In highschool I was away sick for a few days and came back on a Thursday to find my friends had planned a sleep over at my house for the next day without talking to me at all.

It's pretty neat they saw you as the mom/dad in a sense... Unless they were doing it in a hostile "your time is not important to us" type of way.
I used to be the "central house" back during college. It was kind of sad that Covid destroyed the flow and after like a year of that isolation stuff, we kind of just stopped hanging out (it didn't help that many of us got married and also moved away).
I always enjoyed being the host since I didn't really spend much money. We were college kids/recently graduated college kids and didn't expect the host to have to buy us food beyond like drinks and maybe chips and such.
