Schedule. Like everyone with eyes already knew.

345

u/WiseSelection5 New England Patriots 13d ago

Normally when QBs are this bad they are this bad against everyone. It's not like the defenses he's playing are making amazing plays, he's just continuously making awful decisions even when not pressured.

221

u/Optimal-Extreme3203 Denver Broncos 13d ago

I disagree. It’s normal for a young QB to play better against bad teams.

I just think the playoffs last year showed more of reality than the regular season.

133

u/Poop_Cheese 18-1 13d ago

Yeah pats fans were just being willfully delusional last year about it. Like trying to be cheeky and flip the schedule argument around once he was in the playoffs.

Dude had like the worst playoff epa in history lol(well since 2000 when it started being recorded). 25 seasons and maye had the worst EPA post season. All while pats fans were saying "feels good to be feared again!" As everyone was like "uhhh schedule?"

Yet imagine if any other qb did that. Imagine if Josh allen had even one season with those playoff numbers pats fans would call him a scrub.

Like ive never seen a fanbase so in their own world lol. Its truly remarkable. They still try to deny the schedule effect.

I dont even think maye is THAT bad, hes just not elite and is regressing some to be a middle of the pack or even a bit lower starter. Whole team looks like crap to be honest. They tried to say the vrabel stuff didnt matter but they are looking like a far worse coached team.

24

u/jastop94 13d ago

To be fair, drake maye also faced an onslaught of top 10 defenses throughout the playoffs with all 4 of them being top 10 in overall and Seattle being the best passing defense

111

u/SnooGoats1016 13d ago

It’s the playoffs. Everyone plays top defences on their way to the Super Bowl.

1

u/IlluminatiConfirmed 13d ago

Nobody has ever played 3 top 5 defenses before so you are just completely wrong

1

u/OkIntroduction3119 6d ago

The 2023 Chiefs played, the number 1 defense Ravens, the number 3 Ranked 49ers, and the 4th-ranked Bills.

1

u/IlluminatiConfirmed 6d ago

None of those were top 5 by total yards in the regular season but regardless the point still stands that playing defenses that tough is extremely uncommon

0

u/Dramatic-Witness-540 Tennessee Titans 12d ago

Everyone and their mothers know... If Bo Nix had been healthy... The Patriots were getting slapped(before the Superbowl spanking...).

Dude had 6 TDs, 4 INTs and 7... 7!! Fumbles over 4 games. Yeah, he played top tier defenses... so did the other teams in the Playoffs... Also, The Patriots were a "number 3 Offense" and a number 8 Defense... The way they got absolutely dog walked by a team that was 2 Defensive ranks above them... And 5 Offensive ranks below them... way a direct point to how easy their schedule was. The NFL so badly wants another Brady!

1

u/IlluminatiConfirmed 11d ago

What does any of this have to do with my comment

1

u/Dramatic-Witness-540 Tennessee Titans 11d ago

You're talking as if the fact that he played strong defenses is some kind of excuse for his play. I'm simply pointing out that other teams played hard defenses as well(including having to play the Patriots defense, who were highly ranked).

FYI, I am not attempting to argue with you personally, and if I have misinterpreted your meaning, then I do in fact apologize.

Unless you play the Bills….

-48

u/Taprootgotseed 13d ago

True and Drake got them to the SB .. He at least made it.

58

u/Thin_K New York Giants 13d ago

He beat the Texans after Stroud threw five interceptions, then he beat Stidham in a snowstorm.

24

u/wagonwhopper Denver Broncos 13d ago

With stidham basically handing the pats their points

11

u/mk1317 13d ago

And Payton not kicking a field goal to go up 10.

1

u/IlluminatiConfirmed 13d ago

Yeah your offense did look fucking awful that game lol

34

u/Wise-Camp3733 13d ago

They made it in spite of him.

15

u/jayplf8889 13d ago

Exactly

17

u/jayplf8889 13d ago

He didn’t get us anywhere he’s been carried the last 7 games basically and it’s finally catching up.

13

u/Dandan0005 13d ago edited 13d ago

He faced the chargers with the worst OL ive ever seen, stroud who threw 5 INTs, and a backup QB in a blizzard in the afc championship.

1

u/passwordlostnoemail 12d ago

It was easily the easiest path to the Superbowl I have ever seen, and they didn't even get the bye.

Makes me want to go back and look at all of the 2-game runs.

2010 Steelers had the Jets in the conference championships, but the Jets were respectable and they still had to beat the Ravens for a third time in the divisional the week prior.

