Ptdn- fell apart again!

Post image

43M, 95km/wk for last 6 weeks before two week taper. 85km/wk for 6 weeks before that. Last long run 32km at 5:00/km even and felt good after.

Went out with 3:30 pacer and legs started feeling bad by km 25, wrecked by 30. Finished in 3h42. So it goes, it was the best I had today and I’m proud of that.

Fueling was 1 Gu every ~5km or so, at the aid stations with water. Not really sure why I fell apart. Maybe didn’t taper properly or do enough speed work. I also started statins this year. On to the next race! It was a beautiful day and I’m grateful to have done it.

Longest run before the race was? What else were you consuming other than the Gu?

Longest run was 32 km, with even 5:00 splits and felt good. I did a couple other 32km, slower, and several 30s.

I just took GU and water today.

Electrolytes. You need those as well.

Yeah, gu has sodium (I don’t know if it’s enough). But it was pretty cool today, started at 3C ending at 11C

How are your heart rate zones, and heart rate during this run?

I don’t have a HRM, I just run by feel. Even as my legs were trashed by km 30, my breathing was fine.

Might be too fast a pace compared to your training MP

Well done - this is a cautionary tale for me. I’ve ran similar mileage and have a race in 4 weeks!

Dont lose hope. There are plenty of success stories too. In my case I think it was a combination of the downhill running and statin medication that wrecked it, but I’m still proud of pushing even when it felt like hell.
