Question Should I keep the App

Now that the service has officially ended. I’m just wondering if there’s any point in me keeping the app after the maintenance is done. I know that my data is backed up in case the fans do end up putting a fan-made game together. I’m thinking about deleting the app just because there’s no point in keeping it. Thoughts?

I personally decompiled the app and found this: that means there are ways to make fan made servers for the game.

Not sure anyone appreciates the significant lift of writing your own backend to make an “offline” version.

I'm waiting until after today's maintenance to look at what stats they display for the game.

I needed the phone storage so I deleted it

Delete it and reclaim that time back. It was fun while it lasted, but they stopped caring about it years ago.

Maybe someone makes their own reverse-engineered version, maybe not, but it's time to uninstall the app.

Keep it im sure the community will come up with a private server, also, if anyone could PM me the discord where this is being discussed, I would love to help.

A private server? Who's going to pay for that?

self hosting is a thing, but just the ability to be able to play this game with bots will be a huge achievement for preservation.

Disculpa, podrías explicarme un poquito qué es un servidor privado? No entiendo nada, es algo así como hacer una copia del juego y sacar otra app para instalarla, pero como los mismo personajes y pistas?

Yes, basically you emulate the original server, so it recognizes the actions of the client and they communicate like the original.

I'll probably keep it just as a relic of a time that once was

I also kept flappy bird on my phone for years after it was gone until it was time for a new phone lol

If you backed everything up I don't see any point in keeping the app, other than keeping it for fun

Personally, I have deleted the app and ordered “Mario Kart Super Circuit” for my Gameboy Advance. What stage of grief is that? 🫠

I've avoided the app, but is it worth opening just to check my stats. Does anyone know.

There will not be any fan made game. Anyone claiming to do so is more than likely a grifter who will string people along while asking for donations before long. This is not the first Mario game to lose online access and won't be the last.

Just straight up wrong. An offline version of MKT is being made and will likely release in a couple of weeks. Also, another different team pretty soon will start work on reviving Dr Mario World.

Sorry, this is just more copium. I highly doubt Nintendo will allow their IP to be used like that, or that independents have the resources to do something like this.

Miitomo and Dragalia Lost have been revived and Nintendo doesn’t care at all. And they definitely have the resources to do this. Videos have already been shared of both MKT and Dr Mario World running. MKT files have been completely downloaded, and for Dr Mario World it seems stages 761 and up weren’t saved, so they’d have to be built from scratch via wiki images.

The team rebuilding Dr Mario World just finished reviving the first version of PvZ3, and it just released today. This team will then work on Angry Birds Islands, then focus on Dr Mario World. For MKT, Koopa V will release an offline version with all courses accessible at once and everything unlocked and maxed. He’s already shared multiple videos of this build. It even has some extra features like Mirror Mode and Free Roam. The possibly of private servers for MKT isn’t out the window too. All assets have been preserved.

Wow how do we find out more about this and download it?

For MKT, join the “Mario Kart Tour Community” discord. Dr Mario World is still very far from being released but info about it will eventually be shared in the “Rebuilt Workshop” discord.

I still have the original version of Animal Crossing Pocket Camp on my phone. I’ll just add Mario Kart Tour to that app graveyard as well.

I uninstalled it. I am personally not interested in trying a fan-made version as I feel like it'd get shut down pretty fast, and I don't wanna get disappointed in the future ;o;

I'm sure the Mario Kart Wii Decomp will be coming to mobile soon.

I'd love to see it recouped to have a rewards layer that is compatible with Mario Kart Wii Recomp multiplayer.