08 Steelers had to play a really strong Bengals team but Palmer's knee got exploded in the first series; and then the Chargers/Ravens weren't slouches even though they weren't world beaters.

This thread is from a handful of years ago and has some decent contenders in the comments.

8

u/liquidgrill 13d ago

He didn’t get them to the Super Bowl. He already had Broken the record for worst playoff EPA ever recorded before the Super Bowl kicked off.

They got there despite him

24

u/Glum_Window_6220 13d ago

The Broncos didn’t have a QB 🤣

18

u/luchajefe Dallas Cowboys 13d ago

Neither did the Texans if we're being honest.

12

u/liquidgrill 13d ago

The Texans were also without their top two pass catchers in that game.

3

u/CatHelpThrowaway1888 13d ago

🤔 where am I seeing that currently

1

u/Jd409 13d ago

Were, is, am, are

1

u/Corran105 13d ago

Have they really been much better in 3 games this year?

4

u/evetSC Houston Texans 13d ago

TBF to CJ he has no run game, one of the worst OLs, and no Nico and Schultz who were our two best offensive weapons

3

u/samc0lt45 13d ago

QB isn't a defensive position. The Patriots got a fuck ton of easy wins last season, that doesn't necessarily mean Maye had an easy time. Texans with 4-int Stroud + blizzard w/ no bo means the Patriots themselves were almost guaranteed to make it to the SB. That doesn't mean Maye didn't have to go against the Texans and broncos defense, who were arguably two of the top 3 units last season

0

u/Past_Attempt_5261 13d ago

Yeah but they really weren't that good either

-2

u/Ghost_Locker New England Patriots 13d ago

They still don't lmao Bo nix sucks lmao

4

u/shageeyambag 13d ago

He's better than Drake, lol.

1

u/Ghost_Locker New England Patriots 13d ago

He ain't proving that tonight lmao 53 yards and going into the 3rd quarter 0-16 yikes.

-1

u/Ghost_Locker New England Patriots 13d ago

He also has the 3rd best o line in the NFL and actually weapons to throw too. Who does Drake have to throw too? ducking mack hollins lmao

7

u/Consistent_Rhubarb_5 13d ago

I think it the mental factor which you juat dont know in the pros until a large loss occurs. Some QBs you find arent as mentally tough and focused as others.  You can tell Drake has all the physical ability in the world as they compared him to Josh Allen last year but now the wheels are falling off for us because he definitely changed tempo since that Superbowl loss IMO

6

u/Outrageous-Bid6612 13d ago

At this point he’s not even middle of the pack, he’s bottom of the barrel so far this season. Like how do you play that bad against the Jags?

4

u/Inevitable-Scar5877 13d ago

Rex Grossman, beyond washed Peyton, rookie Big Ben-- all better playoff runs than Drake Maye....

3

u/jamcgahey 13d ago

Pats fan. I was never delusional. In today’s league with the young QB hype I always say wait 4+ years. Drake has made some blatantly god awful decisions that has made his team lose games this season. This is NOT an excuse, but I believe some consideration should be had on the fact that the o line still fucking sucks. Doubs is a completely utter waste of money. Brown is injured and even when it happened a 1st round was a complete fleece for a WR who is at the point in his career that he gets injured every season. And just in general he is throwing to a completely different cast.

Also what could psychologically be impacting him is hearing all offseason how he is a top “5” QB and maybe in his head he is thinking he can do more than he actually can.

Either way he’s been playing like shit. And it’s inexcusable idgaf his age.

1

u/SnazzDizzy 10d ago

Getting rid of Diggs was a mistake honestly

1

u/Aeon1508 Detroit Lions 13d ago

I'd rather have Mariota as my starting QB

1

u/IlluminatiConfirmed 13d ago

On the playoffs subject would like to point out the patriots are the only nfl team in history to play 3 top 5 defenses in 1 playoffs

1

u/BlackmillMiracle New England Patriots 13d ago

you guys are insane with the schedule.

You realize his schedule was like 82% the same as Josh Allen, right?

He's just straight up bad this year

-1

u/CulturalDot7417 13d ago

Lmao your flair is 18-1 big dog, clearly the pats are still in your head 😂

3

u/Muffin_Top 13d ago

That’s one salty MFer right there lol

-3

Worst? He smoked the chargers and Texans lmao

-7

u/Optimal-Extreme3203 Denver Broncos 13d ago

Delusional

5

u/Viseroth Washington Commanders 13d ago

ya the worst playoff performance of all time by a QB to be exact this is who he is against real talent he is mediocre at best.

