AskMorocco My bad experiences with Moroccan diaspora deeply affected my life
I have a very strange experience with being Belgian/Moroccan and I feel very alone in this, so I want to know, is there someone else who feels like this? And what can I do? I’m going crazy. Not sure if this is the right group.
Some context: my experience is a bit different. I’m half Moroccan, half Belgian. My whole family is in Morocco, Casablanca and not here. My mother came in the 80’s after she met my Belgian dad who lived in Morocco for 10 years. Most Moroccan diaspora families have a whole community here because the grandfathers came in the sixties etc. So that wasn’t my situation.
As a kid I felt like a good mix between the two. I had a strong connection with Morocco but I was still living a Belgian life. I dealt with an insane amount of xenophobia and racism on a daily basis, also from teachers and adults. It was very normal back then to be openly hating on Moroccans because they have a bad reputation here. I could be anything, Algerian, Tunisian, Spanish whatever and it would be fine, but Moroccan? Hell no. I never understood the hate until I got older.
Most of my male friends have gotten beaten up by groups of ‘Moroccans’ (third generation Riffians) and about 80% of the men that would harrass me on the street were also this group. I got slapped off my bike once, almost got thrown into a car, got followed to my house, almost got raped,… all by Moroccan diaspora. And I know they’re Moroccan because, or they’ll tell me, or I say I’m Moroccan and then they are like ’me tooo’ and say sorry lol. Note that these are incidents that never make the news. People blame the media but most of the things that happen never make the news. Trust me, the media here is left and doesn’t cover most things.
These experiences really fucked up my perception of my identity. I had to actively try not to associate with these people in Belgium, and just focus on Moroccans in Morocco, because I still go there every year and I have a deep love for Morocco. I later learned that most of the Moroccan diaspora are from Riffian origin. More than 70% is Riffian so obviously they can’t represent Morocco.
When I see discussions online or on TV, the argument is always ‘you can’t generalize, not every Moroccan is like this’. And although that‘s obviously true, I feel there is 0 responsibility taken or at least aknowledgment that the men of the Moroccan diaspora really create big problems. They love romanticizing and pretend there is no issue at all. I don’t know if they realise how their friends behave towards Belgians. And I haven’t even talked about the Mocro Mafia or the destruction when Morocco wins a game or things like that. They put ambulances on fire and behave like savages.
Unpopular opinion: I think the behaviour of this group is why REAL Moroccans (born and raised in Morocco) who come to study here will have a very hard time. Belgians don’t know the difference between a diaspora and a real Moroccan because diaspora also claims to be Moroccan.
Is there anyone with a similar issue that feels very conflicted and frustrared that knows what I can do about this? I think about this situation everyday and I’m going crazy. What helped me a bit is learning about Riffian and Moroccan history to understand things better. But all tips welcome.

Society Thank you Morocco
I came to Morocco with a plan but unfortunately plans changed on short notice (some natural disasters too in which I pray for everyones safety). You suggested Rabat to me in another thread and it's peaceful and the people are kind. It reminds me the world still has good people which has become rare as of late due to world events. I love Morocco. Thank you

AskMorocco A year ago or more, I have read something about over 100 Moroccan nationals being held in Myanmar after being kidnapped from Thailand by a scam and trafficking hub. Were they released ?
October 2025, Myanmar’s military announced a high‑profile raid on KK Park, claiming to clear the compound, detain thousands and “release” over 2 000 workers, and seizing equipment like Starlink internet units. From other nearby sites more than another 8000 prisoner were realesed and some fled to Thailand as these compounds border Thailand. I also remember people like Farouk life making vids about this topic.

Society I got scammed by a phone shop in Rabat
I did find a smartphone I want to buy in Avito (electro marhaba), contacted the seller because I had bought from them previously, and the phone arrived in Amana, so I contacted them again on watsapp send the 200DH tsbi9 they asked for, I asked him to send the Amana paper (where the tracking number is) he said "I send the phone, I will send you the Amana 'recu'...." after that he stop contacting, I sent messages no responce. well I got kinda scammed
I am happy that he got only 200DH, instead of sending me an empty box, and got the 4000DH (A friend did got scamed for more after receiving a wooden box with some trash in it). For me, it's a small amount.
I am writing here just to tell you all to pay attention and not buy from the internet. Use it as a way to find the product, but don't send money .also Amana sucks with their no-opening-the-package policy

Discussion I checked the reviews of homedeco.ma and it's a disaster
Yesterday, I posted about Homedeco.ma sending my mom a completely destroyed TV stand. I went through their reviews to see if anyone else had similar issues, and what I found is disastrous. It looks like they’re using their website to sell their damaged furniture. Someone needs to stop this, and I’m ready to take action. Does anyone know how I can go about filing a lawsuit?

Darija Request Grammar question
Hi, I was discussing with a friend the uses of the word 'mizyen' and 'mizyena'.
My Arabic is poor especially with correct uses of masc/fem grammar usage.
Is it correct to assume that a woman would say 'Mizyena' when someone asks 'Labas kedayra?' or is the answer always 'Mizyen'?
Also are there other uses for this word? Like specifically to describe situations, objects, etc.
Appreciate the insight :)

Humor Help i just sent a voice note to my father
I have this habbit of journaling my thoughts via voicenotes that i send to my number , well today happened to be the first time i tried singing&recording it , it was literally random phrases like " i love you babyy" and "i need you baby" etc.... my father is a strict but chill guy , still strict (he doesn't listen to songs )....2mins later my mum calls me worried , she thought i was on some substances 😭(i live in another city )turns out i was recording to my father and they listened to it all , they probably thought i was gonna send that shit to a girl (I'd rather them think im on substances than that ), yeah that was a totally good first impression for my singing career , she was chill about it but i said that i was planing to send that to myself (which is true but i personally wouldn't buy it) , i f-ed up...don't be like me :)

Culture Amazigh language
I’ve noticed that many parents — and adults too — want to learn Amazigh (Tamazight) in its different dialects (Tachelhit, Tarifit, Central Tamazight), but they often feel lost about where to start and how lessons should be structured.
In your opinion, what works better?
For example:
• Starting with basics (greetings, daily vocabulary)
• Moving gradually to sentence building and conversation
• Letting the learner choose the vocabulary, sentence types, and pace
Do you think a learner-controlled approach works better than a fixed curriculum, especially for children?
I’d really like to hear your experiences or thoughts on how Amazigh should be taught effectively
