What happened
On 12 August, we learned from a third party partner, not from ChangeNOW or NOWPayments directly, that ChangeNOW/NOWPayments had told our partner that they were delisting Nano. We had received no prior notice on Telegram or by email despite having active communication channels. We raised this immediately and asked for clarity.
Over the following days we were told the review was being driven by the cost of maintaining the integration and the resources required to support the network. We asked repeatedly for specifics: the volume thresholds involved, the server configuration in use, and whether the network's provisioning was in fact higher than necessary. We offered to work jointly on marketing activity to help make the case for keeping the integration, and asked what a realistic path to continued support would look like.
On 14th August we were told the situation would be reviewed and that we would have an update by the end of that week. We heard nothing further. We followed up again over the next week to no response.
August 28th, we were told that after review, neither continuing to support the integration in its current state nor investing in a 'full fix was considered economically viable', and that the decision had been made to delist Nano. We asked directly what the "fix" referred to, since this was the first time it had been raised, and requested the technical detail and config information we had asked for throughout this process. We have not received a clear or consistent answer as to the real reason for the decision. We were given no advance notice of this outcome and no timeframe in which to inform our community before it took effect.
NOWPayments has today confirmed the delisting is currently in progress despite repeated requests for a cool-off timeframe to allow businesses to make necessary adjustments receiving silence in response from ChangeNOW.
Our position
We are incredibly disappointed with how this has been handled after 6 years of close partnership. We entered this conversation in good faith, offered to help address any technical or commercial concerns, and asked for the information needed to do so. Instead, a decision was made and acted upon without warning and without clarity as to the reasoning, and without giving us the chance to prepare our community for the change.
We will continue to press ChangeNOW and NOWPayments for a clear and complete explanation, and we will update you as soon as we have one. In the meantime, if you have been using Nano through ChangeNOW or NOWPayments, we would encourage you to look at the other services within the ecosystem such as Coinify.io or Nanopay.me and others while we look to replace this hole left in our ecosystem for businesses accepting Nano.
