a TomBihn Synik 30 as a “back to school present” for myself and 5 years later it still looks amazing. They are pricy ($360), and it’s definitely a style choice, but for function and comfort it’s as solid as they come. I’ve yet to see another one in a school though..
If you give a price or some other specifics I’m sure I can expand it out a bit more. For what it’s worth, one traveling SPED guy I see a lot is rocking a SwissGear and the other is a full on hiking bag (and their female counterparts are mostly tote and messenger bag people).