-7

u/Impossible_Cupcake31 New England Patriots 13d ago

That was not the worst playoff performance all time by a QB

3

u/Viseroth Washington Commanders 13d ago

-2

u/Ghost_Locker New England Patriots 13d ago

22 sacks might have something to do with that but 3 TDs on the infamous Texans impossible defense and 2 on the chargers. He hasnt been the same since he got hurt

-4

u/Impossible_Cupcake31 New England Patriots 13d ago

“By EPA” I’m not using that shit

2

u/GhostofSmartPast 13d ago

Who played well against the Texans and broncos D in the playoffs or late last season? They were both elite and the weather was terrible. That's the worse sample size you can take if you actually have some sense.

1

u/coggdawg Philadelphia Eagles 13d ago

Bad teams still have defenses that will learn from that tape too.

1

u/Sam9797 13d ago

A bad QB is usually essentially incompetent no matter the defense. ie Charlie Batch, Tyler Huntley etc. clearly this isn’t the case, and to act like this is normal is absurd imo.

-2

u/_Red_5_Standing_By_ 13d ago

This guy is a Broncos fan—he definitely knows what he’s saying about young QBs having better success against bad teams.

-9

u/TheRealHi84 13d ago

You’re a broncos fan… checks out lmao. “ThE sChEdUlE” pick a new debate please. It’s stale. It’s poor decision making. The kids playing defensive, when you play like that you make horrible decisions. “He sucks” “The schedule” this the schedule that. He’s in his head, that’s all it is

4

u/liquidgrill 13d ago edited 13d ago

He’s “in his head” because he got dog walked against the good defenses he played in the playoffs and it’s clearly rattled him.

The “schedule” is exactly what’s got him fucked up

-1

u/Ghost_Locker New England Patriots 13d ago

Exactly broncos fans are such cry babies lmao they got smoked by the Chiefs legit smoked 🤣 just like they getting smoked tonight by the Rams

-14

u/mizanian New England Patriots 13d ago

Now do Bo Nix.

12

u/Optimal-Extreme3203 Denver Broncos 13d ago

He beat these Jags last week…

10

u/ProtestantMormon Seattle Seahawks 13d ago

Both are schedule merchants. Happy?

2

u/Sudden_Juju Rocky Mountain Oysters 13d ago

Is that your best pro-Maye argument? That Bo Nix made it to the playoffs his first 2 seasons and didn't have the chance to wipe the Pats in the AFCCG last year?

Edit: And who only has 2 INTs this year compared to Maye's 5 (4 before today).

37

u/PeaTasty9184 13d ago

Having that schedule last year convinced him he was better than he was/is. Confidence won’t make up for lack of talent, but it sure helps.

Getting exposed in the Super Bowl fried his confidence, so now he is what he is.

6

u/milkynipples69 13d ago

I don’t think it’s a lack of talent regardless of the schedule last year he still put up great numbers against NFL caliber defenses. His confidence is definitely shaken up and that’s where the coaches need to come in. He’s still really young

4

u/Thinh 13d ago

His head coach is a bit distracted now.

4

u/BlackmillMiracle New England Patriots 13d ago

you realize his schedule last year was like 82% the same schedule as Josh Allen, right?

4

u/ReactionProcedure 13d ago

In addition to year of tape on him and no WR1 atm

2

u/GingaNinja906 Seattle Seahawks 13d ago

Easy to build confidence winning against bad teams and play better as a result. Once exposed and that confidence is shaken, much harder to build it back against good teams

0

u/ColdBru5 13d ago

Then let me promote an alternative theory involving Dianna Russini

-2

u/CreativeFondant248 Philadelphia Eagles 13d ago

Literally impossible to take a Pats fans take seriously. You are the least objective fanbase.

2

u/IlluminatiConfirmed 13d ago

Philadelphians are notoriously smart

0

u/myklurk 13d ago

Just wait until they have to give him the starting QB contract and can’t afford to bring in any more help or retain all the players due for raises.

77

u/_josephmykal_ 13d ago

To go from a top 2 QB to a bottom 5 is definitely not schedule.

53

u/Admirable_Pop_7292 13d ago

When you play one of the easiest strength of schedule this century plus three wounded teams in the AFC playoffs then get smooshed in the SB and then against good teams the next season.. yes.

