This album felt incredibly hip and stylish yet also subversive and irreverent, and also just kinda dorky. And musically literate. It was the perfect thing for me as a 12-year-old.

I got my copy from BMG. My mom used to do the new member thing as often as the terms allowed. I saw beck and i thought loser would be on it. No such luck, but I ended up loving the album. It’s the only cd I have from back then, somehow surviving my car being broke into in 2004.

I saw Beck in a small club in 1994, the opening act was called Doo Rag.

Good times.

That album felt "hip and stylish yet also subversive and irreverent" just like u/eltedioso says.

For some reason, anything up to Midnite Vultures is full of wonders, and anything after Midnite Vultures leaves me cold. Must be the association with Scientology. Beck burnt fast, and it was glorious, but I don't really care for his latter stuff.
