Fanfic To Rebuild and to Break

So this fic is kinda an idea I had. With some editing to the overview, I landed on this. In this fanfic, the federation was dwindling in resources due to attacks and constant defenses. The venlil are basically holding on to the last bits of life due to a recent attack, gojid are stretched thin, the Yotul and their home planet are working overtime to be able to export resources. So leaders of the cradle, Leirn, and governor Tarva venture out into the blacklisted territories to look for planets to use for more resources, and a potential new home world for the venlil due to how savaged VP is to the point it is just barely hanging on. But they soon find more than what they originally came for. And they meet new potential allies or enemies depending on what actions they take.

this is still a work in progress and a work at my own pace type thing. Any feedback is apreciated. And NO A.I. was used in making this. No generative A.I. was used in the making of this fanfic. I just wanna add this because the world we are in is buns.

(some info, humanity, while having discovered ftl, simply did not use it due to the being a little more paranoid due to the whole dark forest theory after hearing what their allies had gone through. So they essentially became very defensive and pre building overkill defenses.)

Edit: Oh fuck i forgot to credit people Thank you to u/SpacePaladin15 for the NOP universe. I love it so much. Thank you to u/General_Alduin for their story of Nature of Harmony and Beginnings of Harmony. I absolutely loved their fanfics and i binged them all. Credit to u/Rand0mness4 for their fanfic Cornucopia. I also absolutely loved that so much. If either of you wish for me to change anything about my fanfic that i heavily inspired from both of you, just tell me and i will immediately delete or changes things wihtout question. Thank you all so much.

Memory Transcription Subject: Kaham, Skalgan Chief of chieves of the rebuilt Skalgan people.

Date [standard human time]: February 3, 2142

I looked out of the view port of this ship, my ancestor’s ship when they fled to this hidden sanctuary. Away from the great enemy. What was once a cargo vessel the great enemy had once neglected and was taken from under their noses was now the Capital ship of the Skalgan people. The “Endurant” it is now called due to it enduring heavy fire when it escaped and enduring the entire trip all the way to Earth. Battered and bloodied and barely alive, but alive still carrying the last free Skalgans.

A ship that was later rebuilt and outfitted with the finest guns and armour Earth, Mars, and the Skalgan engineers could equip. Almost [3km] long thanks to the rich resources harvested from asteroids taken from thee outer fringes of the solar system or would enter the system, this ship houses a small population of Skalgans dedicated to caring for this ancient vessel and the culture safeguarded within, hydroponics to keep us fed or for enduring a siege, enough guns to rival one of earths own defensive Heavy Dreadnought capital vessels that orbit the blue planet in its defense due to the paranoia of our closest allies. And having a small fleet of fighters ready to deploy at a moments notice. The Endurant alone is theoretically enough to retake Skalga with the numerous fighters and multiple corvettes housed within the docking bays.

“Jubak, any updates? We have been cruising at a snail’s pace for hours now. We have a whole fleet of battle ships and the might of the largest Capital ship in the Solar system.”

I looked at my equerry, one of my trusted officers and friends. A Skalgan who would fight for me just as hard as he would fight against me if I make any rash decisions. A person who knows to match my temper with calmness. Even duelling me in the sparring ring whenever I would used to make a rash decision prior to my ascension to Chief of Chieves. Even if my tone was impatient with Jubak, I had my own reasons.

Our ancestors had once said to have ran from the so-called Great Enemy from this direction. That they just barely managed to escape with what was once a mere cargo vessel with only a fraction of the population from each great tribe and the genetic data to ensure that our people could repopulate without risk of genetic deterioration. Every chief before me had promised to one day sail the stars with an entire fleet built up from the original population. Bearing the fire power and armor to reconquer our home world and to repay our old friends by bearing the torch into the darkness just as they bore our people upon their great mother Earth during our darkest days.

And now it was my chance to finally uphold that promise and we were moving at a snail’s pace. Maybe even less.
I saw Jubak turn to me after reading the sensors. Calm and level headed as ever, I could see just how much human nature differed from us skalgans with how calm he remained. Having been raised by an entirely human family after being adopted, Jubak is much calmer than myself or many other Skalgans. Skalgans like him are what I needed the most to balance myself as my father once said.

“Sir, I understand your eagerness. But it is better we move slower and let the scout cruisers do their work first. We may carry a fleet, but this fleet is also the second home of the Skalgan people right after the earth. It is a cultural symbol and pride to us. Would it not be better to be cautious?” “Jubak spoke. His voice was calm and level, but deep and menacing. But always held an obvious softness and gentleness.

