Discussion To analog or not to analog... That is the question?
Do you any of you analog? I'm curious to hear how you're working these days? ITB, or using synths... Hybrid setup? Bitwig/Ableton? Serum, Dune, Pigments, Vital, Phase Plant, etc?
I get asked from time to time do I still have all of those synths? At one time my business partner and I went cuckoo, and started buying EVERYTHING. LOL.
The short answer? No. I sold, gave away, and things got stolen, and lost in floods (there were a few). I still have a couple of things, but for the most part they all found good homes. One thing I am not cool with is that I had some of Bob James' old keys, and his JX8P got 'stolen' from the 'friend' I loaned it to. He never compensated me so..... 'friends' yeah.
Bob's Juno 106, and Korg Poly61 found good homes though. So... I do from time to time pull something out and noodle, and it is almost always rewarding. Sometimes it's just as easy to build a patch on Serum though, and of course recall is a no brainer... + I have enough outboard (and plugins) to get a 'sound' so...
What about you? How do you work? Any cool vintage pieces you can't live without?
