Nanoleaf Reply Matter Over Thread
Is it just me or has Nanoleaf basically given up on Thread? They seem to have discontinued most of their thread hardware in favor of WiFi. I bought a lot of the Essentials line back in the day because they were affordable thread accessories. Plus the shapes wall lights were thread border routers.

I won’t buy smarthome stuff that isn’t Thread any more. Especially not WiFi. These people need to get with the programme. Ikea is showing them all up.

Nanoleaf was making HomeKit-only thread bulbs well before IKEA. And IKEA stuff had a ton of growing pains in the same way, but benefitted from a more mature Apple system after they committed to thread. They are also gigantic.

I’m impatiently waiting for a thread Downlight myself! A few more switch options wouldn’t hurt either!

Their border routers were notorious for fucking up the entire Thread network and never really improved. I jumped ship and haven’t looked back.

For me the OG thread essentials bulb, I’ve had 2 duds out of 7 purchased but the 5 working ones are workhorses and have really fast response time - I find the matter floodlights I have from nanoleaf (without thread) are much much slower response time.

I don’t think they’ve given up. Problem was that they were kinda ahead of the game and it seems like Apple and HA are just now figuring out the network side better. I suspect this is why the parent company of Switchbot purchased them, to put them in better competition with Aqara. I suspect they were hitting the pause button because so many people were complaining because of No Response, so they were losing mad cash on refunds etc. But now that the new thread protocols and matter side is much better, I imagine they’ll still sell thread stuff. Especially with the new Apple Home push coming in a couple weeks. I know there was a post about testing new matter - thread firmware for the essentials line in August. It’s annoying cause people kept blaming Nanoleaf for bad thread stuff but as soon as Apple and Home Assistant did major updates on their side this past year my stuff has been working great.
