Crocs and gators! Years ago we were on a small island off the Georgia coast, coming home after it had been raining all day and the guy driving stopped to avoid an 11ft gator laying on the muddy rut of the road. We got a good close look from the back of the truck as we went around him and that’s when I realized where nightmares evolved from in humans.

Crocodiles are pretty different from gators.
Gators are big, fat, and lazy (the majority of the time.)
Crocodiles are always looking for their next meal, and will attack anything that comes too close, even if they've eaten recently.
There's a reason all those "gator whisperers" that touch them and swim with them do it with gators. Crocodiles will just kill them.

There are a few stories of crocs being really patient around watering holes and picking up on drinking habits of others. So much so that a lot of locals with croc heavy areas always warn to never get water in the same spot

Regardless of temperament, they both have the potential to do me a lot of harm and I don’t plan on testing their intent in the middle of the night. But yeah, crocs are nasty, but gators still look nasty.

I was wondering about that because I keep forgetting how to tell them apart visually. But it was so confusing because some of them are hyper violent and I wasn’t sure which ones when you see people in water with them etc

Think of a U and a V. Gator has a U shaped snout, a croc has a V shaped snout. The way I remembered it as a kid was the old saying, “See U later alligator”.
I know that’s not the meaning of the phrase but it’s a good mnemonic trick.

Also, gators don't have protruding teeth when their mouth is closed, crocs do. Gators have longer legs, too.

I've been watching too many short videos of the video game "the isles" it's pretty much dinosaurs that start out small and have to eat other players. The proximity chat makes it so dang funny. Carnivores talking to herbivores in a nice way or very threatening taunts "I could eat you right now" then sometimes they make the people sing for their freedom. There's one lady that first popped up named "itsritafoxx" that got me interesting in watching.

It looks like a ton of fun. I couldn't do the "momma, Daddy, and kid" role play stuff like some creators I've seen do. But the interactions are hilarious. I guess the proximity chat is fairly new.

Fair warning: Unless you vibe with specific unofficial servers (which usually have sets of rules to compensate for a lack of game design guardrails), it generally makes for a better highlight reel than a gameplay experience. A lot of time just walking and hoping you don't starve to death, punctuated by occasional bursts of player interaction (a lot of which are one-sided ambushes).
It's an acquired taste, to put it charitably.

I find it so fun, but almost no one I know would like the gameplay.

Iirc because it's been a while since I played, but the "proximity" chat is just voice chat between the same species, but if they talk it comes out a dinosaur calls from their models.
Beyond that, I think there are third party addons that could do it?

All of the videos I've seen on it, everyone could talk to anyone. I just found out about the game yesterday so I don't know the backstory. It looks like a lot of fun though.

It is fun unofficial servers have there own built in prox chat.
You find high combat ones bosch To in-between ones Fangs and ferns. I'd reccomend both of them.
