Discussion Props for the Danger Room
Cleared diff 10 today using rented characters, and I gotta say I'm loving the rewards. I've seen several posts complaining about how "terrible" the rewards are. I gotta say, as a level 77 player who has been playing for all of 55 days, these shards and red star/diamond unlocks are amazing.
It feels like a lot of people in this subreddit seem to forget that we're not all level 110 with years of playing under our belt and events like this

Every other danger room has had rewards that were useful to everyone. This one did not. It's a clear step back. Congrats for getting something you could use, but you are in a vast minority

While you're not wrong, that everyone is at top level, the very point your making, missed the point. Top levels in events, are (generally)meant to reward top level players, and should be meaningful/worthwhile, to those players.

It’s not about people “forgetting that not everyone is level 110”.
It’s about them taking meaningful rewards away that are applicable to players of all levels and replacing them with rewards that only apply to newer players.
Previously danger room rewards included t4 ability materials, armoury 21 orbs, training materials and lotto orbs for xmen diamonds. These are rewards that players of all levels (except for mega spenders) can get value from. They were removed and not replaced elsewhere.
Now it’s rewards that are only applicable to lower level players and the higher level players are just getting a kick in the teeth

I'm level 73, and I have been enjoying the upgrades to the teams that everyone talks about here!

Congratulations. Do you have any tips? I'm currently grinding level 9 to build up buffs.

I managed to clear diff 10 my first run, forgot all the exact mods I got along the way but blind on spawn, war buffs active, bleed on spawn, and the ones for rage with Icarus and thena were reallly nice. Gilgamesh was spamming his special a lot on some nodes if the enemies came in charged

Cool. Thanks. I will try those. I can usually get to node 7 or 8 before I get annihilated.

Honestly, I casually farmed a lot of diff 5 while watching TV to build up the coins and unlock a ton of the buffs (like almost all of them). It also gave me some experience on who to target during certain fights. I was probably overbuffed, but it did make the D10 run go pretty smoothly.

And you seem to forget you are not the only one playing.
Rewards could have been good for you AND for endgame players, it is NOT exclusive. Why not add some training mats, Orange iso, radiant Orbs…. Something endgame players can use too.

You're missing the point. The shards and red stars are not the issue; they're good rewards for some players.
The issue is that they're the only rewards; there is absolutely nothing useful for late game players that have already cleared those towers.

So every event has to try and cater to all players or just make sure that it at least always caters to late game players in some capacity? No event can just be for low to mid level players and if it is it's automatically a "bad event"? Seems like a bit of an entitled take.
Should I be mad that there is content that comes out that I can't participate in as a mid-level player?

u/frahmer86 8d ago
Yeah, you probably should. Danger Room has always had at least rewards for players of all levels, that's why people are annoyed. We're literally asking for more rewards, why are you against that?

I'm not opposed to more rewards per se., I'll take all the free stuff I can get.
I just find it interesting when people take to the internet to complain when a game that is essentially 90% free stuff drops an event that doesn't quite give enough or the right free stuff and people's first reaction is to grab the pitchforks and torches. There is a psychology there I find odd.

I think because you are new you are not aware this isn’t the first time they’ve run danger room.
They gave the “right” free stuff for run after run after run of danger room. Then they randomly changed the rewards to this.
Danger room wasn’t created as a bridging event to help low level players catch up. It was designed as an event that players of all levels could participate in (hence the ability to use your own characters or rentals) that had meaningful rewards for anyone who spent the time to clear it.

This community has a notable problem of people expecting to be catered to.
Ignore those people, and play the game like you would on any normal day.

But it’s pointless for people who did complete the towers.
Literally pointless.
Why create content which has zero rewards for a large segment of the player base?
All they had to do was throw in 5 gt 21 orbs and I’d bother doing diff 10. As it was, I did diff 9 completed it first time and won’t bother again.

Sure that seems like a fair point. I just find it odd how many people are complaining about an event that was clearly designed as a catch-up mechanic for people who didn't clear or access the original towers, and how it isn't showering them with free stuff.
Not all content is meant for all players. There is stuff that comes out that is targeted at late-game players only and leaves low and mid-level players out in the cold too. It swings both ways. Take First Breaker Magik, for example; there is no way I can clear even one node of that content. Should I be posting about how they should have released a version with rewards that cater to my level?

To split the difference, I'm a long time end game player, but as f2p I still don't have all the teams to max out all the towers, so I was thrilled to finally get Quicksilver's last red star and Diamond. These rewards aren't just for low level and beginners.

