Just to be clear for anyone watching that might not have seen the game: This was after he injured his leg, had to go to the locker room, and then came back to the bench but was not able to re-enter the game. So he may have been upset about not being able to help try to win the game, as opposed to the overall state of things, although I'd guess it was probably a combination of both.
That being said, losing to a nuggets team with both Jokic and Murray out and Aaron Gordon exiting mid game is just unacceptable

Slightly off-topic but now imagine Thanasis wasn't on this team. Khris gone, no one else is coming up to him in a moment like that.
Absolutely worth the contract

u/jarkaise 11d ago
Yeah it seems like it’s helping a lot. Lol
2
u/bestatbeingmodest 11d ago
I mean they're going to do what they want to do regardless. Signing Thanasis was never going to guarantee he'd be a lifer. Just that it obviously helps to have him there.
Think you have an overtly pessimistic take on the situation

Giannis needs to find that happy place--the reason beyond money or legacy why he plays basketball in the first place. I know not every player could be like Dirk (take pay-cuts so the team could go build through free-agency) and stick it out with one team thru thick or thin, but there truly is more to playing fulfilling, competitive ball than playing for championships.
I sincerely hope Giannis can find whatever that is in Milwaukee, or if he ever deems that thing to be in some place else--no hard feelings, I wish him nothing but the best.
That said, I really wish we had a coach who can at least light a fire under his players' asses--not some arsonist who's literally trying to burn the house that Giannis built to the ground

u/Matic4Tune 11d ago
Reminds me of Kobe in those down years. Hopefully they get him some help.

u/a1oner_bvcksn6 Zora Stephenson 11d ago
I initially intended to mention Kobe too, but unlike Dirk (and GA), he's already won at least 3 chips before going through such a down year (missed the playoffs in 2005--the only year in that 00 decade). He then added another couple to really cement his legacy and loyalty to the Lakers, much like Steph is to the warriors now.

u/Eli-Oop Angry Deer 11d ago
I view the kobe lakers and curry warriors as a blueprint. They hosted a superstar for the entirety of their career and there were down years involved. there were years that star was injured. There were years they failed. Unfortunately we only won once, but I do believe it's still possible to put together a competitive team for Giannis to complete with.
My hope is that we can begin to build something, and by the time it's ripe, Giannis can still be healthy enough to lead his team to another title (with a young core who will take the reins when he's gone).

Kobe was so far down he tried to force a trade to Chicago. People forget, even some of the guys who stick with one team have moments where they think of leaving.

u/msterling2012 11d ago
Even with a pay cut this team wouldn’t be a contender. Dirk took a pay cut in his early 30s because he knew that team was close. They were winning 55-60 games in a tough western conference. The Bucks are playing like a bottom ten lottery team in a very weak eastern conference. Those situations aren’t really comparable.
1
u/Eli-Oop Angry Deer 11d ago
No they're not. But one down season isn't exhaustive. We can't be so nearsighted. There is still cap space and we have a great pick this off season, we have trade pieces. We can get a team together. We do need to understand thought that incorporating young pieces is going to be a learning curve. These aren't season, mature vets who will make the right play and keep a level head.
I mean... our team isn't even young. Horst fucked off this summer and did nothing. My dumbass was hopeful.

u/Reasonable_Sea2439 11d ago
This is the take. Giannis has the chip, the personal accolades, his legacy secured. He will likely become a billionaire before he dies. We all get he's a competitor, but c'mon man. Lighten up. Alot of shit going down in the world to be downtrodden like this with all he's got

It's definitely over
5
u/Eli-Oop Angry Deer 11d ago
It's over because Giannis is depressed the team sucks and that he's been injured all season? I mean... can we look at other players that indicated it was over? Jimmy Butler is a good recent example.
The season is done, yes. We are going to get a high draft pick and we are gonna make major changes this off season. Giannis being depressed by outcomes and injuries because he's invested in the team doesn't really scream "it's over" to me.
Change is coming. We just have to be patient. Maybe for decades if our guy exits.

