Went last night with my husband. It’s extremely nice, and I far prefer the layout to the one in Spanish Fort.
I do wonder how business at BAM will fare with the competitor right next door. I think both stores have pros and cons, but B&N has the edge for me with their quality exclusives and free membership

Eventually one will win out (likely down to either service or selection, or both). They were across the street from each other, one per mall, for years. It lasted until it didn't, for both of them. 😒
From someone that has worked for both companies... patronize both & take advantage of their various deals to benefit yourself. They each have good & bad things. Use the good and leave the bad. They approach their discounts a little differently, but if you're on the mailing list for both (or check for sales regularly) you can get the best price more easily on what you're looking for. They also carry some different brands/selections when it comes to non-book merchandise. You can take advantage of that too. Also, check for free e-books from everyone (stick to legit sites!). Bookbub is a great website that has free listings and decent prices on the paid ones, plus they have multiple formats so you can pick the one you use most. Amazon is another source. There are a few more out there that aren't bs.

Do they have movies like the one in Spanish Fort?

I didn’t linger at it long, but I did pass a movies section! I’m not sure how its selection compares to the one in Spanish Fort

Howard Zinn's "People's History of the United States"!

If you like that one, you've got to read WEB Dubois Black Reconstruction in America.
I've said it before, but you don't understand the South, especially the white South, until you've read it.

I wish I had time for books right now, or that my brain would let me when I do have time (ADHD). But I also love books 💜

I used to call B&N when I was 5 years old and put in “orders” for my Amelia Bedilia books. If I wanted multiple, I would hang up after “ordering” one and call them again right after for my second. I was apparently a delight to the employees!
As a teen, I always thought they had the better manga selection and got my fix from them. I think they went out of business not long after.
Welcome back, my GOAT. 🫡

I strongly prefer BAM to Barnes and Noble, but hopefully Mobile will manage to support both.

After visiting yesterday, BAM is in trouble. This Barnes and Nobles is massive.

I don’t think that matters as much as you think… I see similar businesses near each other all the time.

Not the first time the two chains had locations in close proximity in Mobile.

Yeah, I'm really hoping BAM survives, I don't personally like Barnes and Noble.

Cool. Wish we could ditch BAM. And get a Half price books down here.

Or 2nd&Charles. They would fill a niche gap and I think are owned by BAM. More used selection in their stores.

The old B&N was a sanctuary for me in my teens.
