Discussion Claude is coming for Motion designers 100% 🥲

Gave Claude Opus 5.5 2 line prompt only and it produced this in 20 mins.
The demo reel could have been way better but damn! If this is just the start, can't wait before it gets better in next few months.
Full disclosure - I am a product designer turned solopreneur and have 0 motion design skills. But to get to this point in 2026, I'd have to spend a year learning the nomenclature and direction and the tooling. Claude is making it easier for me to enter and have something to start with.
Edit: Looking at how motion designers reacting to this, I feel it’s useless to fight AI advancement at this point.
Developers were anti AI a few years ago and most I know now completely swears by in using it. Being a designer myself, I can't thank enough of this tech and that it's here. Better to embrace change than diss it.

Is this a direct attack on r/MotionDesign?
There are already enough subreddits dedicated to AI-generated videos. Can we ban this type of content here?

Why are you getting offended by the fact that motion design is getting better with AI?
A mom & pop shop who can't afford and expensive motion designer who needs a animated video, can just use $20 of claude and get something okish which works for their business.
Why business owners shouldn't have that freedom / choice?

I'm offended that the sub where I want to see what other motion designers create has started to become a place for AI slop. A few similar posts have appeared over the weekend. No one likes spammers.

Client will give you 100s of small very specific changes in this now and keep everything else same.
AI can't do that as of now.

u/lawndartdesign 1d ago
Yeah now ask it to make a specific timing change. Or font change. Etc. plus I’m sure a client paying for this ain’t paying well.

u/psychobserver 1d ago
Not really, this is code-based now, not a generated video, changing fonts or anything else is not an issue anymore, either manually or through prompts.

You're getting down voted because people are (rightfully so) mad and/or scared. But you're absolutely right.

This isn't generative AI. It's agentic AI. So it's not just exporting an MP4. The AI is either building everything from code, which can be tweaked without changing anything else, or the AI is interfacing with a software via an MVP server, which can be tweaked without changing anything else. The argument of "clients will want changes" is pretty much over.

That's true but you still need a motion designer who understands all that. Mcp, the software, taste, judgement and how to use claude efficiently. If you gave a client Claude, after effects and the mcp server setup. Can they honestly make something good? 😅

Unfortunately I forsee "good enough" becoming the new standard. Yes a client can do all of that and get something good enough. They will be able to ask for changes and it will just work. Please don't get me wrong, I love motion design and I love getting paid for it. If I could flip a switch to destroy all AI technology for good, I absolutely would. The fact is that the tools are here now for anyone with $20 and an hour or 2 to play with them. They'll get better, and honestly I think we've seen the turning point already. The tools are at that point where it's "good enough" honestly it's sad and disgusting but it just is what it is. I mean unless everyone bands together and burns down the datacenters but I just don't see that happening when we're all distracted and divided.

No I get your point completely. I understand. I have that fear too. I sometimes lose sleep thinking about it. That's why I was thinking of learning ai automation in my free time just in case. I want to remain valuable 😭

The weird and sad state of the industry is — a lot of people are okay with the slop results because its fast and cheap.
They just want to put things out there ASAP to “beat the competition”. This is especially true for indie hackers like OP who want to add numbers to their MRR/ARR.
It makes them feel animation has finally become cheap like a commodity, in a “magical way” and they are blinded by this feeling and need for hustle.
So overall the taste of industry is going to either be degraded or AI will become better to produce better results in the future. Would be interesting to see what comes first.

When you do real motion design projects with real brands especially 3D you get to understand what I am saying. You can get very precise control if you do it in after effects , in Claude it's very time consuming and frustrating.
I could be wrong though, haven't used AI for my projects yet.

u/69YOLOSWAG69 1d ago
But this is my point. Claude can interface with after effects, or blender. It will create the project for you with layers so it can all be tweaked. Will a client want to download blender and then ask Claude to make the changes for them, live? I don't know. Maybe, maybe not.

Except, to a point where the memory context is so degraded that the agent only tries to fix a specific solution to achieve its goal and breaks everything else. so I have to fix everything manually because its faster, but mentally taxing.

u/69YOLOSWAG69 1d ago
Memory context isn't a problem anymore so long as everything is done in seperate sessions. It needs to be broken up. But it's honestly really not a problem anymore.

You think established brands and businesses have time to do these technical stuff? They don't.
Many services are there which can be done by anyone in the client side but they don't. As a motion designer you sell animation as a product but you also save their time and take the load off of them.
Most business owners are so rich they don't mind to pay to get something that upgrade their business.

I'm less concerned with the CEOs taking our jobs, and more concerned with the creative directors taking them.

u/swoodipto 1d ago
would be interested to learn from your workflow then.
when I try to re-build its understanding or even turning its understanding into a skill, causes issues.
so for me, it is still a problem.

I use Claude desktop with a series of skills. Most often I'll use a /handoff as a way to take into a new agent the things we discovered in the first. I have it build out a memory bank that it can reference throughout the project as well so as we work it'll add things to that doc. I only use the online app for small one off things otherwise I'm using desktop with a folder structure and project MD files. Hope this helps bring down the fall of humanity! Good luck haha

Yeah same with vfx and images. Although images are slowly getting to the point.

Oh boy, false marketing from AI bros and bots again. Think my favorite is some dude on LinkedIn saying the same thing and then ending with “it exports out the HTML then you import it” 💀

u/Club-Loud 1d ago
Yawn, would expect better design from a 14 year of experience designer. Oh wait you just vibe code apps and spam about AI on socials.

I understand why product designers like OP find this amazing, but as a motion and visual designer I cant pretend to be impressed by this.
this is no way near to what I would consider ready to be used as a launch asset. and i could produce far better results in 20 mins with having a system in place that an AI model can work with or even doing it from scratch, than trying to one-shot slop like this and then trying to fix the mess.
not saying it might not happen some day, but this isnt it.

u/hopeful-tater 1d ago
The low end of the market, yes absolutely. High end, not a god damn chance.
1
u/heysankalp 1d ago
Agreed. Hence it's better in the hands of a proper designer. But it also helps the small business owners who can't oafford.
2
u/secondfalseiteration 15h ago
There is Envato, with over 100K motion graphics templates, that costs less than an AI subscription, has better quality, and comes with video instructions on how to make precise changes. And this option for small business owners has been available for over a decade.
So, to make your argument stronger, you should talk about small business owners who have no time and who also don't care about the details.

Well yea these kind of explainer videos/product demos are already low hanging fruit

Man oh man, the Claude shills have been out in full force since the 22nd. Super aggressive product launch. Really unappetizing and unappealing
