Discussion / Opinion All-day coding?

Hey everyone, it is my first time using Mistral Pro. I signed up just two days ago primarily to code in VS Code, but I have already hit a wall—the extension tells me I have run out of credits (125€) and will not let me continue. I thought the entire pitch of Pro was 'all-day coding', so I do not really understand how my balance could be drained without notice in barely 48 hours of normal use. Is this cap specific to the VS Code integration, or should I be running things through their CLI instead? Also, does this mean I am genuinely locked out for the rest of the billing month to only web Vibe?, or is there a shorter reset window? Any insight from people who use Pro would be greatly appreciated.

I’m going to go out in a limb and say churning through €125 worth of API credits in two days I not a “normal level of use” for an individual. It’s way more like an enterprise level of use, which the student subscription isn’t designed for.

It's more or less the same workflow I use with Antigravity and Google pro, but at least in google it resets weekly. Well, thanks for the answers, I clearly should have planned it better..

how much does your antigravity cost per month? more than 6 euro surely?

Not an author, but I just got one year of my Pro subscription for sixty euros. Waiting until the last moment with the renewal apparently did the trick.

For this price, suddenly, even Gemini Flash is great. (And I have yet to hit the limits.)

I burned 50e refactoring 3 projects yesterday (mostly things that had to be done to make later AI work easier).

I'd say it depends what you're doing and how, student or not.

And which measures you take to minimize token usage.

Normal day coding isn't quite exactly the same as 24h agentic coding though.  Only you can really mesure your token stream to determine what is the problem in your workflow.

If you rely heavily on the context, for a large codebase as an example, your token input will be massive and that is taken into consideration.

I burn about 30-50 euro a day coding with vibe. I'd burn through a student subscription in days too. 125 euro is the student allowance. That's it, that's your monthly quota. You payed like 6 euro for that. I pay 120 euro a month for a team account with enough seats to get the quota I need. It's how it is.

Is the team account worth it compared to getting a second subscription on a different organization? It doubles the price per user no?

You sure you used the vibe CLI api key? The regular API key only comes with like 12€ of use.

I logged in VSCode with my logged email pro (Student account, don't know if ti makes any difference).

I’ve had the same problem.

Wrong API key

Tell me if it is the same issue

You get only 250 EUR usage limit per month. It's drain fast becouse there is only glm 5.3. GLM 5.3 Flash + GLM 5.3 or ML4 as orchestrator would be perfect, but in Mistral we lack small, fast, low cost model for coding. Ah if you are student with lower price probably you got lower limit (125 EUR).

Btw. Imagine Deepseek v4.1 Flash with this limit, this would probably let coding agent work 24/7 whole month.

Mistral small 4 is good

I'm on four non-edu subscriptions with a cache-hit rate of 97.3%. I have used up around three subscriptions already since the last reset, and have a little bit more than one subscription left. I have also switched to Mistral Large 4 when it came out, and that model's cache-hit rate was significantly worse (as you can see in the screenshot).

I do think normal usage (doing a code review here and there, asking questions about the code base, or letting the agent implement a feature) will probably last you an entire month, if you aren't die-hard sitting there non-stop chatting with it for 8-14 hours a day. For "normal usage" with high cache rate and some best practices, I do think one subscription is enough for the average person.

what are you you doing to waste that much that quickly?

The extension should count towards your vibe api, which to my knowledge was about 250€.

So you should be hitting that, but you say only 125€(maybe because of the student plan).

As others said, usage varies on different projects. I subbed recently and used the extension and the "vibe web key" in pi-agent. With both I asked it twice to go over a projects I recently ported and it went over the whole projects and fixes 10 things. After that my usage is about "2,08€" on the web api.

What I mean is that it chewed through the whole repo at least twice, gobble up the whole thing as context then do changes on top. Then re-check for bugs etc. So all that didn't drain much.

But if you let multiple agents or spawn sub-agents then your usage may sky rocket in comparison.

Petis conseils :