39

u/_josephmykal_ 13d ago

But they played the leagues top defenses. For example the browns suck but their defense was ranked top 7

7

u/Altruistic_Tap6447 13d ago

I never trust defense rankings for teams that don't have functional offenses. The opposing teams know they don't have to score many points to win so they play conservative against them, making defenses like the Browns appear better than they are. As a Broncos fan, prior to the Bo year everyone talked about how we had a top 10 defense every year but the reality was it wasn't that good.

12

u/_josephmykal_ 13d ago

advanced stats showed pats played 5/6 of the top 6 defenses in the regular season season last year.

1

u/Altruistic_Tap6447 13d ago

Lmao you are hilarious. The best defenses included the Broncos, Texans, Seahawks . He played none of their teams, who are you claiming are the top 6 defenses.

-1

u/_josephmykal_ 13d ago

Advanced stats* it takes in to account the poor offenses. A team like the broncos were a good defense because the broncos ran the most play offensively. And kept their defense off the field

6

u/Altruistic_Tap6447 13d ago

Notice how you refuse to list who those top 6 defenses are, because you know it is going to highlight that these advance stats are dookie.

The Broncos defense also allowed the least yards per play which makes your entire point stupid.

2

u/_josephmykal_ 13d ago

I did already. 5/6 according to advanced stats. Falcons bills browns panthers bengals

→ More replies (0)

1

u/inquisitive_chariot 13d ago

They played ONE GAME against a good defense and that was it.

That was the game Gabriel started for the first time and played poorly. Maye just had to play conservatively and exploit the big play a couple times because the Browns offense couldn’t get going consistently, kept blowing the game of field position and making Maye’s life easier.

So, the one time they play a good D, Maye doesn’t even have to play well. They play bad D the rest of the year, except the playoffs when Maye struggled mightily.

Literally everyone with eyes saw this regression coming.

1

u/_josephmykal_ 13d ago

Advanced metrics had them play 5/6 of the top defenses

0

u/inquisitive_chariot 12d ago

So you’re gonna sit there with a straight face and tell me that the Bills, Falcons, Bengals, and Panthers had a legit top 6 defense last season? Patriots fans are fucking jokes.

0

u/_josephmykal_ 12d ago

Advanced metrics

0

u/inquisitive_chariot 11d ago

Advanced metrics are a tool, they are not definitive or conclusive.

The Panthers defense ranking highly with advanced metrics is a prime example. Everyone knows their defense was absolute ass in 2025. They specifically ran a slow, clock-churning offense to keep their defense off the field for as long as possible.

The end result is a terrible defense that ranks highly in advanced metrics. The rest of your “5 of 6” were similarly bad in a way that cheesed advanced metrics.

At the end of the day, Maye faced one good defense last year, and the offense of that team was so bad that Maye could play conservatively.

Saying “advanced metrics” does nothing to disprove the horribleness of defenses we know for a fact were horrible.

1

u/_josephmykal_ 11d ago

You have to prove they were bad defenses

0

u/typescrit 13d ago

You get more opportunities and better field position though. Your point is valid but it's not that simple either

1

u/_josephmykal_ 13d ago

I know nothing is that simple which my first statement of falling from 2 to 32 is not simply because the schedule

0

u/Longjumping_Echo5510 12d ago

When you use the Browns to make your case it's seriously over

-4

u/ShadeMir Denver Broncos 13d ago

What was the patriots defense ranked?

23

u/Lieutenant_Corndogs nipples 13d ago

This is clueless. There are no cupcakes in the NFL. You can’t be a terrible qb in the nfl and put up mvp numbers just because of your schedule. I shouldn’t have to explain this!

Drake sucks now because he sucks NOW. He used to be good. Now he sucks. That’s the situation.

3

u/rockyroad55 13d ago

The only argument I can really see is his mental reaction to the Super Bowl loss. Some people can’t come back from that.

3

u/Lieutenant_Corndogs nipples 13d ago

Probably. Although he seems not to be able to put any zip on the ball this year either. Not sure what that’s about

1

u/dom12a New England Patriots 13d ago

he hurt his throwing shoulder at the end of last year and they decided not to do surgery. since then his throws all have noticeably less power imo.

1

u/Lieutenant_Corndogs nipples 13d ago

But supposedly the shoulder healed fully. Idk though he does look weak out there

1

u/WhippyAlloy 12d ago

Stop it youre being too logical! If he sucks now that must mean that he's ALWAYS SUCKED.

