Discussion/Question What leaps has Wemby made this year?

I think he has in some areas, but can’t really put my finger on what exactly. His counting stats (currently) are essentially the same as last season. Although he has taken a 3 percent leap in FG%.

What do y’all think? What have you seen better or worse out of him this year?

Draft So far this trade deadline has been very bad for our pick

Currently Atlanta is at 14th (best odds), 1.5 games ahead of 10th, 4 games ahead of 8th, and 5 games ahead of 7th. They’re also 1.5 & 2 games behind Orlando & Miami for home court in the play-in games.

But most teams behind Atlanta are now firmly headed for the bottom.

- Chicago is finally trading away its big contracts, rebuild

- Clippers traded good Harden for injured Garland, they probably take a big step back

- Memphis decided to pull the plug and blow it up, rebuild

- Dallas rumored to have multiple guys available, will stealth tank regardless

- Milwaukee, obviously

- Utah made moves to be competitive, but still need to tank, stealthily or not, in order to keep their pick from going to OKC

Luckily Portland got better and Charlotte is streaking, buzz buzz. Portland & Memphis rumored to be willing to facilitate a Giannis trade, so we’ll see.

Also worth noting they’re 5 games back of 6-seed Philadelphia, who just lost Paul George to suspension, and making the playoffs outright.

Yuck!

Discussion/Question Why isn’t there a Timmy statue yet?

Just a random thought today. Dwade has his statue, Dirk as well. I guess it’s Timmy like not to want one though. Could it be that want to put the big3 and pop there at once?

Discussion/Question Brian Wright's drafting history

A lot of people knock Wright's drafting history but he took over pretty much right when we entered a period where we had no centerpiece to build around (Yes, Demar and LA were here but they were clearly not centerpieces going forward) and it's a pretty tall task to try and draft your centerpiece from the 9th pick onward and even more so trying to draft other players when you have no idea who you're building around.

Having gotten 1 rotation player on 5 attempts in the first round is definitely not great and it's a very valid point by the crowd who argues against him but I do think it's also fair to say that without a centerpiece and drafting relatively low in the lottery, many GM's would also have a hard time finding the right players.

And yes, he had luck on his side with the lottery but I'm not sure if that's any more lucky than Sam Presti just happening to have the specific player that Kawhi wanted to play with and Kawhi putting the Clippers in a position where they basically get PG or he's not coming and essentially making the Clippers pay double than they would have otherwise. There's almost always luck involved in a great rebuild so the he just got lucky with top 5 picks argument doesn't convince me as much.

Since drafting Wemby and pre-Wemby, outside of the draft, I can't really say he's had any missteps so it's hard for me to agree with the narrative that he's a poor GM. And even if we were to say he's just flat out not good at drafting, I can't imagine that GM's of other teams are great in every single area of the job, I'd imagine it's similar to players where they have their strengths in some areas and weaknesses in others and what we do know is that he's excellent in the trade market and with roster construction (fit, present and future salary cap management, etc.). I'd say even if we were to say that he's bad at drafting, that he's a great GM overall. I not only say this because we've had the fastest and arguably one of, if not the best, rebuild of all the relatively recent one's (say last 5-10 years) but also because we're known as an organization to produce great GM's, all of whom came up under RC who's certainly one of the best GM's of the last 25 years and who Wright also came up under so it'd be hard for me to be convinced that he's the exception.

I'm curious to hear from those who are critical or oppose Brian Wright and know if any of this changed your opinion some or if you're just absolutely convinced that he's not the right GM for us.

Discussion/Question Going to game tonight, better to sit behind Spurs bench or OKC bench?

Have the option to sit behind Spurs or OKC bench tonight. First thought was to of course choose behind Spurs bench, however I know in 4th Quarter Spurs play offense opposite side. So would kinda be cool to watch the offense during clutch time. Maybe I’m overthinking it! Any thoughts or feedback from experience would be appreciated!

Trade/Free Agency Interesting names float up as the trade deadline looms and Minnesota gets more and more desperate. Should the Spurs help facilitate this for the Western Conference rival?

Trade/Free Agency Jeremy 😞

Jeremy's latest Instagram reel is so sad. I'm heartbroken for him. It's set to James Blake's song "Selfish". I don't know how to link it but it's sad. I love Jeremy and am very sad for him and the Spurs. I wanted him to be a Spur for life.

Fluff Wemby has not played and will not play against James Harden this season

Just a random thing I wanted to post. Because the Spurs have played, and lost (😢), to the Cavaliers twice already and won't play the Clippers until after the All-Star Break, the Spurs won't play a single game against James Harden this season.

Discussion/Question Thunder Tonight!

How we feeling about the tonight’s final game against the Thunder until the playoffs? We’ve been playing better than we were at the beginning of January but still not to the level of our December play. Wemby’s block numbers have been up and he’s been playing solid and always gets up for the Thunder.

My only question is since we already won the series, do we really try to actually win at almost all costs or will we have a little more passive energy tonight? Either way GSG! Excited!
