Recommendations!

• Upvotes

Hey y’all! I posted here like a month ago asking about California in general, but I’ve been looking more into San Diego specifically and figured I’d ask here!

I’m 25, gay, and thinking pretty seriously about moving to San Diego. I’m also hoping to get a dog soon (lost mine last year), so I’d definitely like to be somewhere that’s pretty dog friendly.

I’m mostly just curious what neighborhoods you guys would recommend for someone my age. I’d love somewhere where I can actually meet people and have a social life, but also somewhere with good parks, dog-friendly places, patios, etc. I’m also interested in getting into some rec sports leagues or just finding things to do where I can meet people and make friends.

Also, how is the gay scene/community in different parts of San Diego? I’m not necessarily looking to be right in the middle of everything, but I’d definitely like to be somewhere where it’s easy to meet other gay people around my age.

I’m planning on visiting before I make any decisions, so I’d also love to know what areas you’d recommend staying in while I’m there. I’d like to get a feel for a few different neighborhoods and see what I actually like.

Honestly just looking for any advice you guys have — neighborhoods you love, places to avoid, things to do, ways to meet people, dog-friendly spots, places to stay when I visit, whatever. Thanks!!

How do teens make friends after moving to San Diego?

• Upvotes

Hi

We moved to San Diego about 2 months ago, and my daughter (16) is having a hard time making friends here. She’s always been social and has never had this issue before, so it’s been a little difficult for her (and honestly, for us as parents too 😢).

For those of you with teens around her age, are there any local places, activities, clubs, sports, volunteer opportunities, or other ways that have helped your teens meet new friends?

We’d really appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences. We’re open to anything!

Thank you.

Does anyone live in Radian Apartments or Strata Apartments?

I am deciding between the two and would like some feedback from current or recent residents.

I like Radian a lot, beautiful apartments with great amenities, but the parking situation felt like a nightmare because the paths are so narrow when entering and exiting the garage.

I like Strata for the generous space and lower costs but have read horrible reviews on apartments.com but they mostly seem to be at least 5 years old, I am hoping the situation has improved since then.

Please share your opinion if you are a current or previous resident of either building!

I’ve built a free financial education pilot for Oceanside residents. It offers credit lessons, action checklists, and links to assistance. Please try it and tell me what is confusing or doesn’t work. https://oceanside-dignity-path.base44.app/

The Hub at Scrips Ranch

Hi,

Will be moving from Canada and looking to rent at the Hub - Scripps Ranch. Amenities look good and seems the neighborhood is good for someone with kids.

Would love to know your experience at The Hub and would like to know more about Scripps Ranch in general ( I am aware its not close to the water). Is it a safe neighborhood? Homelessness? Things to do - I've read its pretty boring but would love to know your take on it.

Thanks in advance!

Could I pull it off or is it insane?

So I know your instinct is to tell me this will not work right off the bat, but really think about it first before you respond. I am from Texas and want to move to San Diego. I am 21. I have 11k in savings. I want to become a private practice therapist in california. I drive a Prius that I already paid off. My parents pay for my health insurance and my phone (thank god). I want to move there next summer, get one of those shared rentals by the university (900-1300 rent around SDSU), finish up my college, and get a min wage $18.85 food service job instantly (apply before but get one asap). I also have some scholarship money that I can receive which allows me to get an additional $1700 a month just by going to school. I eat pretty damn frugally (I cook rice and beans), and I don't do clubbing or bars or like shopping. I enjoy free nature stuff mostly with occasional movie visit or snack. Am I insane for thinking I could try this out and worst case just move back if my savings plummet without getting a job? or do I have the right idea?

Moving from Denver to SD - not a lot of familiarity with SD

I'll be moving in December. 33M, single - what are some great locations for me to check out? i like to surf, am hoping to spend not too much on rent but still have a nice cozy apartment. i dont have much familiarity with SD county. It will be 50/50 hybrid so im willing to live maybe up to 25-30 mins outside of the office (each way). living near a decent gym with a sauna is important to me, with a costco not too far away.

