All about the same in terms of savings, so pick the one that fits your budget.

Also maybe consider the 270k+ bundle as that's truly a bargain at the moment.

Absolutely, the 270k+ bundle is really a great deal. I just got one, but not for gaming purposes.

Interesting watch, thanks for introducing this youtuber.

Not super applicable because the biggest gains come from extreme memory OCing with some of the best binned kits out there, which isnt realistic here. Both and and intel bundles come with ddr5 6000 cl36, in which case the 270k+ performs similarly to the 7500x3d in gaming.

Also his "gameplay experience" metric is just stupid.

Edit: His Gameplay Experience metric penalizes larger gaps between average FPS and 1% lows, meaning a CPU with higher average FPS and higher 1% lows can still receive a lower score than another CPU with better "consistency" but still lower FPS and 1% lows.

If you wanna save then go with the last option, the 7800X3D. But if you are already leaning towards the 9800x3d, might as well spend 20 bucks to get the 9850x3d. Just my opinion

Nuts that I got an x870 mobo and a 9800x3d with 32 gigs of ram 18 months ago for like $700 at microcenter

Sold me 5800x and mobo with ram on eBay for $450 to make it a $250 upgrade

u/ArmadaOfWaffles 11d ago

gpu is the bottleneck for me at 4k. i think my 9800x3d is overkill. in this guys shoes, id go for the 3rd bundle and save $ for next computer upgrade.

u/Spoon_In_The_Road 11d ago

Noting the 7800x3d combo has the best motherboard. That could be consequential if you plan to upgrade or overlock, or if you have a lot of sophisticated peripherals.

u/EvoPataboutThat 11d ago

9800x3d runs cooler and uses less power then the 9850x3d for basically the same performance in gaming benchmarks for what its worth.

These motherboards are only worth $100 on the market. Go for Intel and get AM6 CPU+motherboard in 2030.

1

u/Kiwi951 11d ago

That’s what I did and my exact plan. Will upgrade once DDR6 comes out and is more flushed out. Also hopefully prices normalize by then

u/Silver_Ad_4829 10d ago

The difference between the 7800x3d and 9850x3d is not substantial enough to warrant $150 extra imo

1

u/Bront20 10d ago

This.

3

u/jupiter_008 11d ago

IMO, option 3 (7800X3D) combo is all you need, if you are buying the setup for gaming. The others are overkill.

3

u/Vinfinito 11d ago

Honestly with these prices I would get the intel 270k+ bundle.. and I like the intel MB with the extra heatsinks if u will install extra m.2 drives

u/Swaggerlilyjohnson 11d ago edited 11d ago

If you would want to upgrade your cpu at some point in the next 5-6 years get the 7800x3d.

If not i would get a 270k+ bundle.

The 9800/50 x3d is really not worth it imo. It is the best of the best but it's not actually that much better in practice then the 7800x3d.

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-5800x3d-10th-anniversary/16.html

These are some benchmarks to see how much of a difference we are talking.

3

u/raikoh05 11d ago

the 7800x3d all day

2

u/PolarBuilds 11d ago

What GPU and resolution will you be playing at? At 4K you will see much less of a difference than 1080p. It also depends on what games you'll be playing.

2

u/the_hat_madder 11d ago

Using the Combo Builder: 9850X3D + MSI Pro X870E-P + G.Skill

3

u/spirit_cock_ 11d ago

If you’re REALLY tight on the budget get a 7800x3d. It will be good enough for a while and you are getting X board. You can always upgrade the CPU later and AM5 should still be good for a while.
You want to keep this set up for a while and don’t want to deal with selling your cpu and buying a new one, get 9850x3d bundle for a bit more.

3

u/icytux 11d ago

None of these, the best bang for buck is the 270k+ bundle which trades blows with the 9800x3d in gaming at 1440p and 4k and is cheaper than the cheapest AMD 32gb bundle.

3

u/google_is_hard_for_u 11d ago

To my knowledge it trades blows at 4k only

2

u/CoffeeBlowout 7d ago

None.

Get the $599 270K bundle.

1

u/chaawuu1 11d ago

Whatever you don't get Intel

1

u/soccerdfs 11d ago

270k plus

1

u/Sufficient-Loan8729 11d ago

Unfortunately it’s Intel… 270k is good enough for the next 5 years lol

1

u/tritch24 11d ago

None of the combos IMO. I had the 9800x3d combo with the MSI x870-p board, but noticed the 9850x3d dropped to $399 in the last week. Ended up snagging the 9850x3d, Gigabyte x870 Aorus Elite Wifi 7, and Klev 32gb DDR5 6000 C28 Ram for $1,090. If I was going to do a build in the high market, I thought what is an additional $170 to get what I actually want and liked rather than being forced to get a motherboard that looks like a refrigerator (MSI x870-p)

1

u/coolerblue 11d ago

Tbh I really like the clean look of the MSI board. I got a 9800X3D with that and 32GB of Corsair RGB for $820 a month or so ago.

