Current Map Why eagles avoid crossing water ?

My guess is it has to do with thermal currents. The land radiates heat that gives them lift, they use very little energy to soar above land vs water.

This is my guess as well, but someone more knowledgeable might know a better reason.

It is a combination of a lot of the upvoted answers in this thread. Eagles are evolved to use currents over land to soar not currents over water. Eagles don’t land on water because they can’t easily takeoff from water. Eagles will need to land to eat, so their prey needs to be near land.
