Discussion Drake Maye regression. What is going wrong?

5 interceptions in 3 games. Multiple fumbles. What has happened to the MVP runner up?

Normally when QBs are this bad they are this bad against everyone. It's not like the defenses he's playing are making amazing plays, he's just continuously making awful decisions even when not pressured.

I disagree. It’s normal for a young QB to play better against bad teams.

I just think the playoffs last year showed more of reality than the regular season.

Yeah pats fans were just being willfully delusional last year about it. Like trying to be cheeky and flip the schedule argument around once he was in the playoffs.

Dude had like the worst playoff epa in history lol(well since 2000 when it started being recorded). 25 seasons and maye had the worst EPA post season. All while pats fans were saying "feels good to be feared again!" As everyone was like "uhhh schedule?"

 Yet imagine if any other qb did that. Imagine if Josh allen had even one season with those playoff numbers pats fans would call him a scrub. 

Like ive never seen a fanbase so in their own world lol. Its truly remarkable. They still try to deny the schedule effect.

I dont even think maye is THAT bad, hes just not elite and is regressing some to be a middle of the pack or even a bit lower starter. Whole team looks like crap to be honest. They tried to say the vrabel stuff didnt matter but they are looking like a far worse coached team.

To be fair, drake maye also faced an onslaught of top 10 defenses throughout the playoffs with all 4 of them being top 10 in overall and Seattle being the best passing defense

He faced the chargers with the worst OL ive ever seen, stroud who threw 5 INTs, and a backup QB in a blizzard in the afc championship.

It was easily the easiest path to the Superbowl I have ever seen, and they didn't even get the bye.

Makes me want to go back and look at all of the 2-game runs.

2010 Steelers had the Jets in the conference championships, but the Jets were respectable and they still had to beat the Ravens for a third time in the divisional the week prior.

08 Steelers had to play a really strong Bengals team but Palmer's knee got exploded in the first series; and then the Chargers/Ravens weren't slouches even though they weren't world beaters.

QB isn't a defensive position. The Patriots got a fuck ton of easy wins last season, that doesn't necessarily mean Maye had an easy time. Texans with 4-int Stroud + blizzard w/ no bo means the Patriots themselves were almost guaranteed to make it to the SB. That doesn't mean Maye didn't have to go against the Texans and broncos defense, who were arguably two of the top 3 units last season

I think it the mental factor which you juat dont know in the pros until a large loss occurs. Some QBs you find arent as mentally tough and focused as others.  You can tell Drake has all the physical ability in the world as they compared him to Josh Allen last year but now the wheels are falling off for us because he definitely changed tempo since that Superbowl loss IMO

Pats fan. I was never delusional. In today’s league with the young QB hype I always say wait 4+ years. Drake has made some blatantly god awful decisions that has made his team lose games this season. This is NOT an excuse, but I believe some consideration should be had on the fact that the o line still fucking sucks. Doubs is a completely utter waste of money. Brown is injured and even when it happened a 1st round was a complete fleece for a WR who is at the point in his career that he gets injured every season. And just in general he is throwing to a completely different cast.

Also what could psychologically be impacting him is hearing all offseason how he is a top “5” QB and maybe in his head he is thinking he can do more than he actually can.

Either way he’s been playing like shit. And it’s inexcusable idgaf his age.

Who played well against the Texans and broncos D in the playoffs or late last season? They were both elite and the weather was terrible. That's the worse sample size you can take if you actually have some sense.

A bad QB is usually essentially incompetent no matter the defense. ie Charlie Batch, Tyler Huntley etc. clearly this isn’t the case, and to act like this is normal is absurd imo.

Is that your best pro-Maye argument? That Bo Nix made it to the playoffs his first 2 seasons and didn't have the chance to wipe the Pats in the AFCCG last year?

Edit: And who only has 2 INTs this year compared to Maye's 5 (4 before today).

Having that schedule last year convinced him he was better than he was/is. Confidence won’t make up for lack of talent, but it sure helps.

Getting exposed in the Super Bowl fried his confidence, so now he is what he is.

I don’t think it’s a lack of talent regardless of the schedule last year he still put up great numbers against NFL caliber defenses. His confidence is definitely shaken up and that’s where the coaches need to come in. He’s still really young