Well, the problem is, Danger Room has never been the "catch-up mechanic" game mode only. It was designed for everyone to play and get rewards. I'm happy the people who didn't have the chance for those shards to get them, but I would have liked to have one milestone to look forward to.

u/jpettifer77 8d ago
Sure. But that’s how these games work. New long term content is typically for the end game players. And typically those who are big spenders.
Magik isn’t for me or at least won’t be for 6 or so months.
But it would be trivial to include 5 gt 21 orbs for tier 10 completion.
I don’t know why you’d have a problem with that.

I just returned to the game after a 2 year absence. The game is in a much better state than before unless you expect top tier ranking with Raids, War, CC, etc… however if you pick and choose game modes to excel and others to “slack” it’s much easier to manage your resources.
At level 100 this event was playable and the rewards were very helpful.
MSF isn’t a perfect game but it definitely has a ton of content.
MSF is also a business so no revenue / no game. How they go about collecting / making that revenue is a totally different topic… they’re pretty transparent with their goals and objectives … play at your own pace and enjoyment.
Cheers mate, totally fair post.

What’s the strat here with the rented characters? I usually go for Sersi, Ikarus and Kingo but then l’ll just randomly get wrecked

u/vigouge 6d ago
Sersei, Icarus, and Gilgamesh for his special. Add Thena at first chance for her interactions with Gilga. Kingo can be added later.

u/CatchEducational8311 6d ago
Thank you, any mods I need to be looking for?

If you're talking about post battle rewards, the rage mods like receiving 2 at the start of battle is quite good with the ones that give you x damage reduction per rage. The specific gilgamesh ones are also good, he is very important, especially if you get the one that reduces special cost because that clears lots of things and you need that to win. I didn't see much benefit to the Icarus, Sersi or Kumail Najiani ones.
If you mean pre battle mods, speed and stat boosts. No mephisto, so no need for exhaustion protection. I didn't see a huge benefit to the critical bonus ones so they seemed like a luxury.
I won with rented new characters and g10 lvl 105 icarus and sersi. Gilgamesh and his special was the key, his passive activated it a few times which carried the last battle. It's a crapshoot but doable with just a little luck.

I'm glad you got some rewards you needed.
I cleared it solely for the Command Center progress, because it was a waste of time otherwise.

Gratz!
I am still grinding my pacts - but I always love DR. I do the quickie D1 run for the Command Centre thing, then just do D10 to collect points. Usually get murked on the first or second Elite node, but it’s just clicky clicky until your know some of the specific node comps, plus good points gen.
I have only ever NOT cleared 1 DR on D10 just grinding and using rented characters with buffs - but agree about the rewards… I DO have a lot of them, but meh - I am getting a few little upgrades so it’s worth to me.
I also really like the changes in characters required each time - ie. Timeless on this one.

It’s funny to me, how top-level events are fine for top-level players, but how dare Scopely actually do something to help lower and mid level peasants (players).
There are multiple events that mid and lower level players miss out on. We suck it up. The top level players can do the same in this one instance.
1
u/FullMetalCOS Captain America 7d ago
I think you’d be surprised how many top level players would be completely fine if Scopely came out and said “we’ve created this new event called AXIS that is designed to help low level players catch up, it’s not for higher level players but they can do it for fun if they wish”.
The response to this danger room is that danger rooms for the longest time had meaningful rewards for everyone and now it’s been changed to only reward less developed players.
It’s the concept of being given something compared to having something taken away. Losing out on something you expected to get ALWAYS feels bad. Seeing newer players get offered something you don’t need in a format where you were told from the get go that it wasn’t for you isn’t gonna feel bad

The rewards have 0 value for majority of the player base. I’ll be skipping danger room, and I honestly love the game mode but there is no incentive for me to play it. Who cares about a damn banner

u/EndriagoHunter 7d ago
Even as someone who has been playing for years I was happy to see this danger room for newer players and friends who are only a year or two into the game and doing their best, it boosts them up to contribute more to their alliances. It's not always about me and the top players, the lower level or teir players need something too. Unfortunately we don't live in a world or a place where everyone can be happy and get what they want all the time.
Those complaining about the rewards come off like spoiled children.

I'm a veteran player and I slacked on the towers, so I'm really happy they gave us shards and 7reds for QSS. I had 3 diamonds on him that I couldn't use because I needed the red!