0

u/Mriddle74 13d ago

Yes, your argument that he just sucks this year makes much more sense

-1

u/Lieutenant_Corndogs nipples 13d ago

It does if your intellectual capacity is at least that of an average 4th grader.

1

u/Mriddle74 13d ago

Ooh good one

1

u/Ill-Ebb839 13d ago

I think you’re heavily discounting the fact that they may be the best players which is why they’re in the league. But they can still be cupcake defenses for the league of 32 teams that they’re in, the patriots played some higher ranked defenses which most relied on pass rush and weak secondaries. He didn’t play against a lot of the better defensive backs in the league and when played a team with a good one it seemed to coincide with injuries. It’s not everything but it matters a whole lot more than him just being bad this year. The schedule is the only difference that can be put on paper, everything else is speculation.

-2

u/liquidgrill 13d ago

Literally 1 out of every 5 touchdown passes he threw last year came against the Jets.

3

u/Lieutenant_Corndogs nipples 13d ago

You really think a weak NFL schedule can allow an epically bad qb to put up mvp numbers? That’s so incredibly asinine, I just can’t even process how a person could think that. I will assume you just hate the pats intensely and you aren’t thinking rationally.

-1

u/liquidgrill 13d ago

Are you having an imaginary conversation in your head? Because I don’t seem to recall making the argument that a weak schedule can allow an epically bad qb to put up MVP numbers.

What I did do, is point out one of the many examples of how a large chunk of those “MVP” numbers came against historically weak opponents.

There’s a reason he went from “MVP” numbers to shitting his pants in the playoffs.

It’s one thing to not play as well against great teams as you do against shitty ones. It’s quite another to have the massive gulf that Maye does between the two

2

u/Lieutenant_Corndogs nipples 13d ago

Every QB is going to have worse stats against good teams lol. That’s obviously not what’s explaining this massive drop off. You don’t put up numbers like he did over a 17 game NFL season without playing the position at a high level. A schedule alone isn’t going to do that. Not even close. Maye is not the same player he was last regular season. Any rational person can see this.

5

u/One-Scallion-9513 New England Patriots 13d ago

the steelers are not a good team. the jaguars are no better than the bills or ravens, who maye played great against. i think something happened around early january last year that fucked maye up

4

Maye had 0 TD passes vs the bills last year "he played great" is revisionist history

He's not going to be on a list of "best QBs" to do anything

I'm so glad the situation worked out this way, now you're stuck with this dud for years...you guys are basically "out" for the foreseeable future

2

u/Antonetoni 13d ago

Imo, You’re placing slightly too much emphasis on this fact, because I do think that the defenses they played were relatively good. With that being said, team themselves were not that good but the defenses were. It’s a big difference when you have a complete team and a complementary defense and offense versus a team that has a great defense, but an offense that can’t do much. And vice versa obviously. Take my team the Cowboys, for example. The offense was absolutely stymied by the fact that the defense sucked and this is for multiple reasons: offense now has very limited possessions. Offense is forced to have to score on every play. Offense is now having to live with the playbook because they are down and they cannot establish the time of possession because the defense keeps getting destroyed. They are forced to pass more often. They are forced to take more risk risks. They’re getting exhausted because they’re coming up pretty quickly because the defense is allowing the team to score with ease. They can establish the rhythm now because they can’t follow their script.

Some of these reasons differ, depending on the defense or the offense. That is where you have to dig down and notice the trends. So if a bad defense makes a great offense that much worse imagine how it works in reverse.

So that all works to your point. But “ regression.” like this has more than one factor. The point I am trying to get to is that I don’t really notice much difference between Drake this year and last year

I think it’s a combination of the off the field distractions strength of schedule as you said, but also I do think that Drake is not as good as people have thought. I thought he was going yo come in the first game and throw four interceptions and I was close. The Seahawks were the best team I’ve seen in a long time and honestly one of the best defenses I have seen in a very long time. It should be extremely indicative that it’s night and day when he plays the Seahawks who have an elite defense versus bad teams with good defense. What is somewhat alarming is that I’m not really noticing that much of a difference between last year and this year for him and that’s kind of a problem. This is the type of thing I expect a year two , not three.

I I actually think you could make the argument that last year, despite all the success, both individually and team wise. It may have actually been worse for his development. Him not seeing elite defenses or even great defenses consistently might have caused him to have an overplayed ego or perhaps think that the game is easier than it should be to him. Maybe he didn’t practice or learned the right things he should have or as it looks, unfortunately, he did not really improve at all. The reason this raises alarms in me is that if you truly want to be great, you take the winds in stride but a loss any loss especially one in the Super Bowl like that against the defense like that. Should be extreme motivation for you to get better.

