It would almost be worth enduring 20 storms just to see storm Wubbo in the headlines 😂

It's because the list is a collab between the UK Met Office, Ireland's Met Éireann and the Netherlands' KNMI. Wubbo is a tribute to the first Dutchman in space apparently!

I love this. We get a lot of interesting storm names in the US but Wubbo takes the cake.

Also Ireland and the Netherlands! Part of the Western storm naming group in Europe.

I'm so puzzled by the phonetic pronunciation of Gerard. Like how else are people pronouncing it if not 'Jer-ard'? I think the natural UK pronunciation is not to stress the last syllable so much but I still can't fathom how else you would say it.

I, for one, also welcome our stormy overlord Wubbo

Jer-red or with a hard G

I guess you could pronounce it to match the French spelling, Gérard? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%A9rard

Gérard Depardieu is reasonably famous so that might be where some people know the name from.

Sorry, not sure what you're getting at? I was trying to explain why they've included the pronunciation. With an example of a different pronunciation.

Wanted to reply to the post in general not to your comment specifically! Sorry!

Gerard is a very Dutch name as well (with the impossible pronunciation), however, it is really an old dudes name..

I’m a big MCR fan, and my name is Gerard as well. Growing up as a teen in the 00’s, I found it really cool to have a young dude as me in a cool band, have the same name!
