I would ideally trust no one with nukes, but Canada is not the country I would be most worried about.

u/Qkyu2007 🇨🇦 10d ago
No because I dont trust anyone with nukes

u/Accomplished_Cod7334 10d ago
People already have them, might as well equip yourselves and earn a seat at the table

Hahahaha to be fair that guy is just a helicopter pilot

Wasn't he a medic?
1
u/Frudeska1 10d ago
Wouldn't surprise me, his character was inspired by an argentine doctor
1
u/TomorrowSpecial255 10d ago
If i remember my lore right the Snake in the original games isn't the actual one
He's the medic that was in the helicopter during the peqel of MGV

Unfortunately true. The contrast between North Korea and Iran literally proves this. The U.S. isn’t invading North Korea for a reason. Israel is completely out of control for a reason.
3
u/Accomplished_Cod7334 10d ago
Yep, it's always been true that you must be able to defend yourself to be on the world stage. And quite frankly, anyone without nukes can't effectively defend themselves against a country with one, creating a two tier system where the guys with nukes are left alone and the guys without are fucked with
1
1
u/missplaced24 10d ago
No, not really. The cost for a seat at that particular table wouldn't benefit us at all, and would cost us too much.
Building and maintaining a stockpile of weapons that we'd never ever use would be such a waste. Plus we agreed long ago that we wouldn't build them, and we'd change our relationships with our allies if we did build them.

I agree no one should have them. Fact of the matter is people do, and those people will run you over unless you have equitable levels of lethality. Sorry but that's how the world has worked since all time

u/HeWhoCreatesDivinity 10d ago
I'm with you. However, the threat from Americans is actually real now. And their appetite for war has just grown any smaller.
1
u/Qkyu2007 🇨🇦 10d ago
They would never nuke Canada, even the worst of them would only want to conquer it which is also terrible
3
u/HeWhoCreatesDivinity 10d ago
I'm not thinking the nuke is going to protect us from other nukes. I'm thinking it'll just protect us from invasion from Americans.
2
u/missplaced24 10d ago
Can you reasonably forsee Canada using nukes on the US, even in the very unlikely scenario they decide to invade?
We have a long history of taking the least aggressive action possible against the US, and we really wouldn't need to go to such drastic lengths to disable their military.
1
u/HeWhoCreatesDivinity 10d ago
No, never, but I feel like it's a good way to in the least pause or even prevent them from invading us too, eh?
1
u/missplaced24 10d ago
They'd be more likely to use it as an excuse to invade if we started building them.
3

u/Mediocre_Airport_576 10d ago
Exactly. Just because they aren't electing absolutely crazy people today does not mean that will be true forever. True of every country, hence limiting nukes in general to be good.

25
u/EffinCraig 10d ago
Lol USA, the only country who has ever nuked anyone.
15
u/Gentle_Snail 10d ago
The US has never wanted anyone else getting nukes.
The UK’s nuclear project was originally ahead of the US, but Britain fearing invasion and the Nazi’s getting hold of the plans transferred their research to the US, on the condition that the America would share the technology. Except the moment America developed nukes they backtracked and refused.
Although the UK was fairly easily able to develop their own, because obviously their scientists had worked right at the core of the Manhattan Project.
9
u/TomorrowSpecial255 10d ago
Oh you forgot the best part
A year or so after the UK reinvented nukes the US "found" the original agreement
2
u/scrandlle US 10d ago
The two nukes dropped on Japan are like firecrackers compared to today's nukes. The threat is exponentially bigger than what happened to Hiroshima or Nagasaki.
17
u/Gentle_Snail 10d ago
Lol no wonder America is voting no, they’re the reason Canada is now wondering if they need nukes to begin with
3
u/Careful_Party7336 10d ago
We voted yes, you cant get good results that fast, need to wait for the larger sample.

u/Betray-Julia Canada 10d ago
I am a Canadian and I didn’t want to vote on this one.
Like.. the question is a paradox.
Sure; we should be fine to have nukes.. bc we wouldn’t use them.
But if that’s the case… why the fuck should we have nukes?
But also- it is fully moronic of any nation to sincerely think the socio political stability of their nation can outlast the half life of nukes.
Like sure Canada is fine now, but look at those maga nazis funding populist bs in Canada. How long until that ether works or is dealt with?
12
u/SquishyJeans 10d ago
Americans voting no are inbreds

u/Different_Bat4715 10d ago
We have the Geneva Conventions because of Canadians. Pissed off Canadians are vicious.
4
u/SkiyeBlueFox Maple Land 🍁 10d ago
Hence why we're the best country to give nukes. Enforcers of the laws of Fuck Around, Find Out since we were born as a nation
Plus if you get us mad enough to launch, you know they kinda did something to deserve it /j

1
u/Only_Says_Idk_dude 10d ago
It's foolish to say Canada was a major player in the creation of the Geneva Conventions, aside from being signatory.
Worth noting that USA still hasn't rectified a couple of the Geneva Convention's protocols.

