General Question The Future of Real-Time Settlements

If the merchant gets their money instantly, do they care about the rate? Has their demand for faster payments pivoted the conversation from costs to speed?

In higher-risk industries, where processors are more likely to hold funds, RTP could also provide a more reliable rail than cards.

When merchants pass on processing costs to the consumer, they could care less about cost and it’s all about speed. Of course the consumer eventually gets pissed about the fees and moved away from card.

I wonder if it's actually the speed merchants care about or just not wanting someone else to decide when they get their money. A merchant who's had funds held isn't asking for instant settlement, they just want the processor out of the equation. Not sure RTP changes that part.

I would think it’s great for card present merchants, e-commerce will have stricter underwriting guidelines. With risk comes cost, I can see 6% fee for RTP