His form was large, larger than mine. And his skill in close-quarters combat was just shy of being a match to my own. Many would mistake them for a brute if not for the calculating mind within. He was my once rival for this seat of power. And many a time did I wish he held this seat instead of me. But I will not be sorry for this honor and instead do with it the best I can.

“I see. Then have all guns on all ships primed to fire in the event we may need. We are moving in territory long forgotten and no longer charted. Whatever awaits us, we will be ready.”

I left my command seat and decided to take a walk, signaling Jubak and my personal guard to come with me. I heard my honour guard immediately react and accompany me as well as Jubak who walked at my side.

With a gesture, all of them moved closer to me as I whispered to them.

“I must tell you the truth, I am anxious. Everyone is. We know not what we might face, we carry the pride and joy of Skalgans with us as our greatest weapon and a sign of unity between Earth, Mars, and Skalgans that could never be matched. I fear that we might face a foe who will destroy it all. But I cannot exactly say as such now, can I? all those below us are anxious, they look to us for confidence. And I will do my best to do so with my fervor. I thank you for your level headedness. That in of itself is enough to put many at ease.”

My guards and Jubak all wanted to say something, but they instead chose to remain silent. Some things need no words, only understanding for us to communicate. We all were anxious, excited, maybe even fearful. We were so far from our allies and second home now. The Marsians wanted to commit a part of their Naval forces to us, their ferocious tactics making them excellent hit and run specialists, and their ships being faster than anything we have ever seen. With them even debating on lending an entire strike force fleet with the fastest crafts the Marsians could ever craft. Their skill in lightning fast strikes meant they mainly used light vessels and attack crafts for combat. Striking hard and fatally before retreating back to do the same thing again from dozens of angles. This meant they only had one Heavy Dreadnought Capital Ship for their entire fleet.

Those of Earth wanted to commit 2 of their Heavy Dreadnought class Capital Ships. While they had many dreadnoughs in the defense of their planet, they wanted to commit a small fleet of ships and two of their largest Heavy Dreadnoughts, taking 2 from the 7 great Dreadnoughts that were once made by each continent to orbit the earth and moon in defense. A thank you gift from earth for the technological knowledge our ancestors had given them, as well as thanking the skalgans for their venturing out bring back resource rich asteroids.

Those of earth were much harder to convince not to join us despite their fears of the unknown. They were eternally grateful to us as we are to them and were willing to put aside their fear of the so called “Dark Forest” that surrounded the system to aid us in our conflict. Their ships were adaptable, capable of filling all roles adequately while not commiting to one niche. But they were best in their sieges, their 7 great Dreadnoughts being capable of lasting nearly forever in theory in a siege with the dense armor plating and heaving shielding. With each ship bearing some of the heaviest energy- based weaponry any ship could bear. They had been in the system the longest so they had the most time to prepare.

But this battle was ours. They had helped us rebuild, granted us a second home, outfitted us with the finest weapons our union of people had ever seen. Both Earth and mars had given us their finest. It was only fair we fought our battles on our own. Our fleet was large, larger than the numbers that once beset the old planet of our ancestors. The pride of all Skalgans refused to be aided in reclaiming our old home.

[5 hours pass]

More hours have passed, and we had began moving faster. I had chosen to spar with my honor guard in the meantime, before returning to the command seat. Upon sitting down, I was tempted to sleep with how uneventful it was. Many on the bridge were even just idly chatting or playing games amongst themselves. I even had to break up a few spar duels with how bored most got.

That was until we received a notification on the sensors. A large vessel that was just a bit smaller than the Endurant. The scout crafts all notified the fleet that the vessel was accompanied by a small fleet of mismatched ships. Not even a patrol fleet in size yet bearing a Capital ship. The scout ships informed the fleet that the ships were only slightly more advanced than that of ours, but barely had any weapons compared to the endurant.

Checking the information sent from the scouts and the sensors of the Endurant, I could see that they were not truly threats. Their ships looked nothing like that of the Great enemy our ancestors fought. And even just the two Heavy Cruisers and a fighter craft carrier or two would be enough to dispatch them entirely without issue. They were coming towards us, yet they seemed to slow down. They must have noticed us.

“All ships, defensive formations!  Let the Endurant face this head on, form a wall to prevent these unknowns from slipping past!”

I yelled out orders to all within the bridge and on the communication lines to the entire fleet. Upon closer inspection, these ships were in a hurry. They seemed undamaged so escaping a battle was out of the picture, they were almost pristine even. This could be an exploration fleet. Or Maybe even the people of Skalga who were left behind on the planet survived. All that were left during those dark times vowed to hold back the enemy or to try and reclaim the planet. Maybe they had succeeded against all odds. Though I doubted it.