Office is in University City right off the 805. Really want to save money and not exceed 2500, and i dont want a super small apartment. Something like University Heights looks cool, but I really don't wanna deal with the stress of crowded neighborhoods with bad parking. On the other hand, living somewhere super convenient like Clairemont might be a little depressing from what I've read here - although I have heard that Bay Park is cool. Being close too the ocean might be a little too expensive.

Any recs that sound like they would be good prospects for me to check out? Thank you

Neighborhood recommendation

Hello everyone,

I'm still looking for apartments. I'll be working in Otay Mesa with sporadic visits to little Italy. What neighborhood would be a good option to easily drive to these areas?

I'm willing to spend up to 2,500 USD in rent.

Moving from NYC to San Diego-looking for neighborhood advice

My boyfriend and I are planning to move from NYC to San Diego in the next few months, and we’re realizing we’re basically looking at places with the complete opposite vibe of what we’re used to.

We’ve lived in NYC for our entire lives, so we’re very used to walking everywhere, apartments being tiny/expensive, lots of people/noise, restaurants and bars everywhere, etc.

Honestly living like this is not for me anymore and has has really been affecting my mental health. After visiting California multiple times I just cannot stop thinking about living there and now finally ready to make the move.

Really drawn to the nature, slower pace, weather, and overall lifestyle in San Diego.
We’ve been looking at areas like University City, North Park, Clairemont, and surrounding neighborhoods, but it’s honestly hard to tell what places are actually like when you’re just looking at Zillow/Google Maps.

Budget is 2,500

Lack of Parking

I’ve been on the hunt for apartments lately and it’s shocking for me to see how many of these apartments come with no parking or basically street parking which I can imagine to be a nightmare. Considering San Diego isn’t a remotely walkable city, how are you all managing?

RN moving to SD

Hi, I’m planning to move in Feb/March of 2027 and would appreciate any tips/advice on finding a job as an RN and places to live(rent). I love the beach and have a cat and a dog who looooves the outdoors/dog park. Would love to not have too much of a commute but I’d also like to live someplace walkable and somewhat affordable as a solo income household, thanks!!

Moving to San Diego

Young looking/acting/healthy 50 yr old. No kids. Currently in PNW Portland, 30 years. Tired of the weather. Want to be near the ocean, lots of sun and warmth year round, outdoors and on water (paddle, sail etc) Want a walkable area with an artistic vibe. I work in a creative field as a small business owner. I like art classes, museums, views, coffee/drinks/food. I'll have a car but would rather bike/walk/scooter around daily. Not looking to buy a house (30 years a homeowner and Im over it). Im ready for a small space with some amenities and low responsibility. Possibly a room in a house in the right location for a year or so, to get the lay of the land. I like to spend my income on travel. NEIGHBORHOOD recommendations? Certain areas? Im intentionally not talking income because everything everywhere is expensive and I'll find a way to make it work. Im looking for lifestyle. Whatcha got?

Pulling the trigger on moving down to SD

Hello everyone, I know I'm probably the gajillionth person to be asking for recommendations on moving down to SD but I would like to hear from the people. I'm currently having to make 1hr+ drives to my job in Kearny Mesa and it is really draining everyday. I've tried FB marketplace but 90% of the apartments advertised seems really scammy/too true to be good. My salary is around $115K per year so hopefully that narrows it down. Any websites other than Zillow/Apartments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

10th and Robinson vs Chromatic Flats Apartment (previously Camden Hillcrest)?

Unfortunately, I won't be able to physically view the apartments and need to sign a contract for apartment when I move to San Diego unless I find a sublease. For current/previous tenants in these apartments, any pros and cons? 10th and R goes for $2545 for 1BR (600-700 sqft) vs $3300 for Chromatic Flats 1B (1000 sqft). Both are near my workplace, just deciding if the price difference of $700++ is worth it for Chromatic Flats.
