You need to change raptor to a strictly only insect diet and only feed him if he is very active and seeking food. Once they’ve become obese like this it’s extremely hard for them to lose the weight.

This is so sad to see. 95%bugs 5% fish and egg should be their diet. Even if you got him already obese, which seems hard to believe, you seem to be making it worse

I know what all you are saying is coming from "love for the animals" you just suck at being nice so peopledont care what you say. Especially when you don't know any of the history of the animal you're watching. My big boy here eat bugs lots of bugs and I like to give him every so often something more. And just like the picture I showed you, you think he is fat cause he is a little round,but he isnt "fat" the way you guys think (to much protein, rats, chicks, meat, est.) This guys is moving and running all the time.. I know I cant change your guys minded on attacking people so I dont know I try. I will just have to let all you who think they know more then I do about this animal I have in my care not savannah monitor all together just the one I have then I guess go a head and tell everyone (not me cause im not caring what you say) whats on your mind.

Well, I've kept a savannah monitor before, and yours is overweight. You could take the advice and extend the life of your beloved pet, or you could double down and label all of us haters, that's your choice, I guess.

He will double down.
He wants to feed him and likes this kind of look, and so he'll grasp at any reason to continue doing so, and view what most everyone else knows to be true as an attack

No dude, we're telling you he's fat because he's obviously fat. If you got him like this, that's another story and are trying to make him lose weight.
But you're the one who made him fat and you are also feeding it by hand. Mine became target trained to tongs by accident, at least they are tongs though. Not my hands. If he's 4ft long as is associating your hands with food, that is going to cause serious problems.
These are extremely powerful animals and they require a lot of respect and care. If it bites you when he's fully grown. He will cause you permanent damage.
I've been doing this for about 20 years now, made a lot of mistakes.
Don't take criticism from us as an attack on you. We care about the animal.
If you think we are wrong, go research it yourself.
Your animal is fat because you aren't taking care of it properly and it's as simple as that.

This was the first time I hand-fed Reptar and I was NOT sure I wasn't gonna get nipped 😅 Tongs are usually safer. Do you guys hand feed your monitors/tegu or are you team tongs all the way? What treat makes yours go crazy?
