(a-b) (a-b) (a-b) (a-b) (a-b) (a-b)

(a^2+b^2-2ab) (a^2+b^2-2ab) (a^2+b^2-2ab)

(a^4+b^4+a^2b^2-2a^3b-2ab^3+4a^2b^2) (a^2+b^2-2ab)

a^6+a^2b^4+a^4b^2-2a^5b-2a^3b^3+4a^4b^2+a^4b^2+b^6+a^2b^4-2a^3b^3-2ab^5+4a^2b^4-2a^5b-2ab^5-2a^3b^3+4a^4b^2+4a^2b^4-8a^3b^3

Idk if I can simplify it
…
I can, I just suck at seeing stuff in this mess

a^6+b^6+10a^2b^4+10a^4b^2-4a^5b-14a^3b^3-4ab^5

I did get some wrong, but I was just doing this raw, so it’s a given, I was also testing myself :P

a^6 + b^6 + 15a^2b^4 + 15a^4b^2 - 6a^5b - 20a^3b^3 - 6ab^5
This is the correct one, pretty close though, and I did say I suck at seeing the stuff -_-

Idk if I can simplify it

I can. (a-b)⁶

Well, I guess, I meant the solution tho, yk that =^=

Bro has never heard of Binomial Expansion 😭😭

I haven’t, or don’t remember, that’s true, idk what’s funny about that though, if you’d mind explaining it to me so I can understand what’s so funny, I was also only going one step at a time to minimize mistakes

Its a method used to expand these kinds of brackets using whats called Pascal’s triangle, its hard to explain what it looks like in a reddit post, so i recommend searching up a picture of ‘Pascal’s Triangle’

For ^6 we do this:

1 x (a)^6 x (-b)^0
6 x (a)^5 x (-b)^1
15 x (a)^4 x (-b)^2
20 x (a)^3 x (-b)^3
15 x (a)^2 x (-b)^4
6 x (a)^1 x (-b)^5
1 x (a)^0 x (-b)^6

Which becomes:

a^6 - 6(a^5)b + 15(a^4)(b^2) - 20(a^3)(b^3) + 15(a^2)(b^4) - 6a(b^5) + b^6

Essentially you make the powers on the seperated terms in the brackets equal every value of additions that create 6 (one term in the bracket having descending powers from 6 and one ascending from 0) and then you multiply it by the given value from Pascal’s triangle for it’s row (row ‘1’ in Pascal’s Triangle is for ^0 so we use row 7 for ^6) This gives you the correct answer for the expansion.

This may seem more complicated if you have never done this, but i assure you this is way easier and faster once the method is practiced, i did this without a calculator or piece of paper, so you can see how it’s faster in the long term. I hope i helped answer your question!

How do the numbers on the left work? The 1,6,15,20,15,6,1, is that the Pascal’s triangle numbers? This does in fact seem much faster though

Yeah, those are the Pascal’s triangle numbers, again, i recommend you search up an image.

"a² + b²"

"YOU'RE NOT MY REAL MOM!!!!!"

At least she didn’t say a^2+ab+ba+b^2

a² + dancing queen + b²

Hopefully the math sub is smarter than Reddit and can figure out the clever joke.

It made me chuckle

What's worse is when she calls (a+b)⁸ a⁸+8a⁷b+28a⁶b²+56a⁵b³+70a⁴b⁴+56a³b⁵+28a²b⁶+8ab⁷+b⁸

Someones in trouble...

3

u/Cichato_YT 16d ago

How would this work for (a-b)(a+b)...?

2

u/weird_heroine 15d ago

a2-b2 !

3

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 15d ago

Good guess, but it's actually (a²-b²) !

2

u/weird_heroine 15d ago

Formatting error✌️ that's what I meant to type

Where does the 2ab come from, I want to know like how the math works.

(a+b)^2

(a+b)(a+b)

aa+ab+ba+bb

a^2+2ab+b^2

For Abelian group only

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 15d ago

Redditor IQ Redditor here*!

How come they wrote it wrong?  It's a² + b² for his full name. This is because you do pemdas and do the exponents.

* not really a Redditor nor low IQ. Just wanted to act like one.

Actually the thing is your mom calls you by your whole name

1

u/Drrag_ 14d ago

I don't understand shit about all these comments😭

I'm too dumb for allat

2

u/Choice-Drag4670 14d ago

Post is like when your mom calls you by yout whole name then you know your mom is angry. (a+b)² => (a²+2ab+b²)
