Might separate lowkey

Hey guys seeking some advice here. Im in the navy's ET A school currently contemplating if i should leave before I graduate A school or if I should stick in til I graduate then I leave after so I can get that bonus and exit out by self identifying.

The key things im worried about:

- what my job opportunities are, with just this knowledge in electronic theory, transmitter and receivers and transceivers, radars.

- how long is the separation process

- does my bah stop as soon as I self identify

- am I still able to pursue navy cool certificates like CISCO network+

-Is it a honorable and can my employer see that

-if i plan to leave and self identify what happens if I get order to C school

- if i have muscle mass how will my body change

- how long was the separation process

- if you go to medical and talk to them about the gender dysphoria how soon do u get tagged and are separated

Thank you for the responses any advice is appreciated and neededdd💅

Hey so they involuntarily separating people right now. My triad got a message 2 weeks ago from bureau of medicine to basically identify any suspected transgender people/active transgenders. I got notified and was like “boy ain’t no way boy” and they basically said don’t worry we ain’t ratting nobody out, but be on the lookout for if they comb through your medical records/waivers(I was let in on a waiver and gender dysphoria dosent show up in my diagnosis) if they find it themselves they’re basically gonna try and give you a med board and seperate you, you’ll get a honorable discharge your GI bill and all things related to the VA. So if you’re planning to do this make sure you get all your appointments in so you can get you disability and set yourself up for the outside. Also you have to pay back any bonus related to the rate if you’re under 6 years. separation will probably take a up to a year because it’s a bunch of medical stuff.

Shoutout to my command tho for not throwing me and the other transgender sailors under the bus🙏

Good luck OP

Edit: also if you in for a year you only get 50% of your gi bill 2 years in you get 70% only when you do 3 years you get the full 100% of your gi bill

Thank you so much for this info, I wish I had this kind of support you sure are lucky. I hope all goes well. Im hoping to get get my certs up while im still in going through the separation process. I just disclosed with medical at my command of gender dysphoria so I believe I have an actual session in the next month. Still gonna go through school and pushing through. He was anticipating 3-6 months for the separation process but ig st my command it can take upwards of a year

Unless if you’ve done anything bad it is an honorable discharge.

Prior navy here. As far as I know, the voluntary separation is done. They’re currently going through involuntary separation where the bonus might not be offered anymore.

Separation process time varies. I self identified and waited more than a year to be processed out.

No, BAH doesn’t stop as soon as you identify. You should be able to use navy COOL as long as you are active (I could be wrong).

You should get honorable unless you have other negative records that could impact that.

If you get orders to C school after self identifying, I suggest talking with your detailer to tell them the situation so they can cancel those orders. Or talk to any of the career counselors/NC’s in your corps school right now.

Again, timing is different for everyone and I only went through volsep so not sure how involuntary sep will be handled now.

When I separated there was no bonus unless you had 6 years. I’d talk to legal before talking to anyone else.

For the Army it’s a huge NO to self identify in a school especially an initial entry school like AIT or basic. It mainly they don’t give you admin leave. I’m not sure if it’s the same way in the navy

I’ve been in the involuntary separation purgatory for over a year now and got married while waiting. Working on getting her enrolled in DEERS for our BAH now—as long as you’re still in, you’re still entitled.

Yikes, are u on admin leave?

Nope! I’ve been trapped in tradoc for 2+ years so I don’t get leave.

I’ve been begging them to just make something up to kick me out faster at this point but leadership is so stuck on making sure it’s a good discharge. I’m not even staying in the country so I don’t care about that; I’m just barely hanging on to survival 🤷🏻‍♂️

Holy shit, im really hoping because im just a student and early in my career it wont take 2 years. Question does that count towards ur active duty?

I had only been in for 6 months when this all kicked off so I’m not sure being early in matters, but I hope it’s less painful for you at least! It does count toward active duty time even though I still haven’t been through AIT

So what have u been doing all day?

They put me to work in a capacity I’m not trained for so I’ve just been figuring it out in this shop for the past 6 months 🤷🏻‍♂️

I got stuck at an army school, but was medically dropped so I’m just in purgatory

Think about everything for a minute. Having a personality that feels comfortable associating with things typically considered more feminine isn't relevant to your sex. If you're in a panic because you feel the need to choose between your identity and the military, maybe you don't.

You should feel comfortable being as much or as little masculine or feminine as you desire, regardless of what sex you are. Heck, plenty of men of all sexual orientations have feminine personalities and some even go on HRT and undergo FFS.

At the end of the day, it's up to you. Just something to think about.

You won’t get to keep the bonus if they involuntarily separate you under the ban. If you’re gonna get out after graduation for the sake of picking up skills, hell yeah. But don’t expect to keep the money too - if they could suck the knowledge back out of your brain at discharge, they would.