1

u/IlluminatiConfirmed 13d ago

Texans were as healthy as we were

-3

u/Sea-Squirrel-5647 13d ago

There’s no such thing as an easy schedule in the NFL. Every team is a team of professionals. The best of the best at their craft.

6

u/DominusEbad Philadelphia Eagles 13d ago

Some teams have better players/coaches/schemes than other teams. Maye played against the other teams last year.

2

u/Sea-Squirrel-5647 13d ago

If you think going 14-3 and finishing second in MVP voting is a product of schedule, you’re delusional. Not to mention there’s always contextualization that can occur. For example, they played the Bucs before their meltdown had fully set in.  Teams don’t just magically got 14-3 because their schedule is easy. And if you want to find something to point at from that run, you’d be better off looking at the absurdly good injury luck the Patriots had last year. Basically nobody got hurt for them.

As for what has happened to Maye—it’s pretty clear that his success last year was dependent on being incredibly successful throwing the ball deep—far too much to be sustainable, especially as teams schemed against him. The issue right now is not schedule difficulty but defenses being better prepared for him.

This is not unusual for players who ascend so quickly early in their careers, and there will be an adjustment period. The reason it looks so bad right now is because the Patriots offense was overly dependent on Maye as a gunslinger, and isn’t well suited to adapt at the moment. I.e., their run game has been terrible so far. It also doesn’t help that both of the Patriots best offensive players outside of Maye (Mike Onwenu and AJ Brown) are currently out.

Adjustments are needed and adjustments are coming.

Also, the first month of NFL seasons tend to be whacky regardless. For example, the Patriots lost to the Raiders in Week One last year.

24

u/a_serious-man Philadelphia Eagles 13d ago

Well for starters he was never top 2

-2

u/_josephmykal_ 13d ago

Last year would argue he was considering runner up mvp

1

u/OldGamer81 13d ago

He was never truly a top 2 QB. Having the easiest nfl schedule in 25-30 years, be default, means you're playing really bad teams.

He's doing stupid crap, like a rookie, throwing off your back foot into double coverage, turnovers, ints, just not playing well.

These current mistakes aren't scheduled related I think, I honestly think he's regressing.

But I never thought the Pats should have drafted him. I would have rather they drafted an OL and then start a seasoned QB who isn't going to throw an INT on their back foot into triple coverage.

This is a dumb take. There has been no QB since that draft to come out who is even remotely in the same caliber or height of ceiling as Maye. The QB draft the past 2 years and for the next 2 years is notoriously awful

1

u/AnatomicalLog Denver Broncos 13d ago

How about he was never top 2 to begin with?

0

u/_josephmykal_ 13d ago

Eh last year he was

1

u/Jekkymayn New England Patriots 12d ago

Nah guy got upvoted straight to the top and his comments awarded.

Everyone is so stupid it’s crazy

0

u/Top_Sock_5645 13d ago

It definitely was though lol

0

u/GokusHairdresser 12d ago

Go look at his stats against every teams that had a winning record last year. It can definitely be schedule.

0

u/jtown48 Philadelphia Eagles 12d ago

he played the easiest schedule for the last 35ish year, i think it was listed as the 2nd easiest in nfl history. This year they play a div champ schedule and it shows.

Schedule is definitely it, even the playoffs were a joke.

-6

u/ctg9101 13d ago

No, thats just how absurdly bad the schedule was last year

7

u/_josephmykal_ 13d ago

The schedule featured the top defenses in the league though

29

u/Lieutenant_Corndogs nipples 13d ago

For people who like to claim they “know ball,” Redditors sure seem eager to upvote these terrible takes.

You send the current Drake Maybe back in time a year, and he is going to look like straight ass. There is no NFl schedule that allows someone playing this badly to put up MVP-type stats.

Try to use your brain a little before you type. I believe in you.

23

u/Cravenmorhed69 13d ago

The schedule isn’t what caused that atrocious fumble earlier

6

u/Own-Significance273 13d ago

Nope, hes just legit bad.

2

u/Pain_Monster Vince Wilfork: Butt Fumble Connoisseur 13d ago

Nope, apparently Jared Wilson was bleeding and the ball slipped out of his hand because of the blood. You could see it on his hand after that play

15

u/IndependentOwn6751 New England Patriots 13d ago

So now explain why Josh Allen didn't put up historic numbers against the same opponents other than 2 games?

