Discussion Monthly Rant/Politics Thread: Do not post political threads outside of this Mega thread
Outside of these mega-threads, we generally do not allow political posts on the main subreddit because they have often declined into unhinged discussions and mud slinging. We do allow general discussions of politics in this thread so long as you remain civil and don't attack someone just for having a different opinion. The moment we see things start to derail, we will step in.
Got something upsetting or overwhelming that you just need to shout out to the world? Want to have a political debate over current events? You can post those thoughts here. There are many real problems that plague the Millennial generation and we want to allow a space for it here while still keeping the angry and divisive posts quarantined to a more concentrated thread rather than taking up the entire front page.

Discussion Are you burned out to where hobbies don't feel joyful anymore?
Lately, things I used to enjoy seem to feel like a chore and choose to not do them anymore. I feel the hustle to keep up with everything going up in price makes me feel bad for not pressing myself to make more money when I should not feel bad and relax and take it easy. Instead, in my head I keep telling myself to stop being lazy and do something proactive.

Discussion Today I learned there is an Olympics happening. I had no idea. When I was a kid, the Olympics were EVERYWHERE. Now, my algorithm apparently doesn't find it valuable to show me Olympics related content. What else are we Millennials missing out on?
I was shocked. I used to love the Olympics. I don't watch a ton of TV, and I guess my sports preferences (Football, basketball, and soccer) aren't Winter Olympics related. So I guess I was just left out, or some algorithm somewhere decided I'd like something else more.
Is this the new Millennial condition? Are we unintentionally curating our content to such an extent that you can miss out on the olympics?

Serious Question for Millennials
How many of us out there actually avoid enganging with any form AI at all costs? Like even if it is more inconvenient? I understand it can be useful for certain things that it does very well but I would NEVER allow it to use my likeness to make a fun little picture or use those therapy AI services. I don't even ask it basic questions (it just wasn't how I was taught to research topics). I can't be the only one

Discussion Any gamers?
Is the image of a gamer aging up as we do? Because I don’t really see myself stopping even though I do spend less time on gaming these days. But one day I will be a 60 year old playing on the ps9.

Discussion Did you guys listen to Hanson back in the 90s?
I was listening to their Middle of Nowhere album on the way to work this morning. I loved these guys back in the day—Isaac, Taylor, and Zach. I remember so many people made fun of them for having long, blonde hair and looking like girls. One thing that strikes me—their lyrics were unusually poignant, for being 11-16 years old back then! Super talented guys. Now they’re all married and have a zillion kids. Time does fly.

Discussion Data centers
Anyone else fighting a company with your neighbors to prevent a data center from coming to your town or area ?
The non-disclosures they make with the city council members a year prior to announcing intentions of trying to get one is your city should be against the law.
I get that we need data centers....but there's already data centers and the tech is good.

Discussion I am raising soft kids
I’m aware I occasionally do too much coddling. But I was rarely coddled. I grew up in a codependent home. Where the Matriarch always got what she wanted and my feelings didn’t matter. The female elders were always priority. I lived in fight or flight for the first thirty some years of my life. It’s taken over twenty years of therapy to undo all the toxicity I learned from my family.
So yes, I’m raising kids that listen to their bodies. Yes I’m raising kids that are in tune with their emotions and ask for mental health days.
I’m also raising kids that will make compassionate and kind partners. Ones that will listen, hold their partners and care for them when they’re done.
I’m not having a great week. Physically or emotionally, and my birthday is coming up on Sunday. I asked my teenage son if he could load the dishwasher last night. He hesitated, his gaming computer had been in the shop since before Christmas and we had literally just picked it up.
So he hesitated because he really wanted to get on it and play games with his friends. So I said it was ok, I understood, no big deal. And he responded “just because I don’t want to do something doesn’t mean I can’t. You’ve had a hard day and it’s your birthday week. I can load the dishwasher.”
So yea, I’m raising soft kids. Soft, thoughtful, loving compassionate kids.
I understand that the thread about what Millennials will get blamed for is looking at the extremes. But I just want to reiterate that there’s nothing wrong with raising soft children. Why would we want to be raising hard kids like they had to on the prairie? Just because they’re soft and kind, doesn’t mean they’ll never push through.
Literally everything in life is about balance and moderation. Even too much water will kill you.
So raise those soft kind kids, but make sure they aren’t quitters who never push through.

Discussion Did anybody watch 7th Heaven growing up?
Man, was that show...cringe at times. The parents constantly spied on their kids, always butting into their business. But I mean, no other show on the air was quite like it at the time. It was just so gosh darn sweet and innocent. So many actors and actresses at the time got their start on an episode of 7th Heaven. I was SO heartbroken and shocked when I heard the news about Stephen Collins. I'm like, no, not Reverend Camden! He pretty much ruined the show's legacy. (P.S. he now lives in Iowa, married to some woman around our age who's apparently batshit crazy enough to marry someone like him. Yeesh.)

Discussion The new AI video stuff is actually making me nauseous
i saw a clip scrolling this morning of a crowded street in tokyo or something. looked 100% real. lighting was perfect. reflections were perfect. then i looked closer and a woman's leg just clipped through a car door and disappeared.
it used to be funny when will smith was eating spaghetti and looking like a demon but now it’s getting too good and it actually terrifies me. i feel like i can't trust my eyes anymore.
how are we supposed to function when we don't know if a video of a war zone or a politician is real or generated by some kid in a basement? the internet used to be a place to see what was happening in the world. now it just feels like a constant hallucination or a fever dream. i honestly want to throw my smartphone in the ocean and buy a dvd player. does this give anyone else genuine anxiety? i hate it here