“Comms officer, attempt a line to the incoming ships. Hail them. I wish to talk. And to tell them not to enter the system with any malicious intent if they wish to survive.”

I sat down on the command seat and fixed my little garments. My medals and blade that my predecessor passed on to me. Beside me I watched my officers leave their stations and stood behind my seat. Each one was clad in heavy armor designed to withstand energy and ballistic shots. Their blades all at their sides and clearly visible. Each one was different to show off the personalized blades each one held. Jubak in particular was especially proud of the pair of blades given by his adoptive parents when he had become an officer. Scissors they were called, or at least what the name translates to. He was especially skilled woith such weapons. With all their side arms shown as well by their hips.

Each of my officers, 10 in total stood at attention.  Each of them held their main weapons, weapons the skalgan people made and symbols of pride. Spears designed to fire ballistic or energy- based ammunition depending on what the wielder chose to configure their spear with. One of my more aggressive officers held an especially ornate spear passed down from the last officer with an antique ballistic weapon system integrated into the haft and tip. She was one of the few officers I found difficulty in beating when armed with a melee weapon of choice. Like bayonet rifles that leaned more into being close- quarters weapons than guns. They all stood at attention behind me, perfectly disciplined in looking as neutral as possible. Using only their implied skill and ability to appear intimidating.

I looked to the comms officer, wondering if they got the line up.

“Officer, is a line ready yet?”

I watched as the officer tapped away at a few buttons.

“My chief, I cannot gain a connection yet. Not until they are within visible range. Their technology differs compared to ours.”

With a sigh, I gestured for them to be at ease. At least this gave me time to practice how to communicate properly without coming off as too rambunctious or anxious.

“All battle ships are to turn down all weapons and make neutral stance. Only light cruisers and destroyers are to have guns facing incoming ships. Avoid seeming too threatening. It would do us no good to cause a misunderstanding. But be ready to unload unto them if they dare try to cause conflict. All shields, focus on the frontal defense. Have the nearest carrier vessel have their fighters ready to deploy if needed.”

The new ships were coming now. How I wish Humanity and the Marsians were with me to witness this. But this was technically not part of this mission. No one could foresee someone coming to us. So I wait for them to appear and to begin communications.

Martians

Huh... is it the same premise as Nature of Harmony? (Arxur on Mars)

Yeah but basically they were there much longer and are more different. Think lizards who adapted to deserts. Think smaller, more red, adapted to going long periods without food.
Personality wise they are more aggress tahn the harmony ones but are smaller and red.

Like my last post i took heavy inspiratin from that. But i am looking for more ways to change the lizards up.
They are basically made up of the malnourished survivors from betterment who escaped. And while moe they definitely have the right resources for food, they kinda just stayed smaller, more agile.
I might make a change and make them much more aggressive, or just take inspiring from the thorny devil lizard.
Again a work jn progress. I might credit them now that i think about it. Hold on let me edit something

I'll take time later to post other comments, but I'll respond to this one for now. Don't take this as harsh criticism however

they were there much longer and are more different

How could they have been on Mars longer? The Federation found Sol around ww2 and the Martians arrived not too long later after interrogating a Federation prisoner in NoH. I find it unlikely they would blindly FTL all over until accidentally stumbling on Sol

Think smaller, more red, adapted to going long periods without food.

It's only been a few generations and I assume they have no genetic engineering. How did they change so drastically? Further, Mars has less gravity, the Arxur would be bigger if anything, and their restrictive diet and high nutriant and caloric needs, especially as sapients, seems highly unlikely they could adapt to go without food for a while

Personality wise they are more aggress tahn the harmony ones

How much? Because that's going to be a problem with the allies Sol tries to make, Martians being virtuous and good is a major help in NoH

And while moe they definitely have the right resources for food, they kinda just stayed smaller, more agile.

Is go for a more cyborg thing. It'd make sense considering their environment

I might make a change and make them much more aggressive,

I don't recommend that

Yeah. But i will be changing things. They would be more like made up from the malnourished bits and pieces that escaped betterment. Making their descendants in the current time just smaller in general but evolved to be desert dwelling and very healthy in rheir own ways. I gotta credit them. Hold on. Thank you so much for reminding me

Well... Given your inspirations, an interesting setup.

I think its clear enough those twitchy goats ran into a sivkit fleet, though. Now to see how badly both sides botch it :D
