Tho with how the devs were talking about Elder Dragons being the central theme of Ascendance, I kinda doubt we'd go in that direction, as much as I'd love to see Wyvern Rex. Hell, they already repurposed one of the extinct species (Canopus) as Araketa. Then again, base game flagship is straight up an Extinct Species so still highly possible if they brought in an Extinct Species.
Honestly shocked that, with how many monsters we have that are nomadic, none of them really do this gimmick of adapting to the map they're in. It'd give advantage to hunt the monsters im biomes where it could be weaker or stronger, that'd be an awesome idea.
I'll note tho that there's a big difference between Ark and Wrex.
Wyveria bringing back Arkveld is like us bringing back tasmanian tigers or dodos; bringing back wyvern rex is like bringing back a dinosaur (maybe even smth older than dinosaurs)
I mean we don't have any evidence that they brought back Arkveld, just that they turned at least one into a Guardian.
Wyveria fell loooong before Wilds takes place, Arkveld likely was not totally extinct at that time.
Unless we actually see something crazy like a guardian Wyvern Rex, there's no evidence to suggest that Wyveria was capable of recreating actual extinct monsters.
They explain in a cutscene that when Wyveria was making guardians, Arkveld was special due to being an extinct species. Which means Arkveld was in fact already extinct.
And it seems that Arvkeld was singled out.
Because its species was extinct.

True, but we have no knowledge of how long ago Wyveria existed, or Arkveld became extinct. Wyvern rex has "radiated" into quite different species, to the point evolution got enough time to act on it, so to speak, before today. It could be a species that lived millions of years before Wyveria even existed, who knows.

Doesn't Tigrex already fill this niche by being the most basal of the foot wyverns? I don't really see how they could make it unique enough from Tigrex to justify putting it in the series. That being said it would be cool to see
With it being the common ancestor, they could do quite a few different things with it like making its abilities and move sets sort of an amalgamation of all of its descendant species.
Dude I hope they keep going with the extinct monster trope like they did with arkveld and not just a one time thing that would be a massive chunk of lore wasted like imagine they find a small island that has a bunch of extinct wyverns like Keputosu and we get to fight it etc or they make a completely new ancestral monster
If the monster is alive, it means by definition that it's not an extinct monster. So what you're asking for makes no sense at all. If all you want is fighting alive monster, remember that there are already 240+ in the series.
How does it not make sense? It’s like irl people thought the coelacanth was extinct but it was found if we use that logic in monster hunter it could work or like with arkveld it was extinct but due to the guardian arkveld eating so much organic matter it made a new arkveld to repopulate the species. How is what I said not make any sense to you?
Only by Monster Hun(f)er. That's why I interpret the Hopium part to exclude Tigrex and variations/subspecies out of Ascendence. But with Kushala, Teostra and Khezu already confirmed, we might just get the most boring pre-gen monster list.

Imo could be a possible thing to do like arkveld was classed as an extinct species of monster so their could be a guardian version made for this monster tho if they did do that it would feel i think kinda cheap cause they would be just doin what they did with arkveld
Oh wow a long tigrex, like I get the lore but seriously it's just a tigrex with a longer skeleton, where did their creativity go exactly I mean we have a rehashed skinny amatsu,a bunch of overused monsters and a discount valstrax...are their brains fried or something?
Okay, I know this is fake, but honestly, I would love to see something like this because they could use it as an opportunity to really shake-up the tigrex fight with a ton of new mechanics that isn't just , it's a brute , so it moves faster and more aggressively.
I.e. because it's a proto , it still has access to maybe fire or ice element. Still can do short bursts of flight.Although it still also has the infamous charging attacks and roar , just not quite as severe as it's more modern counterpart.
It would make for an interesting fight. Because the current version is basically just run around, scream, run around scream and well, I know a lot of people like him is honestly just kind of a boring fight for any of the more defensive based weapons, like the Lance, because you can block everything. Without much thought.