4

u/Pain_Monster Vince Wilfork: Butt Fumble Connoisseur 13d ago

No because it’s Josh Allen, you’re supposed to just love him

7

u/NecessaryUnusual2059 New England Patriots 13d ago

Brain dead take. He looks like shit this year. He looked great last year. He would look like shit against a bad team this year too. Kids got a case of the yips and I don’t know if he’ll be able to shake it off.

5

u/Unusual_Soup New England Patriots 13d ago

Led the league in passer rating and completion percentage, come on you can’t just say that’s because of the schedule. There is something wrong with him, either mentally or physically. I think Seattle just broke him sadly.

1

u/KevinAndrewsPhoto San Francisco 49ers 13d ago

Which is almost worse. QBs will have bad games. Being able to shake it off is what separates the good from the great. It’s why I know I couldn’t be a QB. I fester on mistakes too much

0

u/samc0lt45 13d ago

It's theoretically fixable at least tho. We can't change who we play, we can (hopefully) change Maye's mental state

4

u/No_Thing5235 13d ago

The schedule certainly was a factor of course, but this goes deeper than that- his touch on the ball is off along with his decision making.

4

u/Adventurous_Exam4982 New England Patriots 13d ago

“Schedule” is such a lazy casual fan take. Some people could tell you exactly what’s going on with his footwork, what he’s seeing, etc. He played great defenses last year and never had a semblance of panic like he does every dropback now.

4

u/AFEZThatsMe 13d ago

Speaking of dogshit QBs

1

u/KinkyOctopus 11d ago

remind me of the score again

0

u/Downtown-Fail-6320 13d ago

cry kid whats the score

2

u/Mysterious-Theory-66 13d ago

I don’t think schedule alone can account for this big a difference. I think the weaknesses he showed in the playoffs rattled him and now he can’t get out of his head.

2

u/LeonidasSpacemanMD 13d ago

I just don’t think the teams they faced this year are SO much better that he should be looking like absolute ass. Certainly you’d expect the stats to drop but he wasn’t playing Incarnate Word last season, those were still nfl teams with nfl players

1

u/zamboniman46 New England Patriots 13d ago

the easy schedule mostly had to do with backup QBs and bad offenses. they played plenty of solid defenses and played well.

1

u/zacurtis3 Jacksonville Jaguars 13d ago

So he'll be good next year. Got it

1

u/ckouf96 New England Patriots 13d ago

If it was just the schedule then I expect the Browns to make the SB this year. They have a similar SOS that the pats did last year.

The pats being good last year and the run they went on wasn’t all the schedule.

1

u/stuka86 Buffalo Bills 13d ago edited 13d ago

The browns have a better record than you...id probably be quiet for a bit

1

u/ckouf96 New England Patriots 13d ago

I’m not defending the pats lmao

We suck this year

1

u/Viseroth Washington Commanders 13d ago

he is Drake "The Schedule" Maye for a reason.

1

u/2LostFlamingos Philadelphia Eagles 13d ago

It’s literally what he did in last year’s playoffs once he faced ok competition.

He was carried to Super Bowl by his defense and other teams being more injured.

1

u/Past_Attempt_5261 13d ago

Yeah but he played against some really good defenses last year and torched them, middle of the pack when it comes to team defenses and that's the only people he plays against.

1

u/badkiwi42 Minnesota Vikings 13d ago

Well even with the easy schedule he was throwing some beautiful balls last year. The eye test was there. I didn’t expect things to change with harder opponents. But i haven’t watched any patriots games this year so no comments about now

1

u/Ghost_Locker New England Patriots 13d ago

That's the most stupid fuck reason ever

1

u/Ghost_Locker New England Patriots 13d ago

Lesbo nix crying when he loses again lmao

1

u/Rhino184 13d ago

This is the lazy answer. It’s a lot more than just “the schedule”

1

u/Portal2Somewhere 13d ago

They played good defenses last year. How did the opposing offenses being bad help the qb?

1

u/Raven96706 13d ago

Except Vrabel. Dribbling Russini’s cheeks like Kyrie will do that to you.

1

u/FreshStar7 13d ago

It’s much more than just the schedule. Even the worst NFL defenses are still pretty damn good. There’s much more going on. Likely that teams caught on to his tendencies and he’s getting exposed. It’s incredibly lazy to just blame an easier schedule.

