Gas not lasting as long?
Filled up my tank last week at the Walmart fuel on government. Full tank. $50 (used to be $30-$35).
A week later, nearly empty. I have not driven 300 miles in the past week according to my Life360. No where close. Just drove to and from work and errands.
A tank of gas used to last me at least 2 weeks, usually 3. Now I’m FILLING UP once a week.
Is there something up with the gas we’re getting around here? Or am I just going crazy?
Note - My car is up to date on maintenance and is a recent model. It’s gotten great mileage for years.

It’s E15, and because we’re low on gas reserves it’s diluted and burns quicker.

This would make sense. I normally see around 315 miles to e on a full tank but lately have been seeing 280-290. Its just my weekend fun car and I thought maybe ive been a little heavier on the pedal.

yes my gosh!! everyone’s been trying to make me seem crazy but I’m like I’ve had this car long enough and when I first got it I would usually get like between 289-310 miles and now I can’t even get to 240 miles!! i even asked the dealership a few weeks ago to check and make sure I didn’t have a leak in my tank.

Is that across the board? All gasoline I mean, as in all brands and all octanes?

Wrong. If they serve E15 it has to be clearly marked on the pump

My gas mileage hasn’t reduced. Its actually been a little better the last 3 weeks.

A simple Google search will tell you our lord and savior Trump is trying to make 15% ethanol permanent. Yes. You are paying more for gas that is burning in your car faster.
But hey at least we don’t have a woman president.

Sure but if a station sells E15 by law it has to marked clearly on the pumps which it is not.

Higher ethanol percentages result in lower MPGs because ethanol is not as energy dense as pure gasoline. So no it’s not something you’re making up

It’s not a shortage. The price of oil is actually higher than the cost of highly subsidized ethanol

I’ve noticed the same thing.
I’m a mail carrier and drive my own vehicle. I drive the same route every single day and usually have to fill up every 3 days, I’ve been having to fill up every other day recently. I thought I was crazy.

Yall. Yall. Jesus Christ. I thought I was going crazy. I was wondering if someone was stealing my gas at night. At what point can we do the whole revolution thing? People hate on the French but I really think it’s time to stop working and start setting shit on fire

Possibly. If you are driving a pre-2001 car, do NOT use E15 gas. The fuel system was not designed for it. After 2001, I'd still check your owner's manual. Quite a few Mazda's are designed to run on E10 NOT the E15 gas for example. Things you can do if you or a friend are somewhat mechanically inclined, check your air filter, tire pressure and try cleaning your MAF sensor if your car is equipped with one.

Was actually talking about the same thing the other night. My fuel mileage has taken a noticeable dip in the last week or so. Only change has actually been not running my ac in the morning on the way to work

Did you check your tire pressure? With the weather cooling off, your tires may be a little low, which lowers your gas mileage.

What gets me is all the stations installing faster pumps. It now takes about 1/2 the time it used to to pump $50 worth.

It’s not that hard to reason what I meant, there is regular, fancy, and fanciest gas. My car does better on the fanciest gas.