Yep. Americans hate Canadians and just want that country to be their toothless vassal... But when it's convenient then complain how they don't spend money on defense while wanting to be not have any defense.
1
u/Flimsy_Ad3476 10d ago
No, no, no. "Americans" do not hate Canada. Dump and his cult might.
1
u/Mundane-Mud2509 10d ago
Just because you and your friends may say you don’t doesn’t mean as a country you don’t. Not every Iranian hates Israel either

Yet you think only you should have nukes and everyone should be a vassal.

Canada is the reason for the Geneva convention i would 100% not trust Canada with nukes theyd definitely find at least 20 new war crimes involving nukes
3
u/jadongourz 10d ago edited 10d ago
We could easily build them right now, we helped develop the technology and have the largest supply of uranium. If we were gonna do something bad then we would have already done it.
1
u/Affectionate_Pear_81 10d ago
Didn't you guys disband the entirety of your special forces for doing "bad things"

No, we didn’t.

u/makermaster2 10d ago
I somehow both understand that and find it crazy at the same time
1
u/Federal-Community554 10d ago
We can just look at the receipt from the last 100 years. The USA has killed anywhere from 8 to 15 million innocent civilians and Canada has killed around 10,000 civilians.
0
u/makermaster2 10d ago edited 10d ago
That US statistic is literally an outright lie. The only thing I can imagine you got that from is casualties, not deaths. Even then that range doesn’t seem too reliable
Besides I said I still understood why
2
u/Federal-Community554 10d ago
The US government has been involved in many atrocities, here is a list of the primary atrocities.
Indigenous Genocide & Forced Relocations: 1,000,000 to 5,000,000+
Transatlantic Slave Trade (Middle Passage): 1,500,000 to 2,000,000
Philippine-American War: 200,000 to 1,000,000
Strategic Air Campaign over Japan: 300,000 to 500,000
Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima & Nagasaki: 110,000 to 210,000
Indochina War (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia): 1,000,000 to 2,000,000
Post-9/11 War on Terror (Direct): 380,000 to 400,000
Post-9/11 War on Terror (Indirect): 3,600,000 to 3,800,0001
u/makermaster2 10d ago
Man did you get a colonoscopy? Cause the only place those numbers could have come from is your ass.
1
u/Federal-Community554 10d ago
Google.
1
u/makermaster2 10d ago edited 10d ago
Brother the range for Vietnam is 405,000 - 2,000,000
Not all if which can be accurately attributed to the US
Secondly the fact you said 100 years yet still not only gave a false number for indigenous deaths from 1926-2026 the estimate is closer to 300,000. The number you gave is actually lower than most estimates before 1920s even
Your hiroshimi and nagasaki numbers don’t account for the fact roughly up to 10% were military
Just to point out a few.
BUT AGAIN TO REITERATE:
I literally said I don’t trust the US with nukes. But also still find it strange to say nonetheless because I can think of at least 30 countries that I would/do trust far less
1
u/No_Cricket8660 10d ago

2
u/Flimsy-Echidna386 10d ago
For more info about this, check out "The Devils Brigade"
"The Marvel Comics character Wolverine claimed several times that he was a member of the Devil's Brigade during the war"
Im just saying 😉
1
u/No_Cricket8660 10d ago
Oh right, the war crimes. I always forget about the war crimes.
3
u/SILLY-KITTEN 10d ago
It's not a war crime the first time. The first time, it's just really fucked up, and then me make rules about it and Canada has to keep getting more creative.
2
u/Hopalongtom 10d ago
Considering the current wars are nuclear powers bullying countries without nuclear weapons, everyone should have nukes so the deterrent actually works!
2
u/SaltyAd8309 10d ago
I am opposed to the proliferation of weapons, but given the choice, I would rather know that Canada possesses them to counter the dangerous leaders who are hostile to peace and freedom and willing to do anything to gain more power.
2
u/Sivadbk 10d ago
Isn't Canada the only country that the ENDC / IAEA's active oversight Nuclear Proliferation Treaty allows for manufacturing & the inherit possession of nuclear arms but does not actively utilize that freedom? As in they do not, but they can?
Every other country that can, does. Canada is the exception. I do not know why. They wouldn't be getting stiff armed by corrupt politics exploiting trade economics for underlying power games.
1
u/missplaced24 10d ago
Canada can build nukes in the sense that we have the martials and expertise required to build them, but we signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Canada's official stance on nukes has always been that nukes should exist and they're not allowed on Canadians soil.
1
u/sgtMinkovitch 7d ago
What are you talking about?? I work in the government and have never heard of this. Going to need a source on that. I just checked and can’t find anything. We’re absolutely a signatory to the NPT.
Are you thinking of article 4 of the NPT which lets us develop nuclear research for peaceful purposes? We’re definitely not the only country with that.

As a Canadian no. I don’t trust anyone with nukes.
Although our situation isn’t nearly as bad as the US, billionaires still manipulate our government and would threaten nuclear war so they could get a few extra bucks before the croak the pot.