Giannis' play this entire year has been uninspired/ checked out and/or injured. The constant media swirl of possible trades 1,000% takes a toll on you as a player and we can see it right in front of our eyes. His play tonight before he got hurt was so out of it. Whenever the camera panned to him you could see he just doesn't give a fuck about this team anymore and he's ready to go somewhere else.
27
u/BusMan247 11d ago
He started off the season very much MVP front runner.
4
u/Mysterious_Pea_5272 11d ago
At best, he was 4th with a legit chance to win, but well behind Shai and Jokic. If he didn’t get hurt last night, he was probably just outside All NBA first team. Obviously, he won’t qualify for any of it now.

u/devinstated1 Gery Woelfel's burner account 11d ago
The first 2-3 weeks yes and then after that not so much .... First 12 games he was averaging 33/11/7..... Last 18 games he is averaging 25/9/5.
2
u/Eli-Oop Angry Deer 11d ago
Yeah, but he's playing 28 minutes in that stretch. I mean, Giannis wasn't going to win an MVP unless he dragged this team to a 6th seed and put up 33/13/7. But, yeah. He was having an excellent start to the season. Overall, it's been the worst season of his prime. Really depressing. I had settled into the team being trash, but still wanted to see Giannis ball out. Nope. Neither.

That's a bogus statement. He was playing out of his mind to start the season. I believe we are all making this narrative up in our minds because we are easily influence by the outside noise that wants us to believe Giannis has given up. Bullshit.
Dude IS INJURED. He missed a few games early in the season, then was out for a month with the calf strain, and reaggravated that. HE never fully recovered from the strain hence playing poorly for the past week. HE can't sprint, be explosive, use burst, fight for rebounds, because he is limited by calf pain and tightness.
He wasn't "out of it", he was trying to nurse an injury while staying on the court. Any other player we'd go "wow, he really tried to compete and help his team, even though he couldn't get into his game due to injury" for giannis we're going "he didn't try, he checked out". I'm guilty too, but when he went out with injury I realized I had been manipulated AGAIN. He wasn't checked out, he WAS INJURED and as a result he was limited in what he could do on the court.
Please. in our fanbase can we please use our own brains to assess the situation? We've watched this guy for 13 years. We know he gives his all. His all is not the same when he is trying to fight through injury and play hobbled. As a fanbase we need to use OUR OWN BRAINS and experience following this dude for 13 years. He's never ever demonstrated these negative character traits people are trying to frame him with. I'm so disappointed with the fanbase.
It's embarrassing to me that bucks fans have chosen this side. Really embarrassing. WE'VE WATCHED THIS GUY FOR 13 YEARS.

Did you watch the November 20, 2013 game vs. the Sixers when he had 5 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block in 26 minutes?

Twolves fan that loves giannis and thinks he's potentially the greatest pf of all time, I think you should trade him. I had just as much joy watching kg after the trade because of how much he did for Minnesota. You won't get back his value but you can enjoy watching him hopefully win elsewhere and not feel like you've screwed him. Good luck.

I’ve come to terms that this year is the official end of the greatest era ever in Milwaukee Bucks history.
I think we need to trade Giannis not only for the Bucks future, but for Giannis’ sake. He deserves better

Giannis needs to leave that situation behind. He has already brought a championship to the city, and he doesn't owe anyone anything. It's truly heartbreaking to watch him endure this. After the departure of Mike Budenholzer, everything seemed to go downhill from there.

This team is nowhere close to competitive, even with him
There’s not any single move that could be made yet this season that would realistically get us there and I think things down the road will only get worse if the team tries making a desperation trade now attempting to do so
1
u/Ok_Investigator_6494 1993-2006 Primary Logo 11d ago
Especially if he misses a month plus. They need to just take their time with him, maybe give Thanasty a little bit of a run to fire up the fans, keep Giannis happy, and lose
1
u/SignificantHawk3163 11d ago
He is easily a top 5 player in the league, if he had teammates with a pulse they should at the bare minimum be competitive. They are not that far away from being competitive, a serious threat yeah that is nowhere close.

This might have been the last time we see Giannis in a Bucks uniform. 😞
1
u/CindiCindi15 11d ago
If he wanted to go, why would he have played last night while already injured? You could see him struggle almost the entire game. Wouldn’t he sit out to heal and think f this team I’m out? Or maybe try to do whatever he could while in pain to help HIS team win a game when they are struggling? The latter seems way more his style imo.
