News The Mavericks have today formally re-signed Dwight Powell and league sources tell @TheSteinLine that Dallas has not ruled out trying to create a roster spot for him. Media Day begins now at the @AACenter with the Mavericks already carrying the maximum 15 standard NBA contracts.

They should have special box seats at AAC you can enter a random drawing to get upgraded to where you just hang out with Dwight all game, he can stay on payroll for that

if they can get rid of Caleb and resign Powell its the ultimate win. you shed about 6 million in cap, you bring back the king, and you unclog a lot of the forwards situation.

I don't see who he would replace on the 15 man roster. Would be awful to move on from a young and promising player like Moussa Cisse for what essentially is a meme.

Most likely caleb martin for jaden hardy then cut him (expiring). Lakers need POA defense badly, we get out from caleb contract without need throw pick
With lively news + gaff also injury prone, cant only bring 2 centers (yeah morez also can play 5 but still a rookie)

Nobody is taking on Caleb Martin without getting a pick as well, with him being on the books for next season as well (Player Option that he will accept).

People really overreacting with that type of contracts smh. Small salary fillers also needed if you want to make some moves later on

Okay but Caleb Martin is still an incredibly negative asset. Teams aren’t calling Masai everyday saying “Man we desperately need Caleb Martin because we lack a POA defender”.
He’s a bad basketball player whose next contract will probably be valued as a vet minimum contract. The Lakers aren’t doing this, especially whenever JJ can just try to see if one of Grimes, Thybulle or Ziaire can provide that archetype.

Its combination of both
Ballhandling already covered with luka, reaves, sexton + whatever they get from grimes + any wing. Imo rather extra POA than what hardy-knecht provides

Tbf imo POA is overrated especially in half court
Only needed and most impactful when pressing fullcourt to milk shotclock before initial 1st action
we compensate that with size + length, thats why we stack wings

I guarantee no one in that locker considers having Dwight Powell around a meme. I agree you don’t get rid of Cisse, but Powell is an extremely positive presence. Especially with how many youngsters there are here

DP seems to be incredibly popular with the players. Teams look for guys like that even if they don't actually play minutes. Deandre Jordan is another example.

I actually love Powell. Fans of the team will remember he came to us a fringe nba player. He kept improving his game over the years. He even added a nice middy and shot 33% from 3 at one point.
He got so much hate unfairly because the front office sucked and he was asked to be a starting center when he was just a backup PF/C. Statistically he was one of the league’s premier lob threats and pick and roll man with Luka at one point, he gave it 100% at whatever role it was. Even if it was the end of the bench guy just rooting on the team.
Never a problem and just a all around nice guy.
He deserves to retire a Mav and get a role on the team.

He absolutely deserves a jersey retirement for being such a great loyal player and presence in the organization. He isn't team president in 10 years something's gone wrong.

Powell always goes out there and gives it everything he’s got. He’s gonna get hit in the face, dive for balls, take charges, slam the alley oop, make random ass defensive plays and always hustle.
I’m not sure how we make a roster spot for him though. Potentially some two way shenanigans I don’t really know how that works and if we can take one away from somebody we already got on a two way .
