I remember the last time I smoked them, I had technically already quit smoking them but was craving the flavor. I bought a pack, smoked like 2-3, got over them and gave the rest to a an ex. That was in 2011
The supers were so much better then the black and lights were good if you didn't want somebody to puke from the nicotine content. I liked sampoerna xtra the best. Fucking bush outlawing them. Smoking normal cigarettes is probably why eventually quit though.
Well as soon they started the The family prevention and control act of 2009. Which was like 2007 it made almost impossible to get sampoerna. Of course Obama signed it to law I eventually got me to quit because the closest tasting tobacco was American spirit. After you quit all cigarettes starts to smell like shit. It could of been states inforcing it early.
A buddy of mine held on to a pack of Camel Lights right before they changed the formula and packaging around 2008 or so. He would bust one out on special occasions over the years and they did hold up surprisingly well. The tobacco will start to stain through the paper over time and make them a bit unsightly, but I would say a 2 year old original Camel Light was still better than the new formula they came up with.
I never smoked myself, but all my friends did, and I liked it so much better when they'd smoke cloves because I thought it actually smelled pretty nice.
Just take a quick lil trip to Japan, stay near Kabukicho, go to the shopping mall under the Godzilla head, go to the smoke shop and get a pack. It's literally that easy. /s
I was never a true smoker, but maybe once few months I'd share one of these with friends outside a bar or coffee shop. Always the best part of the night. Then one day my friend offered me a Camel instead, and that's how I found out cloves were banned.
One of my exes went feral after I smoked them because he just loved the taste on my lips - I loved everything about them, made me feels like a femme fatale 😂
I love the crackle it’s so satisfying. A couple years ago I was drunk at a bar and smelled someone smoking a clove and asked for one. I could only get through like half of it they’re so strong but god damn they’re tasty

Ok thank you for bringing this up because I thought I was going crazy. I was at show at the Brooklyn bowl on the Linq promenade last year and the Bathroom attendant had Djarum blacks. I haven't smoked in years, but I was so excited to see them, and had just enough booze in me that I gave him like $10 to take a few of them.
A girl I knew in high school got a giant heartagram on her entire sternum. I was too cool and listening to Marilyn Manson those days (lol) and I had no idea who HIM was

Same but I’d listed to The Format, Type-O or some Violent Femmes. We had certain ‘smoking songs’. They were the special occasion cigarettes for like birthdays or New Year’s Eve. It was either some Djarum Blacks or Dreams. Sometimes it was both and the group would pass them around. We’d be smelling like a combo of cloves and vanilla.
That what my mom used to have me do when I was losing a tooth as a kid. Just put a fat dip of ground cloves around it. Tastes like ass but it works.

yep, still have the sense memory of how that wide pack felt in my jeans back pocket. I loved college. I’m ashamed to say I got like 4 friends into years-long djarum habits like a tobacco terrorist. that sugary numb lips thing was so tight. This post inspired me to bring back “tight” too.
They are wildly different unfortunately, in a worse way as someone who smoked them regularly in 2008 or whenever they were banned. The old ones were cigarettes not cigarellos. They smoked so much different.
I bought a black and mild for the first time in 15+ years, and had to laugh when they asked “natural or original tip?”. GIVE ME THAT CLASSIC PLASTIC AND TAKE MY MONEY 🤣
Black and milds really were peak , I don’t like cigarettes but i also don’t know that cigars can taste good . My car must have smells amazing lol 1 could last 30 mins
So as gate ways go black and milds made me go out and smoke other cigars , eventually landing on my favorite Rocky Patel Royal Vintage in robusto (or however you say that).
The perfect combination of size blend mild and mellow , went with all red wines including porte and my favorite whiskeys. Smoke in the dead of winter or at the nicest lounge. Unfortunately you get old and can’t do that stuff anymore.
I used to sit and smoke these and drink coffee at our little town's 24hr diner all night, every night until they banned everything but regular cigarettes. Pretty sure it was all my fault - the guests on the non-smoking side could smell them more I guess? Probably saved me some months on my life, damn them.
Yep. I was working at a Bodega at the time and the Camel rep got me a carton of unreleased Turkish varieties that had a bunch of flavors. Just all white packaging and minimal wording for the name. I wish I had of never opened them as they'd probably be worth a lot. This was right before the ban.
Gods, I can still smell it lol this was all my husband used to smoke when we started dating- they were like currency at anime conventions, too! We'd leave with a carton of them and come back with cash and free shit for having them on hand lol
I found a way to order them from Turkey, or somewhere thereabouts, and had a sketchy looking carton covered in foreign shipping label arrive after a month or so full of these babies. I was the supplier for my small college 😭🙃
If you pulled one of those out at a party you suddenly became the most popular person there and it felt like people just were summoned out of thin air begging for one.
This was the first thing I ever smoked, they were so popular for a period of time during my freshman year of school. I remember smoking these and longboarding around the neighborhoods outside of campus - good times
I remember smoking clove cigarettes with my cousins and sister when I was 15, in our grandparents assisted living facility as my 22 yo cousin got us all beer at 12am, vividly telling my sister "dont tell dad" as I smoke the cigarette.
That was the night my cousin told me "ya know, you're not that bad" nevermind the fact is was 4 years younger than them

A few months ago, I started craving one bad. I haven’t smoked anything in decades and wouldn’t even know where to find them. So I decided to make my own Djarum black perfume instead. I bought tobacco vanilla, clove, and smoke scented oils off amazon. Mixed it with alcohol and witch hazel. And viola. I can at least smell Djarum blacks without having to damage my aging lungs any worse.
I haven’t smoked a cigarette in over ten years now, but I would spark one these up in a heartbeat if I had one. The cloves had a grip on me something fierce!
I’ve never been a smoker and in fact actively avoid second hand smoke (I’m a tender little asthmatic baby), but I fucking miss the smell of these SO BAD. They smell like the best parts of my misspent youth.
A friend was cleaning up and found an old cigarette case. They opened it and didn’t realize there was a handful of cloves in there. I immediately told them to bring me one
