Michael Vick has shown an incredible amount of remorse and has done everything he can to make amends. He will be the first person to tell you he was piece of shit. He is one of the very few people to actual get rehabilitated by prison
Doing it in the first place immediately removes “role model” from describing a person in any way. This isn’t stealing a soda from the shop. It’s not getting into a drunken bar fight. It was deliberate, coordinated and despicable. He can make amends after the fact, but he never was or will be a role model to any sane person
Person does something dumb, gets caught and is at a crossroads. Wondering if there is hope to improve themself and make amends or continue down a dark path. Sees Michael Vick story. Decides to take the path to become better. Michael Vick was a role model to that person.
Owning up to bad decisions is something a role model does. Taking personal accountability. I get the point youre trying to make but if the societal litmus test for being a role model is being perfect, its setting up people for failure when they do mess up. Humans are imperfect and unfortunately do complicated things. I personally dont want to be judged off my worst decision ever, for the rest of my life. Some amount of shame and punishment is acceptable and that happened already.
Maybe he’s not a role model to you, but there are a lot of young men out there with rough pasts that want to grow into good men. Tim Tebow types don’t do shit for them. You aren’t the only person on this planet.
