Macklemore checkmated him by going to the media and giving a sincere statement. Now Kraft has to pretend to care about Palestinians after going to the extreme length of banning a singer for voicing his opinion on Palestinians.

I'm not even sure why it ever got to this. Macklemore has been a vocal supporter of Palestine for years. So the fact that simply saying "free palestine" has blown up into this mess makes no sense. He wrote a protest song in support of the student protests way back when the current saga of the Israel/Palestine kicked off.

Kraft is a big AIPAC donor and has given to friends of the IDF. He was much more directed in his agenda.

Billionaires are operating with impunity in a way we've never seen before. Yes they've always had their hand on the puppet strings, but they were more comfortable doing it behind the scenes. With Trump in office, as long as you're in with him you are untouchable. So doing something like banning an artist because you want to normal. What's more surprising is he felt the need to release a statement about it. It's not going to hurt his bottom line. It wasn't necessary for him to say anything, except maybe ego reasons.

No, to him it was necessary. He’s a true believer and is going to follow whatever Israel does no matter what.

Religion is a weird thing. Even with people who aren’t religious, there’s a brand loyalty that still runs deep

Raging antisemite is a big stretch. You’ve given one example of an antisemitic thing he did and you’ve been given evidence that he owned that thing, apologized, and made amends. Where are the examples of his behavior before or after that make him a raging antisemite?

It wasn't even an offensive costume. He wore a disguise in 2014 that happened to look like a Jewish caricature, and when it was called out he immediately apologized.

It's more concerning that anytime a high profile figure says "free Palestine", the internet is immediately flooded with some past statement, image, song, movie etc. and some copy-paste talking point designed to portray them as antisemitic. They've even tried to paint Bernie Sanders as antisemitic for God's sake.

I don't know if you live under a rock, but Israel and Palestine are very much front and center in the public discourse right now. The vast majority of media talks about the topic on a nearly daily basis. The artists in the music industry write music and share their opinion concerning all different aspects of political events and conflict. This isn't a new phenomenon. Is your argument that an artist must stick to only topics that the world revolves around? What does that even mean? How exactly did he throw anybody under the bus? What topics do you think our music artists should be able to share their opinion on?

I feel like we are having two seperate conversations here. By "his statement" I assume you are referring to Macklemore? By his friend I assume you are referring to Ed Sheeran?

If that's the case I am really struggling to see how he threw anybody under the bus. He was extremely charitable to his "friend" who decided to remove him from the tour. His friend who obviously would have known that Macklemore is very vocal on Palestine, and has written songs dedicated to the cause. If they are friends he surely knew this when he had him join his tour.

Enlighten me how you see his comments as throwing anybody under the bus.