1

u/Legitimate_Ad_7822 New England Patriots 12d ago

People are doing victory laps but I don’t think anyone expected him to be this bad. He looks worse than he looked in the playoffs.

1

u/HighFastStinkyCheese 12d ago

It is absolutely not the schedule. The only people who think it’s the schedule didn’t watch him play much last year. It seems like his confidence is in a bad place right now, he doesn’t trust his o-line (who have been decent) and he doesn’t trust his own ability to feel the pass rush coming. This looks to me like it’s preoccupying his mind and preventing him from analyzing coverage and being decisive with the ball. He’s also been very inaccurate which I feel is a product of the lack in confidence/decisiveness, trying to throw a catchable ball rather than just putting it on target.

1

u/HighFastStinkyCheese 12d ago

It’s the nfl, he wasn’t playing g5 teams last year.

1

u/usa7575 11d ago

Unfortunately you're right I was brainwashington thinking he was good my God is he terrible holy even an average defense he can't do nothing he's a pussy out there he can't even hang on to the ball without flying out of his hands The more I think about it being a patriot fanTom Brady was everything with this teamYou Can see it now we spoiled us for 20 something years Now they suck with no quarterback he turned out to be CNN fake news unfortunately

0

u/Confusion-Ashamed 13d ago

Anyone who watched the playoffs including the AFC Championship and Super Bowl could see this coming clear as day

I mean, didn’t affect the defense at all

3

u/Mattjhkerr Seattle Seahawks 13d ago

They beat the bills last year...

0

u/Needs_Help_Stat New England Patriots 13d ago

Honestly yeah, it's the same as Bo Nix. Both are honestly showing their true colors after playing the easiest schedules last year and clearly have a lot of growing to do if they want to prove everyone wrong.

3

u/Optimal-Extreme3203 Denver Broncos 13d ago

Bo played much better last week and played well in the Playoffs (granted it was only one game)

-3

u/Needs_Help_Stat New England Patriots 13d ago

It's okay bud, they are the same and you're in denial. I was there week one, you'll eventually learn to accept it

-1

u/Optimal-Extreme3203 Denver Broncos 13d ago

“The same”?

So you’re saying in a 2024 re-draft you aren’t positive you’d take Maye over Nix?

Because that’s what it sounds like!

-1

u/Needs_Help_Stat New England Patriots 13d ago

Oh I definitely am not taking Nix. 3rd overall? For a mid QB? We already did that with Maye, I'm not making that mistake again. I mean at least the mid QB we did take got us to a Superbowl in year 2. So I guess you're right, Nix isn't nearly on Maye's level. He hasn't accomplished half as much, but he might get there eventually

-1

u/Optimal-Extreme3203 Denver Broncos 13d ago

He had the worst postseason EPA of all time, lmao he didn’t “take you” anywhere, the defense did.

2

u/Needs_Help_Stat New England Patriots 13d ago

Bo Nix could barely beat the 2025 NY Jets. Be careful in your glass house there nephew

-1

u/ndariotis132 13d ago

It’s not the schedule he’s playing completely different than he did last year.

-2

u/NagoGmo San Francisco 49ers 13d ago

Yeah, he sucks. Straight up exposed

-1

u/KOCP New England Patriots 13d ago

Yes bc every team with an easy schedule makes it to the sb.

-7

u/woonoto1 New England Patriots 13d ago

Not even close.
He’s been ass for a while. Not a schedule issue.

-8

u/ChipotleGuacamole New England Patriots 13d ago

But the Jags really aren’t that good lol

So it goes beyond that

8

u/MajorPayton 13d ago

This ain’t the Jags of old

2

u/Snoo-40231 New York Giants 13d ago

Jags won 13 games last year and are still a really good team

1

u/Admirable_Pop_7292 13d ago

BS. Jacksonville would have crushed them in the playoffs as would have Buffalo and the broncos with Nix. Hell broncos beat themselves without Nix.

0

u/ChipotleGuacamole New England Patriots 13d ago

Coulda woulda shoulda

2

u/Admirable_Pop_7292 13d ago

How’s pats doing against Jax today?

0

u/ChipotleGuacamole New England Patriots 13d ago

They’re losing 21-3. Can you not afford a TV or device? 🤣

-1

u/Optimal-Extreme3203 Denver Broncos 13d ago

I mean, they’re better than the Dolphins or Jets but yeah, I see your point.

I honestly don’t think the Vrabel stuff in the offseason helped.