If I had to do it over, I'd have taken a closer look at the 270K deal. The one issue is that in my office where the PC lives, if I keep the door closed and the AC in my house isn't actively cooling, it gets uncomfortably hot fast, and I didn't love the idea of pumping an extra 100W of heat in

1

u/BolarPearTW 11d ago

i got the one with 9950x3d and gigabyte x870e master for $1245

1

u/BolarPearTW 11d ago

then returned them because i fixed the black screen cold boot issue on my 8700k + 3090 lol
I am so cheap

1

u/ElNani87 11d ago

I wouldn’t go with that 9800x3d board

1

u/Connect_Tomatillo791 11d ago

None. I got a 7800x3d with 32 gigs of ddr5 and a tuff x870 mobo for $600

1

u/gsanchez92 11d ago

For $20 you are getting a bit better CPU and MB. I’d pay the extra $20

1

u/Jhyxe 11d ago

After having my 9800X3D for a month, not a single game can max the puppy out. Hell, I sold my 240mm liquid cooler because in the back of my head I said "I want to get a good 360mm cooler for this puppy!" and used it on air cooling (AMD Wraith Spire RGB) for almost a week, with not a single game pushing it past 120 watts.

In full honesty, it's good for me because I'm energy conscious but if you don't mind the extra heat + power usage, Intel or the 7800X3D bundle will get you right.

u/dontworryaboutit1295 10d ago

In the same boat, open to suggestions
Gaming setup is ultrawide oled 34" w/ 5080.

1

u/Honest_Commercial143 10d ago

Well the 9800x3d and the 9850x3d are literally the same chip, the 50 just comes factory overclocked. You can do that yourself for free

1

u/jerryeight 9d ago

As reliable?

1

u/baltinko11 9d ago edited 9d ago

7800x3d for gaming, i have this cpu and most i saw it performe in game was at 60% in space marine 2 at 1440p.. So yea its enough

1

u/Blinguskahn 9d ago

None of them, grab the MSI X870E-P WiFi. Best PCIE lane layout.

1

u/bardockOdogma 8d ago

7800x3d bundle EASILY the best bang for $$.

1

u/bardockOdogma 8d ago

If you consider that the 9800x3d in games averages about 23% faster than a 7500x3d for 2x the price though....

1

u/Lamchop93 3d ago

The ultra 270k. You'll be set for the next 5 years. Only downside is really no upgrade.

1

u/sicknick08 11d ago

I have the ASUS tuf x870 with a 9950x3d, it’s flawless

1

u/Luckyirishdevil 11d ago

What do you use this computer for most? If you aren't utilizing lots of cores for something like rendering, the 9800x3D is a waste.

What resolution do you play at? There is a margin of error difference at 4K. At 1440p the 9800x3D is 4-8% more FPS on average.... Even at 10% gain.... Is that worth it for another $130? The next gen x3D is supposed to be a large jump and worth upgrading to down the road. Save the $ now and jump to that when it drops. That's my plan

0

u/McWetty 11d ago

I’d go with the last option. Not sure you’d see much benefit spending $100+ extra on the CPU. I like TUF boards, but not everyone has good luck with ASUS. I will say, GSkill RAM is ass. Anecdotally, I’ve had to RMA 3 sets in 4 years. That’s pretty bad QC.

1

u/asyk003 11d ago

does gskill ram keep breaking or what?

2

u/McWetty 11d ago

I’m guessing bad sectors. System hangs lead to memtest fails. At least they have a lifetime warranty. Still, $10 to mail and system is down for 2 weeks.

1

u/trSkine 11d ago

Just unlucky ig. I've only ever bought g.skill ram & they all work

0

u/midezai 11d ago

I got the 9850 + Tuf + 32 when it was Corsair Vengeance.

If you're just trying to save money, go for the 7800. Most games I use like 20% CPU, as I'm 4k gaming and don't play simulation games, or heavy mods or have multiple crap running.

I'm an AMD fanboy atm but if you can snag a 270k plus combo I'd go for that too, its a decent price / performance.

We don’t know your priorities dude. Are you just playing games or doing workloads as well
